Because no one wants to use them, what a waste of money.

It's pretty simple. They handed them out like sweets to kids (mine kept coming home with loads of them).

They also made the registering of them a pain in the neck - making you input the same information every bloody time - so people just won't bother to register negative ones.

If you want people to use a system, you need to design that system to be as easy and as intuitive for them as possible.

BellaintheWychElm · 25/06/2021 10:07

I use one a week and register the results for work as although it's not mandatory they badger you if it's not logged. I don't log the results with NHS. I can imagine that is happening alot.

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 25/06/2021 10:07

That’s all the school kids not taking them! Most of the students at my school are not, but there’s nothing we can do about it

ItsAboutTimeForANameChange · 25/06/2021 10:07

I have friends who didn't realise they were supposed to register negative tests

LightasaBreeze · 25/06/2021 10:07

I can't imagine many used them apart from on here, though maybe people ordered them with a view to using them in the future for holidays, not knowing they are the wrong ones. I've never used one so didn't bother to get any but I imagine some people maybe stocked up as it was a freeby.

SonnetForSpring · 25/06/2021 10:08

People aren't logging the results if negative.

Caramellatteplease · 25/06/2021 10:09

DS has SN, his first attempt took 3 swabs. I doubt I'm alone in this

Caramellatteplease · 25/06/2021 10:10

Yes theres been a few negative ones we haven't bothered loggingBlush

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/06/2021 10:10

I'll put my hands up to testing twice a week but frequently forgetting to register the damn results. Maybe half of them.

And I didn't register the two extra ones I took on top of the twice weekly.

Baileysforchristmas · 25/06/2021 10:11

They’re not ordering them they’re given out like sweets at schools. I agree hardly anyone is doing these tests accept the select few.

I think I’ve got most of them here. School gave DCs a box every day the week before half term. I went in to the chemist for some pririton and they gave me two boxes of them without me asking. We have a LFT testing site that were handing them out to passers by.

Guidance from school has changed. Initially they said test twice a week but only upload positive results. Last week they told us to log negatives as well as their numbers were low. I wonder if there has been any auditing and target setting of numbers being used?

CoddledAsAMommet · 25/06/2021 10:12

I can account for the missing ones. They're all in my house. All 600 million of the blighters, the kids brought them home from school in armfuls.

waltzingparrot · 25/06/2021 10:15

Well we are at personal responsibility level now. The government have actually made readily available the testing everybody was screaming for, now it is down to us to use.

I agree it was a shock to find out you have to keep putting in the same contact info etc, but having been doing it twice a week for months, it's actually piss easy.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 25/06/2021 10:15

I only wanted one (testing for a specific occasion) but they gave me a boxful. I will only use them if I have symptoms or have a contact who’s positive. I’m double vaxxed.

That explains why the hedges around the school are littered with them

I thought parents or over 18s would collect them.

Girlmama3 · 25/06/2021 10:20

My dd is doing one a day as there are several cases in her year. I’m not logging the results as it’s too much faff. If it’s ever positive obviously will.

I do one before every maternity appointment and have to log the results to show proof for that.

eurochick · 25/06/2021 10:21

We test as parents of a primary school child. I have only ever seen reference to registering the result mentioned on here. The school didn't tell us to. So I don't. If we had a positive result we would take a pcr and that would be registered.

purplesequins · 25/06/2021 10:21

similar here. dc are asked to do 2 lft per week but get 5 per week to take home. we have aquired a small pile of them by now.
Notstrongandstable · 25/06/2021 10:22

If I do one on myself I don't bother logging when it's negative. What's the point? Obviously I would if it was positive.
DS does two a week for school and I always log that on government website even though it's a pain

ladygindiva · 25/06/2021 10:23

I'll hold my hands up and admit I'm one of those people who is testing twice weekly and frequently forgetting to log the results. Crap excuse I know but I'm usually doing it in a rush and then forget to log it.

Frogsonglue · 25/06/2021 10:23

I stopped logging them after the first few. I don't think many people are logging them at all.

purplesequins · 25/06/2021 10:23

and yes, I would only register a positive outcome. too faffy otherwise. or in other word I don't have brainspace for this additional wifework shit

HarebrightCedarmoon · 25/06/2021 10:26

I've got several unused boxes of tests at home. TBH now all the adults in the house are fully vaccinated I really can't be arsed.

Ostara212 · 25/06/2021 10:26

People saying they got them free at the chemist
Did you have to give your address?

I'm not going to retrieve the boxes from hedges but as the government are wasting my money, I think the long cotton buds are quite handy in arts and crafts.

baffledcoconut · 25/06/2021 10:27

Why on earth should you register a negative one? I don’t understand that part.
