So angry. How far can they push this 'test/research events' bullshit? Why is everything in my child's life being cancelled and yet this gets to go ahead?
@tonystarksrighthand at some point you have to trust other people to play by the rules otherwise you’d never leave the house 🤷‍♀️
The risk of rocking up and being turned away from a fun/expensive game would provide quite an incentive to comply you would hope if people have an inch of common sense
Very good except right now it’s only some people being trusted to play by the rules.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 23/06/2021 07:10

On one hand , I'm happy as it is a sign of getting back to normal. On the other ....is it a case of people like ME need to suffer restrictions so that people like THEM don't have to .....? Hmm

Takingthewee · 23/06/2021 07:39

Schools being shut, no parkruns, holidays ruined, no singing, no dancing at weddings/no mixing, tables of 6 etc etc

But perfectly ok to invite 1000s from India, the USA etc to a beach resort in Cornwall (causing an awful spike in infections) or 10s of 1000s to football matches.

Bunch of self serving wankers.

Arbadacarba · 23/06/2021 07:40

@Dustyboots

It's men making the rules. Boris/Hancock/Gove/Sunak/Raab (and Cummings before then

Our whole bloody government is made up of men. It's like going back to the Victorian times. How is this acceptable? Why is it allowed to happen?

This. & the same goes for any sporting event.
BoomChicka · 23/06/2021 07:42

Hang on.. the final is 11th July.. if it is a "test" event then that must mean the attendees will be monitoring/tested afterwards, at least 10 days given that is the isolation period, then the data will need to be looked at and conclusions will need to be drawn.. yet restrictions on stadium events are due to be lifted 8 days later. I'm not a scientist but it seems like the maths is a bit off here? Surely our government wouldn't lie to us?

AuntieStella · 23/06/2021 07:46

This stinks.

I was OK the wide range of events being trialled (clubs, concerts, sports spectators) because it was a range

This is neither fair nor consistent. Nor is it proceeding cautiously.

The Media minister was out of his depthbaon Breakfast telly, but made a brave attempt to defend the indefensible.

Takingthewee · 23/06/2021 07:47

2500 VIPs allowed into the country, no restrictions, no quarantining.

No they wouldn't put any of us at risk would they.

Bordois · 23/06/2021 07:49

@SecondCityShark

Surely covid is going to explode post-euros. The stadium in Copenhagen looked rammed the other day.
It probably will.

But it will be blamed on schools, kids having sleepovers, restaurants and people having 7 people in their houses.

Iggly · 23/06/2021 10:27

I’ve emailed my Tory MP out of anger. I know she doesn’t care, but it’s important to put the noise out there. They don’t pay attention to online forums and Twitter rants (which I’m guilty of many), but do when constituents write in volume to their MP.

I can’t wait until the next general election. I hate this government with a passion. It’s a real kick in the teeth after their shitty £50 a YEAR “boost” for schools post covid.

Wankers.

write to Mp

MiddlesexGirl · 23/06/2021 10:31

It's a pilot event - designed to test outcomes. They can't make every event a pilot event and they can't allow everyone's social gathering / day trip/ school outing because they can't measure outcomes in the same way as a pilot event.
The events have been chosen because of the positive impact on the economy.
YABU.

Money talks

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 23/06/2021 10:38

The point here is not the football, and it's not the gender lens either that so many want to use here (as if the spectators are all going to be men Hmm)

The point is the fact that there are so many different rules and standards, many of which are in direct contradiction with each other, and many of which don't make sense when compared one to the other. Yes, the idea that only 6 can sing in a massive cathedral while 60,000 can do whatever in a stadium is bonkers. Bring on an end to restrictions, especially as it's summer.

On another note, I do hope they treat the Wembley events as experiments - to track whether these large events really do spread the disease around that much, especially when most people will have had to be tested beforehand (and most fans will have been vaxxed anyway).

EvilPea · 23/06/2021 10:39

Definitely nothing to do with Hungry capacity and Wembley just pipping it to the post.

EvilPea · 23/06/2021 10:42

Got to say, i really feel for all the transport staff, wembley staff and the police having to deal with this "experiement"

SofiaMichelle · 23/06/2021 10:43

I can’t wait until the next general election.

So to Tories can gain an even bigger majority?

paddyk · 23/06/2021 10:44

No probems here, we have to return to normal at some point and these type of test events are essential.

Faffinator · 23/06/2021 10:45

What @boomchicka said. How can it be a pilot event if they can't draw conclusions until after reopening?
paddyk · 23/06/2021 10:48

The grand prix will go ahead at 125000 capacity, is there a thread about that?

Delatron · 23/06/2021 10:49

I’d like to return to normal.
But for all of us, especially the children where it’s anything but normal right now. Shut away for multiple isolation periods. If that stopped then I’d be fine with these huge events.

MarshaBradyo · 23/06/2021 10:54

Me too

Do the events but resolve school issue first

I think the point you are missing is that millions of us are in tight restriction for travel, sports, weddings even funerals but prestigious sporting events, attended by the well heeled are going ahead, at a time when restrictions have been extended and even the PM is saying the easing in July may not happen.
paddyk · 23/06/2021 11:06

The well heeled? Have you watched any of the games....
My son is going to the British GP and there are criteria to be fullfilled with regards to testing etc.
There are many test events with huge crowds, but unsurprisingly its football that get's jumped on.
So far the test events have been very successful with very few cases detected afterward.

Delatron · 23/06/2021 11:16

I think the issue with football unfortunately is the behaviour. Not all. But there’s lots of drinking, hugging, shouting. People also filling pubs before and after. You don’t quite get that with other events.

Though I feel the same in general. That no huge events with thousands of people should go ahead while thousands of children are stuck at home. Yet again. When they aren’t even at risk.

MarshaBradyo · 23/06/2021 11:19

Cases are rising which is ok as hospitalisation link is weakened.

They are rising in a skewed way towards males as they get more events - yes women go back the data shows men do more

Meanwhile children are ridiculously sent home at one case. One. So one part of society gets freedoms and the young pay. I’m surprised anyone is ok with it.

Whatafool123 · 23/06/2021 11:34
@motogogo but we have no choice about sticking to the rules when everything we want to do is cancelled!
This is the most annoying bit. We can't stick two fingers up and go ahead with our festivals etc, as they aren't allowed to run. So frustrating!
