@Lucyk1

Will still wear mine. We will be in lock down again before we know it.
We won’t. The government is being completely explicit that once the covid restrictions finish, that’s it, no going back.

What a load of crystal balls.
LouH1981 · 02/07/2021 18:15

Yes, me too @Lucyk1

MumOfScience · 02/07/2021 18:15

Agreed! I’ll keep wearing mine and follow the science and at least until I’m two weeks after double vaccination. A face mask is FAR better than long covid or worse. Irresponsible.

mrshoho · 02/07/2021 18:19

Until the next unforseen spanner in the works appears..

Do you see the problem with explicit statements such as this when we are talking about an ongoing new virus that is still in it's early development. Yes it's all going brilliantly with vaccines but we are far from over it.

Bertiebiscuit · 02/07/2021 18:26

Don't care - am going to continue with a mask on public transport, possibly in crowded shops and anywhere else where there are lots of people - still don't want to get or spread Covid

ALongHardWinter · 02/07/2021 18:27

Good. Smile

Loverofoldfilms · 02/07/2021 18:29

@bluejelly

I'll carry on wearing mine in enclosed spaces. I think lots will
I will. Looking at Israel etc, and the latest rising cases, letting the virus run rampage will create a new vaccine defeating variant and we are back to square one. Who is advising the government? Madness but you all seem very happy so maybe it's the other European countries who are ticking differently.
Lucyk1 · 02/07/2021 18:31

The government has we were going into lock down for 3 weeks... That was last March and it lasted almost 4 months. We thought that was it.... Then there's was another lock down. We thought that was the last one and there he went again, not even 3 weeks later and we locked down just before Christmas. Don't believe a word he says.
He actually did say 'or unless another varient'. What happens if, like India, our hospitals become swamped and. Ant take any more due to no beds? What if our hospitals ran out of oxygen and people just started dying cause they can't get help due to another varient that our vaccines don't work with. Of course there could be another lock down!
I've had covid twice. Both the alpha and Kent version and both times I've landed in hospital not able to breath and now I'm stuck with long covid. I'm 6 months down the line after my positive result and waiting for my hospital appointment because my lings are damaged... Sick fed up of all the silly folk laughing and thinking it's the flu... Clearly not, only takes a scientist to show you the flu and covid are both completely different virus particles, and there's only so many 'symptoms' a body can have, hense why all illnesses are similar in symptoms and we do tests.
The way the people in the UK have acted, I hope we do end up in another lock down because it will serve them right. All that hard work for nothing

peppermintpat · 02/07/2021 18:33

@fat13

I’m worried shops and other places will insist on them anyway Sad
Yes, I think shops and others will keep this up for some time.
EleanorOlephantisjustfine · 02/07/2021 18:34

@PopcornMuncher

Happy for others to wear them. I won't be if I don't have to
Me neither 🎉
ILoveMagnums · 02/07/2021 18:45

I just had to wear a mask when I went to do my weekly shop. I unexpectedly sneezed twice into it. Wearing a mask that you have sneezed into is utterly disgusting. Masks are utterly pointless and just have you breathing back your own germs and ming. You don't let air recirculate in areas, it gets stale and it is bad for people. They have ventilated areas to work in, but here we are breathing in recycled air 1/2 inch from our faces.

A picture is worth a thousand words. It says it all on its own.

ilovesooty · 02/07/2021 18:50

@Mickarooni

Do people really care that much what other people do or don’t do?! I don’t look at non mask wearers and think anything, it wouldn’t cross my mind to wonder why. Equally, if people want to wear masks when it’s not mandatory then that’s their choice. Neither hurts me because I’ll continue to socially distance. I hate people in my personal space anyway, so as long as they’re not breathing down my neck (mask or no mask!) I don’t care what others do.
Exactly.

It's totally unnecessary to make remarks about the moral high ground as @sadperson16 did.

Blossomtoes · 02/07/2021 18:51

Epidemiologists. But apparently Trevor from accounts knows better. 🤷‍♀️

Nearly47 · 02/07/2021 18:52

I also keep wearing mine in enclosed spaces. The vaccine is not 100% effective.
Andrew Marr was talking about his experience ofcatching covid even after being fully vaccinated. I think wearing a mask is not a big sacrifice if it will help avoid a lockdown in winter. The number of hospitalizations is already going up. Confused

This is why masks need to become discretionary NOW. Clearly rich people think its OK, so the others should follow suit.

Birminghambloke · 02/07/2021 18:55

I cannot wait. To be able to smile. To interact fully again. To not have to repeat orders three times. To not have a steamed face.
I will not wear one once clubs are open. If can go to a club and do all sorts, then I can walk though an empty supermarket at 7 a.m.

MercyBooth · 02/07/2021 18:56

@ILoveMagnums And a great breeding ground for impetigo The bacteria that causes that lives in the nose and having to walk around with that all over your face increases the likelihood of developing that skin condition.

There is a reason we didnt wear our sneezy snot all over or faces pre Covid. I dont NOW but there are plenty on here working hard to try and make us believe they do.

And IF they do id fucking love to be a fly on the wall of a parent trying to un learn to their child that this isnt normal. After convincing their child for over a year that wearing their snot all over their face is normal.

TheVampiresWife · 02/07/2021 18:58

@peppermintpat they won't because they can't. The can't enforce mask wearing now, when it's mandatory, so they certainly won't be able to when it's not.

MercyBooth · 02/07/2021 18:58

"Is the NHS on the verge of collapse" The newsreader on an episode of 1970s sitcom Man About The House.

On ITV3 earlier today.

"They can't enforce mask wearing now, when it's mandatory, so they certainly won't be able to when it's not."

I keep reading this, but I see practically no evidence of people not wearing them in my town.

If someone is exempt they can't be challenged - I've never had any comment or second glance from retail/transport/hospitality staff (I do wear a lanyard though). In fact I've sensed a lot of them go out of their way to make me feel at ease, which is very much appreciated.
Stilltalkstotrees · 02/07/2021 19:04

Why would you wear a dirty 'snotty' mask? I don't - I make sure mine are clean. If they cause an individual to develop impetigo it is reasonable for that individual to be exempt.

Someone was asking for examples of studies - here's a very recent one - speaks volumes. www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7027e1.htm
