No legal compulsion to wear face masks once restrictions are lifted

Sky News reporting this morning that George Eustice has said with the removal of restrictions on July 19th will also come the removal of legal requirements to wear face coverings. I’m torn on how I feel about this.

🤣😂🤣😂 I clicked that and feel like I’ve lost some brain cells from logic deprivation. Super, if you believe I’m assuming you still believe in Santa?

If masks are so dangerous how do you think surgeons wear them for hours and hours each day? Honestly 😆

Hallyup6 · 25/06/2021 18:00

I genuinely can't wait to ditch the damn things. My heart sunk earlier when I read that our secondary school are forcing children to wear them again. I have painful spots around my jawline after not having them for years. I really am done with it all.

I don't care, I shall continue to wear a mask on public transport and in shops - I believe that good mask wearing, social distancing, ventilation and handwashing have got me through this safely, and I don't trust people who haven't done all this properly - in many countries people wear masks in winter so as not to spread or catch colds and flu - I am going to adopt this myself - I quite like them - most people's hygiene - and their faces - are improved with a good mask I say

Vinomummyinlockdown · 25/06/2021 18:10

What are you torn about? Masks are scientifically proven not to keep viruses out! A big old con. Our wonderful leaders and “scientists” even said so … people have short memories.

Supergirl1958 · 25/06/2021 18:10

If they do, then social distancing needs to come back in! I’m sick of people thinking it’s ok to climb on top of others to get things! I always stand back and wait for people (in a supermarket situation) if they take away masks it will be online shopping until I’m sure that people are trustworthy!!

Againstmachine · 25/06/2021 18:13

Anyone who wants to wear a mask after let them do it, but dont expect everyone else too.

browneyes77 · 25/06/2021 18:16

Because they are very hard of thinking and believe they're being oppressed by being asked to wear something across their nose and mouth during a pandemic of a respiratory virus

All the Covid deniers, anti-lockdowners and anti-vaxxers watch and share the same rubbish on Facebook and YouTube, and they all come out with the same phrases.

Yeah, like when they get challenged on the claptrap they spout, they always have the same phrase ready to spew out “Do ur research!” Grin

I usually respond with “I have, that’s why I know you’re talking crap” Grin

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 25/06/2021 18:29

I’m keeping mine on

Poorlykitten · 25/06/2021 18:51

@SuperMum23 I mean I don’t know where to start with this. I’ve seen some crap on MN but this is up there. Apart from numerous scientific articles that say the exact opposite you chose to believe Margareta Griesz-Brisson, the woman who believe Diabetic children should be treated with foot baths instead of given insulin.

KisstheTeapot14 · 25/06/2021 18:55

I'll be keeping hold of my mask for a while yet.

Cases up again in my county, lots of schools off with bubbles burst.

One whole year off due to a teenage sleepover (several girls).

If people were a bit sensible the graphs wouldn't be going up again.

KisstheTeapot14 · 25/06/2021 18:57

@Bertiebiscuit you and me both.

But I fear many others are just wishing this would go away, and behaving incautiously.

I think only some restrictions will be lifted, for example reopening of businesses still closed, I think people will still be told to wear masks in indoor venues and social distance in public

dalegirlinthedales · 25/06/2021 19:34

I bloody hope so!! I cannot wait to burn the fuckers Grin As soon as it is not legally mandated my face masks will be gone.

Chris08 · 25/06/2021 19:36

Don’t wear one anymore & never will again.

Chris08 · 25/06/2021 19:40

No, they don’t

BitterestPill · 25/06/2021 19:48

I appreciate the protection they offer me and the thought that if I have got covid and am unaware then I will be less likely to pass it on to someone else if I'm wearing a face mask.
Yes, they are a pain in the arris
Yes, they make my glasses fog up
But, in the grand scheme of things it's an easy thing to do.
Anyway I will listen to JVT, if he says we don't need to wear them anymore, I'll stop.
If he suggests that we are better off still wearing them, then I'll do that!...
Just had a thought...Where is he? We haven't seen him on TV for agessss

Theoldwrinkley · 25/06/2021 20:32

I think they are a total waste of time (and money, but I applaud those enterprising individuals who have set up on 'etsy' etc making bespoke/novelty face coverings) and seeing as so many people wear them only covering the mouth (not nose) even more of a pointless exercise. I went to the 'Nero' exhibition at the British Museum recently with my son who has autism, and he had a lanyard with 'I am exempt from wearing a face covering' badge. I felt so nauseous and claustrophobic on exiting the exhibition that I have ordered said badge on a lanyard.
Hopefully, even if the govt don't expressly permit activity without facemasks, the general public will vote with their non- wearing of these ridiculous, useless and polluting (so much litter!) items of apparel.

Bertiebiscuit · 25/06/2021 21:10

Pathetic endless over reactions and pitiful gripes from people who would presumably rather risk serious illness with long term ill effects and even death, and passing this on to others than wear a mask - just as deluded and dangerous as the anti vaxxers

You might want to hang on to them for a bit. Despite removing their mask mandate on 15 June, Israel has already (less than 2 weeks later) made them mandatory again.

Just because the restrictions are lifted once doesn't mean they can't be put back in place...

sue69m · 25/06/2021 21:30

It's up to the individual if they want to continue to wear a mask, no-one should be shamed either way.

MarvellousMonsters · 25/06/2021 22:39

"Yippee I hate them!"

"At last I'll be able to breathe again!"

"Muzzles"

Etc.

Seriously, just fuck off. It's a face mask, not a scolds bridle, wear a decent one (a pleated one, not a clingy neoprene/jersey thing) wear it properly (fit the wire over your nose) and your glasses won't steam up, and you'll be reducing the spread of various germs, including COVID19, protecting those around you, and yourself. If they didn't work the NHS wouldn't have insisted theatre staff wear them for sterile procedures for the last few decades. I work in a hospital, so I'm wearing masks all day, every day, it's no big deal, they don't actually inhibit your breathing, or any of the other nonsense people are whining about. For fucks sake get a grip.

FrippEnos · 25/06/2021 22:39

@Sparklingbrook

Why do people call them muzzles? It’s just a face mask.
Because it makes it an emotive term.

On the bright side it makes identifying arseholes easy.

That was at the beginning of the pandemic when masks were in short supply and no research had been done. Give me some reliable up to date research on masks not helping to prevent the spread of the CV. I bet you can't.
