Sorry, I know there’ve been countless threads discussing this sort of thing. But so far all I can find are people arguing about masks and smoking ...

What is our government doing? What are they up to? I’ve just seen a tweet with a German news report that says the UK is conducting a mass Covid experiment.

Is our government trying to crash the NHS in order to dismantle it?

What are they up to?

A doctor on BBC yesterday was saying that they are 33,000 cases of Long Covid in children in the UK and why is this being undereported?

The UK are probably not going to be vaccinating children and all containment measures will be abandoned on 19 July so this figure will be a lot higher and the virus will just keep circulating in children and possibly mutate.

tigger1001 · 10/07/2021 09:10

@Tzimi it may be starting to go down now but has been increasing for weeks. And is higher than England. Was increasing steadily from mid may.

Schools have been out here for 2 weeks - no doubt that will have an effect on the rates.

@PopcornMuncher

I didn't think Scotland had any areas that were at 900 cases per 100k
Certain areas of Dundee and Edinburgh are showing infection rates of between 900 to 1400 per 100k. Overall I think Dundee is sitting below 900 per 100k. But given in may dundee was less than 20 per 100k that's a huge rise.
Blessex · 10/07/2021 09:34

Haven’t the USA already done this? The Netherlands have - all mask wearing stopped and nightclubs open already. Where do we get the idea we are the first?

Toty · 10/07/2021 09:46

I didn't think Scotland had any areas that were at 900 cases per 100k

There were several areas sitting at around 1000/100000 last week, highest now is Dundee at around 850/100000 so dropping, prob because the schools are now closed and testing has reduced.

I don't know how many times this needs to be pointed out.

ENGLAND are removing all measures on 19th July, not the UK.

oh thats ok then!

Mrstreehouse · 10/07/2021 13:57

@Chris08 a quick google will tell you what’s in a covid vaccine and no, they are not ‘experimental’ until 2023? WTF! www.google.co.uk/amp/s/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSL1N2M70MW

Mrstreehouse · 10/07/2021 13:58

What’s in the vaccines… practio.co.uk/coronavirus/articles/coronavirus-vaccine-ingredients

crayray · 10/07/2021 14:14

@DownSideUpped

Vaccines.

90% of population vaccinated = herd immunity.

But vaccines aren’t giving immunity. They are potentially lessening severity but not stopping spread. I know of many teachers currently very unwell with covid yet double jabbed. Where’s the herd immunity if fully vaxxed are catching and presumably spreading?

How many is 'many' and what does 'very unwell' mean?

In the Netherlands masks must be worn on public transport and in secondary schools. Other building managers are free to decide that masks just be worn even if the law doesn't enforce it.

And nightclubs, festivals etc have just had new restrictions imposed yesterday as cases are rising in the youth population.

You think its embarrassing that the man or woman in the street can't read scientific data? I don't think that's embarrassing at all. I think its called normal

I would agree with you - what is embarrassing is that people think their opinions are valid despite not being able to read scientific data.

England is the first country to abandon all mitigation measures while cases are rising rapidly. There’s an interesting story about it in the Financial Times today.
Tealightsandd · 10/07/2021 21:26

We didn't take the same measures as the USA. Many states closed schools for up to a year, for example. (I'm not arguing for or against that, but it's important to note the differences). You must also have surely noticed all the photos of celebrities in America over the last year. They all wore masks outdoors. American guidelines were the like many European and East Asian countries. Masks in public (including outside).

We can't expect to be in the same position as other places now, when we didn't do the same as them before.

ahoyshipmates · 10/07/2021 22:09

@mathanxiety

Do you think deaths per thousand figures are contestable, *@ahoyshipmates*
Why would you think that?
MarshaBradyo · 10/07/2021 22:13

Why are people panicking?

It was delayed by four weeks and some people complained that wasn’t necessary now people are getting stressed

Haven’t rtft

mathanxiety · 11/07/2021 02:25

Getting rid of mandatory masks makes sense to me. People wear them under their nose, touch them constantly, wear the same one for days or weeks on end, keep them in their pockets. There is probably a cure for COVID to be found on some masks. They give a false sense of both superiority and safety. I can’t wait to bin mine.

Let's get rid of seatbelts and speed limits while we're at it.

mathanxiety · 11/07/2021 02:30

"The first two waves were truly terrible. We had ambulances queuing to come into the hospital, and endless trolleys carrying bodies into the morgue."

Which, maybe because it was suppressed, translates to the NHS coped. And can cope with 100,000 cases a day no problem.

@KOKOagainandagain
I would suggest that the bit about 'endless trolleys carrying bodies into the morgue' indicates that the NHS coped only in the sense that hospital buildings didn't fall down. 128,000 deaths means the exact opposite of what you are saying.

This, precisely. "My opinions are more valid than your/their facts and evidence."
Doodlebug71 · 11/07/2021 13:14

Reading my twitter feed briefly, because I do follow the scientists and the science. Sarah-Jane Marsh (CEO Birmingham Women and Children's Hospital) on the 9th July:

"Time to stand our Covid system response back up due to the numbers of patients in general and ITU beds across our city. No one has the physical or mental resilience for this wave but its here, and so we must find some inner strength to start again."

Those of you cheering on the ditching if masks and SD, as well as other measures..... on a website read by considerable numbers of people. Ouch. Displaying your ignorance like that in such a public way.
