Anti-lockdowners pretending to care about kids again

noblegiraffe · 29/06/2021 17:11

So it's all over the news about how nearly 400,000 kids are having to isolate because of covid cases in schools. Complaints about how disruptive to education it is and to the mental health of the children involved. This disruptive isolation must end as soon as possible.

Contrast to last November when nearly a million kids were self-isolating in a week. Do you remember the headlines, discussions and outrage about that?

No, of course you don't. Because back then, the solution to so many kids isolating was to put more mitigation measures in schools and attempt to stop so many kids catching it.

Now they can argue that it doesn't matter if all kids catch it, they're all over the 'terrible' isolation figures which are less than half of those last year.

I'm SO done with people only caring about kids and education when they think that they can use them for their own benefit.

If these loud voices could be used to talk about things like the cuts to pupil premium, the pitiful covid catch-up funding, the critical shortage of teachers, the unsafe state of schools, the massive waiting lists for CAMHS and SEN services, then maybe I'd believe them when they claim to care about children.

"So not really ‘go her’, people can’t even be arsed to engage with her anymore."

Grin Grin this thread is on the way to being another 1000 posts one but, yes, absolutely people can't be arsed to engage with noble anymore.

Says the person posting all over noble's thread about, em, noble.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 11:45

Indeed, I don’t know how people think obsessively posting about me gives me anything other than a big head.

OP posts:
Delatron · 04/07/2021 11:46

I’m engaging because I disagree with her. I’m sure many gave up on thread number 55 a month ago.

But at least she’s moved on from personal (deleted) attacks and is just collectively calling us all bellends! Love it.

christinarossetti19 · 04/07/2021 11:49

Delatron, Oooh, do you want to analyse my reasons for agreeing with noble's stance on safer schools meaning that they're likely to be closed less?

I'm not vulnerable, double jabbed and not a teacher. I do have two children in secondary schools who have been 'covid lucky' ie only one isolation between them right at the very end of the winter term.

Yet... I still think permitting the virus to spread in schools hence the community was and is dangerous and could and should be mitigated against.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 11:50

I said bellends who leap on anyone who agrees with me, talking about posters who have put off people who agree with me from posting on threads, Delatron. Are you identifying yourself into that group?

OP posts:
BustopherPonsonbyJones · 04/07/2021 11:53

@Mistressiggi

While not wishing to hurt Noble's feelings in any way, if she posted shit I didn't agree with I would not post to say I agreed with her. I am not automatically friends with everyone on here who says they are a teacher. Why would I be? You become friendly with people you think talk sense. Plenty of teachers on here I wouldn't give the time of day to.

Handy way to dismiss anyone who agrees with the views posted though - "well you would say that, you're her friend" Grin

Agreed. Personal attacks are lazy thinking. I enjoy reading good arguments and have changed my stance following some posts on Mumsnet - there was a poster who wrote eloquently about conditions in factories who made me reconsider some of my views during lockdown! The comments about noble are too personal and offer nothing to a debate.

Personal attacks you say? I've just read the whole thread and you, @Delatron are repeatedly attacking @noblegiraffe, making things up that she hasn't said and even making unfounded assertions about her mental health (that's low).
herecomesthsun · 04/07/2021 11:55

@Delatron

You’ve said yourself *@herecomesthsun* that you are vulnerable? And don’t go out to restaurants. So yes I can see why you agree with the OP.

However many on here don’t. And I don’t think her posting style helps her case at all. Personal opinion but I’m not the only one that has said this.

"You’ve said yourself @herecomesthsun that you are vulnerable? And don’t go out to restaurants. So yes I can see why you agree with the OP."

that, you see, is an ad hominem (or ad feminam) argument

Whereas I would say, look at noble's graphs and listen to her arguments.

Delatron · 04/07/2021 11:56

@Myothercarisalsoshit give it a rest. Personal attacks are quite rightly deleted on here. There’s a few from the OP that have been. Mine haven’t. A few of us merely questioned whether this was good for the OP’s health. Actual genuine concern. Which we were told was ‘faux concern’

I haven’t once sworn or name called. Maybe go back and reread the thread and count the swear words and deleted posts from the OP?

herecomesthsun · 04/07/2021 11:58

Or maybe we could talk about the actual issues around the lack of mitigations in schools?

Delatron · 04/07/2021 11:59

@christinarossetti19 define ‘safer schools’ I don’t feel school has ever been ‘unsafe’ for my children.

They’ll be closed less when thankfully we do away with all mitigations very soon. Can’t wait.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 11:59

@herecomesthsun

Or maybe we could talk about the actual issues around the lack of mitigations in schools?
And the dubiously funded political campaign groups who campaigned against them.

And the consequences of them doing so.

You don't have to swear to attempt to bully someone.
@noblegiraffe does well to mostly keep her cool in light of all the personal attacks on her for merely posting the truth. Yuo keep saying yourself about 'people seeing the OP and yada yada yada'... it appears to have a very different effect on you in that you immediately weigh in and try to instigate a pile on by making shit up. Shame on you.

Delatron · 04/07/2021 12:01

@herecomesthsun we can discuss yes. I’ll be happy never to hear the word ‘mitigations’ ever again.

As most were completely pointless and damaging to children.

RubyFowler · 04/07/2021 12:01

Do you think you have good powers of persuasion Noble?

I'm sure there are many people on here who do agree with you and your views.
I also think there's a lot of truth in what you post.
There are a lot of posters on mumsnet who you could have brought round to your way of thinking given how many of us have children in schools.

Delatron · 04/07/2021 12:02

@Myothercarisalsoshit could you please quote the post where I ‘make shit up’

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 12:07

Why are you assuming I didn't?

I do me, Ruby, why don't you do you?

ChloeDecker · 04/07/2021 12:08

In your opinion.

ChloeDecker · 04/07/2021 12:11

define ‘safer schools’ I don’t feel school has ever been ‘unsafe’ for my children.

You keep saying this but when Boris repeatedly over many months on TV and in the papers, it causes parents and the general public to think that their pupils can’t catch Covid in schools ‘schools are safe from Covid’

You may be fine with your children catching Covid in their school as is your right/opinion but it doesn’t mean that they were ever safe from catching Covid.
Nowhere is.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 12:12

You are suggesting, Ruby, that I've done something wrong.

People are also suggesting that I attract abuse because of my posting style. Many other posters with different posting styles have also attracted abuse. It's the same story on twitter. The issue isn't the style, the issue is that any posting about covid in schools suggesting a need for action attracts abuse.

OP posts:
RubyFowler · 04/07/2021 12:12

I'm sure you did Noble

But you still seem so pissed off at the rest that don't agree with you.
I assumed you hadn't been as successful as you hoped to be because you are still very angry with those that disagree.
You don't seem to be happy with what you'd achieved from your campaign.

Your reply to me just now is not seeking to have me as an ally considering I also said you make a lot of good points.

It was a rude and combative response, not the way to win people over to a cause you are clearly so passionate about.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 12:13

Oh, and criticising U4T definitely attracts abuse.

I'm not recruiting. I don't have anything to sign up to.
