No legal compulsion to wear face masks once restrictions are lifted

Sky News reporting this morning that George Eustice has said with the removal of restrictions on July 19th will also come the removal of legal requirements to wear face coverings. I’m torn on how I feel about this.

Thank god, can't wait.

They're just comforters for the anxious.

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 24/06/2021 08:59

I think it's the right move. With other health matters, the decisions to take proactive or preventative care are in the hands of the individual. Things like our weight, whether we use contraception or take sexual health test, how we behave when we get a cold are down to us.

The fact that some people make poor decisions doesn't mean it's the state's responsibility to step in.

Now that we have a much better (if still growing) knowledge base around this coronavirus how it presents, how to treat it, how to prevent it, who is more at risk I think it's right that people are given the latitude to make their own decisions.

userxx · 24/06/2021 09:00

I can't wait!!!! Despise the bloody things.

I will be going straight to the supermarket for a long leisurely browse.

Sparklingbrook · 24/06/2021 09:01

Well not if you didn’t wear one before but you have to now for your job. It’s a case of having to and nothing to do with comfort or anxiety. 🤷‍♀️

blobby10 · 24/06/2021 09:03

Probably because I avoid crowded places but I've never had anyone cough or sneeze into my face! And would never dream of coughing or sneezing into someone else's face either 🤢

but I do hate the muzzles and am one of those who has a selection of disposable ones stuffed in assorted bags and pockets ready to be dragged out for the ten minutes I can bear to wear one in a shop. So the sooner they get rid of the signs saying its compulsory to wear them the better!

Tallpaulwho · 24/06/2021 09:03

I will still wear them in enclosed spaces such as shops, as I have a vulnerable DC who won't be vaccinated for a long while yet. And also because other people.
So many people have poor hygiene, and I bet by August there will be threads on here complaining about lack of masks, after someone coughed on them in a shop.

McdonaldsMilkshake · 24/06/2021 09:04

@BelleClapper

I’ve never been convinced that the manky unwashed bit of fabric over most peoples faces is doing any good at all.

I see people in my place of work every day pull crumpled disposable masks out of their pockets to put on and take off and put back on again. Just what kind of protection is that offering?

The state of some peoples masks, it looks like they're trying to breed a new virus. Someone I know has had one disposable mask since masks became a thing and just wears that one mask - no disposing of it and no washing it either.
Sparklingbrook · 24/06/2021 09:05

Why do people call them muzzles? It’s just a face mask.

yepitsmey · 24/06/2021 09:07

Great. I'll be ditching mine the moment I can. I have a 9 month old and want to be able to chat and interact with her effectively when we are out and about shopping.

RhubarbTea · 24/06/2021 09:08

If we get to bin masks I will light a bonfire in my front garden and dance around it singing and shouting while throwing all my masks into the raging blaze. Can't wait to be rid of the fuckers.
Whether that happens on 19th July is another matter - I would like it to be the case but who knows.

RocheLobe · 24/06/2021 09:09

@Sparklingbrook

I have to wear one all day for work. I will be really happy not to have to. But will still be trying to do the SD thing. I will hold onto that bit.
The only thing stopping my employer getting everyone back in the office is the distancing thing - it’s not possible to distance from other people in my workplace because the desks are very close together to get as many people in as possible. I wouldn’t actually mind this as long as I don’t have to wear a mask as well tbh

I have never liked big crowds and I like my space so social distancing suits me, but I have as little control over how close people are to me at work as I do over wearing a mask - I have to do what my employer tells me.

This a hundred, million times over.

Muzzle is a great description.

hellywelly3 · 24/06/2021 09:12

Less and less people are wearing them. I work in retail and it’s really bloody annoying. It’s the same customers who poke their fingers around their mouth and then touch everything. Or who’s kids are dropping half chewed food on the floor.

MurdockTheMouse · 24/06/2021 09:13

@Glenthebattleostrich

When the restrictions are removed feel free to continue wearing your masks. I'm just looking forward to not being called a selfish granny killer because i cant wear one.
I’m undecided on what I’ll do. I feel safe enough but I do worry about making others feel uncomfortable but that’s just me

Aren’t muzzles things dogs wear to stop them being able to fully open their mouth and bite people?
What sort of masks are people wearing that are like that? 🤔

ConcernedAuntie · 24/06/2021 09:17

After all this time people still think that a mask protects them. A mask offers some protection from spreading droplets we breath out. My mask helps protect you, your mask helps protect me.

Cough on a mirror with no mask on then cough on mirror with a mask. Not perfect but some mitigation. Every little helps, a the saying goes.

Canigooutyet · 24/06/2021 09:21

Looking at some of the manky rags worn they have never been changed since the beginning. And it's usually these people who have a go at everyone else. The one that shouted at me the other day because I'm endangering everyone else I couldn't do anything but laugh at the fool.

Topseyt · 24/06/2021 09:26

It is brilliant news. 😃 I really can't wait and I hope it does happen on 19th July.

I want to be able to breathe in the supermarket and the shops. I also want to be able to see what I am buying properly and read the label, which is very difficult with a mask on because my glasses keep steaming up.

I'm also very much looking forward to the threads appearing on here saying that masks should continue to be worn after the legal obligation is ditched because we should all make martyrs of ourselves for the greater good. They will be great fun.

Sparklingbrook · 24/06/2021 09:26

I will definitely be buying a load of new lipstick 💄

NannyAndJohn · 24/06/2021 09:30

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

And let's see what happens with Delta+ before assuming that everything will open up, shall we?

Sparklingbrook · 24/06/2021 09:30

Yay. Here comes the gloom. 😂

PigeonStreet37 · 24/06/2021 09:31

Government muzzle!

Thank fuck for that!! Yippee aye yay!!

I had this from DBro this morning.

It did strike a chord!
