Not that I or DS (17) have much of a choice. We live in central London, do not have a car and DS won't be vaccinated till next year.

What do you mean by ‘every other country’ @hellogem?

PurpleDaisies · 05/07/2021 09:26

I speak for myself and some.of my colleagues and friends and their children when they say the constant isolation has ruined their mental health.

What’s that got to do with wearing masks on the tube?

Wizzbangfizz · 05/07/2021 09:26

Yes and can't wait!

If you'd read who I quoted you would have seen what that had to do with it...

Poster said why on earth would we want to rid ourselves of masks because keeping away from people has been great for our health.

You didn't read that bit clearly

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 05/07/2021 09:27

Yes. I also live in London and don't drive. I have had both jabs (second v recently though). I am OK with it.

herethereandeverywhere · 05/07/2021 09:28

I was on the tube yesterday. Approx 25% of people weren't wearing a mask or had it on their chin or with their nose hanging out - so the difference won't be too dramatic anyway.

I'll continue to buy FFP3 masks and wear those, as will my kids. I'm more afraid of the inconvenience of isolating than the effects of the virus itself.

valnevavaxx · 05/07/2021 09:28

@CrouchEndTiger12 PP clearly meant social distancing with mask wearing, not isolation.

Iamanaubergine · 05/07/2021 09:30

Israel has a higher proportion of vaccinated people than us and they have reintroduced mask wearing indoors. I would wear a mask on public transport.

PurpleDaisies · 05/07/2021 09:30

@CrouchEndTiger12 that poster was obviously talking about the benefits of masks and social distancing, not self isolation.

idontlikealdi · 05/07/2021 09:30

It so bloody hot down there and coupled with my hay fever I can't wait to ditch the mask

vaxmeup · 05/07/2021 09:37

No, but I don't have to use the tube/public transport on a daily basis. I live with vulnerable people so will continue to be careful until cases come down.

nordica · 05/07/2021 09:41

I don't have a choice. But I wear FFP2 masks on public transport as they protect the wearer as well, and try to keep away from people for example by not sitting in the middle of a row of seats but staying near the doors. Getting my 2nd vaccine at the end of this week fortunately, just in time.

Comefromaway · 05/07/2021 09:41

Dd won't have a choice when she moves to London in a couple of weeks time. But she is double jabbed and currently covid positive. I suspect she will continue to wear a mask on the tube.

Dh travels on the train every day and we pay extra for FFP2 masks for him.

Housereno123 · 05/07/2021 09:43

I am dreading September and having to return to the office. I have no choice but to travel by train and tube. There is no way of socially distancing in rush hour :(

hamstersarse · 05/07/2021 09:44

Have you always been so concerned for your 17 year old getting the sniffles / flu / a fever / a cough? Is he CEV?

I don't know what you are now frightened of?

SmidgenofaPigeon · 05/07/2021 09:46

@Housereno123 out of interest when would you feel comfortable going back?

You’ve been lucky to be able to be at home. Well, I say lucky- I’m glad I’ve had to keep going in throughout, because it means I’m not scared or anxious now.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 05/07/2021 09:46

I have no choice. I’m vaccinated so I should be OK.

Having said that mask wearing wasn’t 100% even in the deepest lockdown times.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 05/07/2021 09:48

@MareofBeasttown

Yes I will wear a mask and so will DS, tho not at all sure if it is much use, but can't hurt.
Buy KN95 masks, they filter the air you're breathing in. Ordinary masks only protect other people.
Brian9600 · 05/07/2021 09:48

Who has a choice? It's not as if people get the tube for fun.

I'm looking forward to never wearing a mask again but we're not there yet and I'll keep mine on on the tube until we are.

Dd is 19. Currently 9 of her classmates have covid and several had it a few weeks ago. The ones who are not vaccinated yet are really, really poorly. Some who had it previously are still suffering and have been unable to go back to their normal physical activities.
PinkPlantCase · 05/07/2021 09:51

I know a lot of people who live in zones 1/2 who had taken up cycling to avoid the tube. Worth thinking about if your worried (and it saves money)

Wanttocry · 05/07/2021 09:51

Yes, I would. It wouldn’t even register with me as a concern.

Another Londoner. I don't have a car and haven't been on public transport once during the pandemic - I just cycle (Zone 3).

It's pleasanter in the summer than cramming onto a hot tube, it's a good way to get fit, and it seems to take about the same amount of time.

He is not but my husband is CV, over 50 and slightly overweight. Has been double vaxxed though.

oh and a year into the pandemic, I do not believe that Covid is like the flu.
