So angry. How far can they push this 'test/research events' bullshit? Why is everything in my child's life being cancelled and yet this gets to go ahead?

@Iggly

I’ve emailed my Tory MP out of anger. I know she doesn’t care, but it’s important to put the noise out there. They don’t pay attention to online forums and Twitter rants (which I’m guilty of many), but do when constituents write in volume to their MP.

I can’t wait until the next general election. I hate this government with a passion. It’s a real kick in the teeth after their shitty £50 a YEAR “boost” for schools post covid.

Wankers.

write to Mp

I have never written to my MP before but he is going to get a three volume opus this evening!

Euro finals are between 200 and 600 euros, £200 to £500 for the GP.

per person plus hotels and travel... yes well heeled.

But schools close because of one case, weddings curtailed, no foreign hols..... my Aunty can't even sing in her church choir.

ReasoningWithUnreasonable · 23/06/2021 11:54

Children don't make money, Euros, Wimbledon, Ascot does make money. That's how the gov sees it anyway. I gave up the moment the gov didn't close its border to India allowing the variant messing up the hard work we all did by closing businesses and putting our lives on hold for 5 months we can never get back. That was unforgivable for me!

Delatron · 23/06/2021 11:54

Yep I’d to to flout some rules right now. But I can’t send my child to his cancelled induction day. Or to the cancelled school trip. I can’t just turn up at his sports day or school production.

BoomChicka · 23/06/2021 12:53

@MiddlesexGirl

It's a pilot event - designed to test outcomes. They can't make every event a pilot event and they can't allow everyone's social gathering / day trip/ school outing because they can't measure outcomes in the same way as a pilot event. The events have been chosen because of the positive impact on the economy. YABU.
Is there more information about these pilot events online? As I said above, the final is just days before the 19th July, what use will the data be from the 11th if restrictions are lifted anyway on the 19th?

I can only think a) the 19th won't happen and never would or b) the pilot excuse is just that - a load of bollocks to see how much nonsense we will swallow while following the other rules like good little sheep.

Or both, I suppose.

You have just made those prices up.
jasjas1973 · 23/06/2021 13:14

@paddyk Actually, for Sundays GP race, the cheapest ticket is from £255.

The euro finals i got from the Uefa site but when i said "finals" i meant the final... which is what the thread is about, not the qualifying rounds.

I didn't make anything up.

Baileysforchristmas · 23/06/2021 13:46

Just wow, we are definitely being played here

Stephen Reicher, professor of psychology at the University of St Andrews told BBC Radio 4's Today programme the major problem with football was not people watching in the stadium but those at home not following restrictions.
"I saw data from Scotland yesterday showing that whereas two or three weeks ago the ratio of males and females, men and women, who get infections was roughly the same, now it is about three times higher for younger men and the obvious explanation for that is people meeting up at home, forgetting restrictions and infecting each other," he said.

Baileysforchristmas · 23/06/2021 13:48

Never mind all the crowds travelling down from Scotland on packed trains, 20,000 people in pubs and singing, oh no it’s people at home spreading it, what BS will they come out with next?

Yes I heard this

And children are sitting at home isolating for it, missing out and losing out

Really is diabolical

jasjas1973 · 23/06/2021 13:54

This lunch time, R4 had an interview with a 16yo student, every aspect of her education has & is still being affected.

Its an utter disgrace and should there be another LD because of this, it wont be politicians paying the price.

BarefootHippieChick · 23/06/2021 14:03

jasjas as someone with a child of that age I couldn't agree more

Course you did, youre looking at the remaining tickets for the GP and pretending that's how much it costs.
I agree its not cheap but youve gone from £500 to £255 when the truth is somewhat lowet, it's just that all the cheapest tickets have sold out.

Baileysforchristmas · 23/06/2021 14:32

Don’t test your children as the data will go against them, it’s all bullshit big time. I’m no Covid denier but people in power are now using it as an excuse.

EvilPea · 23/06/2021 14:49

All I can think of is the poor police trying to enforce it as fewer and fewer people comply.

I’m not sure that’s the best idea. Whilst there’s still unvaccinated people around.

@Ducksurprise

My son isn't allowed to go to the library after school. We are rural -the library being open meant he could study whilst he waited for me to collect his siblings and complete his homework as being rural our Internet is poor (we can't stream anything) This is our closest school.

Apparently catching Covid in the library is Too Risky, so he sits on the bench outside school, normally on his own, in an empty car park, because That Is Safer.

Yet 60,000 drinking people can mix, Scotland Manager can snog Billy, share a coach have a hug... I hope people remember this.

That's made me feel so sad.

Agree, all because our PM was chasing a trade deal with India. I think they known now that the Delta variant was seeded by at least 500 people, from what I was reading.

Are you serious @evilpea? (Like the name, BTW…)

Anyone vulnerable that thinks all the prevention and testing measures are keeping them safe by keeping transmission down needs to get out from their rock and take a look around!

All the measures are doing is keeping us locked up. They absolutely are not keeping case numbers down.

MercyBooth · 23/06/2021 15:13

@Baileysforchristmas Psychological abuse from Stephen Reicher there. Plenty about him in Laura Dodsworths book A State Of Fear.

Football is a very important part of the social structure. Kids are resilient they will cope.

Important to who? Not me. And try telling my suicidal nephew that 'he will cope'.

Football really isn’t more important than children’s education and wellbeing. I can’t believe anyone would argue that.

Exactly and I'm sick of the 'resilient' thing being trotted out. How are we measuring that? Who knows what is already being suffered now and what is being stored up for the future?
