Any anti mask people?

Just on the train back from London and there's a group of people on here who say they've been to a rally against wearing masks.

Ive been told I'm damaging myself by wearing my mask as I'm breathing in chemicals from the material which are harmful to me.

Just wondered - anyone been to this or feel the same way? And what are your reasons?

(Might regret this but genuinely curious) Not after a fight!!

I wonder why some people’s masks are soaking wet so quickly. Never had that happen to me.

User574664 · 27/06/2021 12:15

I’m not exempt but I don’t wear one now- no one has confronted me. I just don’t want to wear one I don’t think there needed anymore.

And your qualifications for coming to this conclusion? Science degree?

Or just a stamp and a pout?

User574664 · 27/06/2021 12:20

@DancesWithTortoises

No just my opinion which I’m entitled too, you carry on wearing yours but I’m not wearing one and that’s my choice.

ineedaholidaynow · 27/06/2021 12:27

@User574664 but we are still meant to be wearing them, so not really your choice. And as you wear them to protect other people that is a very selfish choice.

NotSoLongGoodbye · 27/06/2021 12:27

I tolerate but struggle with masks and find my life has become limited as a result. I have quite poor eyesight, wear varifocals and find masks make the whole situation worse with the constant steaming up. I needed to return something to a store last week, only option for returns was a touchscreen that I couldn't actually read because my glasses were steamed up and I can't see anything without my glasses. I had to ask for help and just wanted to cry. I felt so useless. So I don't really go anywhere I need to wear masks for any length of time now. And people don't understand because they see the masks as a symbol of preventing covid.

I don’t care what you think? I don’t have corona I’m not spreading anything. It’s not as bad as the government makes out anymore. Im not into the conspiracies but you shouldn’t believe everything the government is telling you.

User574664 · 27/06/2021 12:31

People need to stop judging others you do what you want to do and mind your own business if you see someone without a mask.

ineedaholidaynow · 27/06/2021 12:33

I listen to scientists. How do you think you know better than everyone else. Just own it that you don’t like masks not pretend that you know better than scientists

the point of masks is that given the high proportion of people who are infectious when asymptomatic, it reduces spread significantly on a population level

you can't know you don't have coronavirus, and as we know a huge number of people are completely unaware.

if you can't tolerate wearing a mask then by all means exempt yourself and no one should make you feel bad for doing so, but making things up to justify the decision is unnecessary

You can do as you please, darling, but damn straight I'll judge you if I want to. I am also judging your spelling and punctuation.
User574664 · 27/06/2021 12:40

@MrsLCSofLichfield

Oh darling I’m so upset and offended you commented on my bad spelling and punctuation, I won’t be able to sleep tonight.

bollihigh · 27/06/2021 12:50

I wear a mask religiously and it gives me some feelings of security but for a lot of especially young people, they seem to be giving up. This is a live rave in the centre of London taking place now. We so need for the vaccines to hold the line.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 27/06/2021 12:50

@KaptainKaveman

"A tool of control". Correct. For controlling the spread of a killer virus.
A killer virus 🤣

Before COVID did people question why surgeons etc wear masks? Did they think they were useless, dangerous for the wearer etc?
Surgeons wear them because they are working over an open wound prone to infection. This is entirely different on so many levels
ineedaholidaynow · 27/06/2021 13:03

Are you laughing at the families who have lost people to COVID across the world @LucilleTheVampireBat?

Same here for myself and many people I know
inmyslippers · 27/06/2021 13:14

I'm not anti mask per say I'm just complacent and very lazy. If I get out my car and I've forgotten to bring one I won't go back.

Iwonder08 · 27/06/2021 13:24

I wear mask where I have to. I personally don't have a strong belief in the masks efficiency. There are countries where the masks are not mandatory at all, here we have to wear them only inside, in some US states they recommend wearing 2 masks, some states required to wear them both inside and outside. All these doesn't make much sense.

eandz13 · 27/06/2021 13:42

I'm pretty anti mask. Mainly because they CAN work if worn correctly and if you're not constantly adjusting it. I have not seen many people wearing one 'properly' at all, and I know when I wore mine I had to fight the urge to faff around altering it to stay over my nose and fit my face properly (basically constantly touching my face, other surfaces, then my face... so on) which defeats the point. If you're doing that, it's not fucking effective at all. Argue all you want, everyone else does that too.

everybodysang · 27/06/2021 13:56

a lot of 'my personal belief' here as to why people don't believe in masks and very little in the way of evidence. Something you read on a meme in April 2020 doesn't hold much sway.

As for the PP calling themselves a conscientious objector - that's both very funny and really very depressing.

TheGenealogist · 27/06/2021 13:59

I don't believe that I am actively damaging my health by wearing a mask, no.

But I very much dislike wearing one, they are hot, uncomfortable, itchy and claustrophobic. I am only wearing one because I have to and the very second they aren't law any more they will be ditched. I don't wear mine properly by MN standards either, constantly fiddling with it, pulling it away from my face, pulling it down completely in empty supermarket aisles, using the same disposable many times.

I'm double vaccinated, so the risk of my spreading covid to anyone is miniscule.

TurquoiseLemur · 27/06/2021 17:37

Thank you for saying this.

All these "I don't LIKE wearing them" and "They are itchy and uncomfortable" and "It's my RIGHT to not wear them!" and "I'm entitled to my opinion (which flies in the face of actual scientific facts", they are the sort of comments you'd expect from a small and tantrummy child. It is beyond pathetic.

No-one actively LIKES wearing a mask. But there is a global pandemic, thousands and thousands have died, while others have lost loved ones, jobs, basic social support. There is EVIDENCE, plenty of it, that people wearing masks affords us some protection over and above not wearing them.

Reading this thread is like hearing a lot of spoilt and silly children.

TurquoiseLemur · 27/06/2021 17:41

Exactly.

Whatever we think of conscientious objection, men who did this during the two wars were brave. They stuck their necks out, took the consequences (which could be dire in the extreme.)

Nothing brave or heroic about "I'm not going to wear a mask because they are itchy and anyway, you can't MAKE me!"

RaisinsRuinEverything · 27/06/2021 19:05

I hate the bloody things. Mine is soaking wet within about 10 mins and feels vile. Worse now the hayfever season is upon us. I'm thinking I might make myself a lace one that I can actually breathe through, but still meet the performance rules as it would be a 'face covering'.
I think lace would be a bit too obvious! I’ve made some single layer cotton ones for summer. You can’t tell they’re only a single layer as the material is folded over at the sides. The elastic is quite loose too. They are much more comfortable and stay dry.
