Sorry, I know there’ve been countless threads discussing this sort of thing. But so far all I can find are people arguing about masks and smoking ...

What is our government doing? What are they up to? I’ve just seen a tweet with a German news report that says the UK is conducting a mass Covid experiment.

Is our government trying to crash the NHS in order to dismantle it?

What are they up to?

@Maybeitsme5

Those who want masks and restricrions to continue.. How long for?

Covid isn't going anywhere irrespective of the vaccine programs success.

Mutations will continue to happen irrespective of what measures we take, as the past year has shown us.

Should we live with restrictions and wear masks indefinitely?

It's always 'just until..' the care homes are done, groups 1-9 are done, over 50's get the second dose, all adults get the 1st dose, all over 12's get the 1st dose and on and on then it will be a round of boosters, other countries aren't vaxxed..
SonnetForSpring · 08/07/2021 22:34

I have absolutely no idea what they are doing! They claimed it was to bring the peak of the wave forward to happen now rather than in winter. But I don't believe a word anymore. All I know is lots of people are at risk of serious illness and the government are not being honest about it. They treat us all like we are fucking stupid.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/07/2021 22:36

@Beebityboo

If you can get it more than once then surely they can't achieve herd immunity regardless of what they do?
Getting it more than once seems to be quite rare.
joystir59 · 08/07/2021 22:36

NHS is going to be brought deliberately to its knees.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 08/07/2021 22:36

Is it full moon?

Why all the howling?

SonnetForSpring · 08/07/2021 22:36

I really think they are just bluffing cos that's what they think people want to hear. They are really ramping up the negative media....so once again...they are waiting for the public to ask them.

joystir59 · 08/07/2021 22:37

The last elephant of socialism.

SonnetForSpring · 08/07/2021 22:37

There will be a u turn.

joystir59 · 08/07/2021 22:37

I'm a socialist, just to clarify

Gwenhwyfar · 08/07/2021 22:37

@TheMawisbraw

It’s not the uk though just England, I’m in Scotland and thankfully masks and social distancing is here to stay even when we move to level 0
English people travelling into Wales will probably either not know that Wales has different rules of behave as if the rules were the same anyway. There has been plenty of that throughout the pandemic. Plus, a surge in cases in England will affect neighbouring countries so the whole of the UK is f**d anyway.
SonnetForSpring · 08/07/2021 22:38

I feel sorry for those who believed they would lift all restrictions. It's bollocks. Usual manipulation tactics.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/07/2021 22:39

"In London and other cities (England) we keep getting mobs not wearing masks or protesting about all limiting measures"

Those "mobs" are still a minority.

ElizaLynn · 08/07/2021 22:43

The recklessness of the government terrifies me. If they held off a couple of months and the majority of 18+ was double jabbed I would see some logic in a gradual easing.

Great timing to get Hancock out (albeit his fault) and the ex chancellor in who likely has no rapport with the CMO /CSO and gives zero cares about health and every care for the economy. They are no longer listening to the science.

They can't even afford to their pension promises so there may even be a warped self interest in these decisions and the impact it may have on the population.

Zero trust in the government and I have always voted Conservative I am sad to say.

Beebityboo · 08/07/2021 22:43

@SonnetForSpring

There will be a u turn.
I truly doubt it. Rishi is on the front page of the Tory graph tomorrow telling everyone to go back to the office.
Blueberry40 · 08/07/2021 22:44

It’s not an experiment though….the government know exactly what will happen, there has been modelling data presented to them by leading scientists.

That’s the scary thing, they know exactly what the cost is and they are still deciding to push forward with lifting every single restriction. They are choosing to put vulnerable people at risk. They are choosing to increase rates of long covid in perfectly healthy young people. They are choosing to put the NHS under so much pressure that it will crack.

Marianicka · 08/07/2021 22:44

@DownSideUpped

Tealightsandd That’s interesting. Do you have a link to figures showing numbers of hospitalisations and deaths in the US and their vaccination status? I’m following the figures closely in the U.K. but haven’t looked at the US yet.
USA don't have a majority of Delta cases yet though, like we do.
HeddaGarbled · 08/07/2021 22:46

Is our government trying to crash the NHS in order to dismantle it?

No.

User3253465621 · 08/07/2021 22:46

Didn't they do the same thing in a few states in the USA where masks were dropped entirely and restaurants were open during the time most countries were in full lockdown. Apparently the numbers didn't skyrocket as feared but maybe there were other variables at play such as population density etc.

UK is definitely taking a huge gamble and agree that it's akin to a real-time experiment. There probably won't be too many deaths due to reasonable vaccination protection and younger people infected however many will be sacrificed to long covid and lifelong health complications as a result.

The government is probably not stating the obvious which is that lockdowns were always to prevent ICU overload. They may realise that many many people will get ill but it's much easier to fob off chronically ill than those in acute respiratory failure. Many long-haulers will simply be told it's all in their head or sent away with a pamphlet just like people with ME/fibro/lyme disease have been for the past few decades.

Tealightsandd · 08/07/2021 22:46

Delta is now the dominant strain in the US.

Ra4940 · 08/07/2021 22:47

Do you think it’s a fear tactic to make us ‘want’ them to do a u-turn and put restrictions back in place? With the motive because they’re losing compliance and people are fed up but if this reignites the fear then we will be more willing to accept the restrictions.

It just doesn’t seem to make sense otherwise, all the news stories are negative about the removing restrictions and very fear inducing.

Tealightsandd · 08/07/2021 22:48

It's hitting the unvaccinated in America.

ProtectMaternity · 08/07/2021 22:49

All I know is that staff sickness absence in our maternity unit has shot up to nearly 20% this week, which is almost as high as it was back in January when things were at their worst for us.

It has just rocketed out of nowhere. Not just Covid but other bugs too, as more people are in closer contact.

Genuinely worried about what will happen in a couple of weeks.

SonnetForSpring · 08/07/2021 22:49

That's exactly what I'm beginning to think.
