If the app pinged you now, would you isolate?

Just wondering how people are responding at this stage given the changes they want to make to the app (things like sensitivity and NHS/double jabbed status).

I got pinged in Thursday, having attended a large sporting event on Sunday. I was silly not to have disabled it before going. I'm double vaxxed and not isolating.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 10/07/2021 16:30

Nope, because the app is not fit for purpose, I wouldn’t take a random ping very seriously. There’ve been cases of being pinged because of a neighbour in flats that you’ve probably not had contact with at all. And I don’t get paid to isolate. So absolutely not on the say so of that shit app. But I’ve never had the contact tracing on anyway.

kkneat · 10/07/2021 16:35

My son has covid, he is young (13) and very ill. Of course household isolating currently and have isolated several times in the past few months from being close contacts. I am doubled jabbed but would never want to run the risk of passing on anything and have had several negative tests. I also do a job that is very difficult to work from home but it is what it is. I also use the app haven’t been pinged through walls though when my neighbours tested positive. I know several people who won’t wear masks including ones without reason not to and people that don’t self-isolate selfish. Of course we need to find a way to live with it but as the cases are increasing I will isolate whenever asked to, continue to social distance and wear a mask.

SpringRainbow · 10/07/2021 16:36

The app is not fit for purpose so I deleted it. I will not be reinstalling it unless I actually have to. It is useless.

If any of us got contacted by test and trace or we were notified by either the childminder or school then yes, we would isolate if we were required to.

Crowtooyo · 10/07/2021 16:49

100% of course I would. What's the point in having it if you aren't going to isolate when it tells you to. The attitude on here is sad and it's no wonder it is spreading.

StormcloakNord · 10/07/2021 16:52

Nope. Deleted the app. Even if I did get pinged I wouldn't be isolating.

HelloMissus · 10/07/2021 16:53

If I was contacted and told that a proper close contact had tested positive then yes.
Pinged without any information? No.
But it’s advisory anyway.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 10/07/2021 16:55

I take it all those who would isolate on account of an app notification get paid to do so?

needabreak5 · 10/07/2021 17:00

Nope. I got pinged about a month ago. At that point I just deleted the app and didn't reinstall it!

I had worked out that the only way the it had close contact 15 mins with non-immediate family was when my phone was left in a public locker with lots of other lockers nearby.

ButteringMyArse · 10/07/2021 17:04

I'd be extremely surprised if it pinged, having never downloaded it, but no I wouldn't. Because it's an unreliable white elephant. The people moralising evidently don't understand how shit it is.

RumHoney · 10/07/2021 17:04

It would depend on what I did on the contact date. I recently got pinged on a day I knew I hadn't been inside anywhere other than with family (and I'd have known if it was them!) So I didn't but did try to limit my activities. If it had said it was the day before when I ate inside a pub then I probably would have done. I'm double jabbed.

Souther · 10/07/2021 17:06

Nope. But then I don't have the app

PandemicPalava · 10/07/2021 17:12

I don't know why everyone is having a go at @Mummasdiary2021 when this will actually be the rule in a week won't it? Can you blame anyone for not following it now?

TheSweetLady · 10/07/2021 17:23

I’m isolating now after being pinged on Sunday. I can work from home though and my work wants us to follow it. I’m a home body and staying in for a week doesn’t bother me at all.

The rest of the household doesn’t have to isolate so DC have gone to school as normal and DH has done the school runs.

I can understand people not doing it if they don’t get paid from work.

Topseyt · 10/07/2021 17:32

I have deleted the ridiculous app, so I won't be getting pinged anytime soon.

I'm double jabbed and I don't like going to large social gatherings. If I had a direct call from test and trace (unlikely, and I'm not sure how they would get my number) then I suppose I would isolate, or if I developed symptoms and had a positive test myself. Otherwise no, I wouldn't isolate.

PandemicPalava · 10/07/2021 17:32

Exactly @TheSweetLady the support is not there. The £500 payment only applies to people on benefits so if you are working without benefits but month to month, you get nothing. Self employed get nothing short term unless they've applied for assistance which doesn't apply to everyone. I don't blame anyone at all for not isolating

Pinchoftums · 10/07/2021 17:34

@Mummasdiary2021 my bf had exactly the same scenarios. Child sent home last Friday as teacher had covid, they all did PCR tests Tuesday, her kid positive, them all negative, now the whole family is positive. Can take a few days hence the need to isolate.

PotteringAlong · 10/07/2021 17:35

Or @Oysterbabe you were silly to go to a large sporting event in the middle of a pandemic and not be prepared to accept the consequences…

Seesawmummadaw · 10/07/2021 17:36

Yes I would.

Trillogy101 · 10/07/2021 17:47

Can't believe how many selfish *** there are on here to be honest. Despicable.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 10/07/2021 17:53

You offering to pay peoples bills? If not, stick your selfish crap where the sun doesn't shine.
Viviennemary · 10/07/2021 17:55

No. I don't have the app. And I read it isn't a legal requirement to isolate. So can't see the point myself.

wasthataburp · 10/07/2021 17:56

Nope. Never had the app. Don't know anyone who has ever had the app actually

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/07/2021 17:57

No because the app is not reliable enough to say "you are a close contact".

If I was told I was a close contact (from T&T or a person I had spent time with) then yes I would isolate.

Cherrysherbet · 10/07/2021 17:58

I haven’t got the app, and don’t intend too.

It’s not accurate at all. So many people where I work are getting pinged and none have had positive tests.

I can’t afford to take time off, and my husband can’t either (he’s self employed).

If I knew I’d been in close contact with someone with Covid, or if I had someone that was positive in my household then I would isolate.

I would not isolate for some stupid app.
