So angry. How far can they push this 'test/research events' bullshit? Why is everything in my child's life being cancelled and yet this gets to go ahead?

Football is a very important part of the social structure. Kids are resilient they will cope.

Blimey. What an upside down view.

Tealightsandd · 23/06/2021 18:26

Regardless of the argument, it's important to point out that many kids love football (a lot more than school).

Also so do lots of women. Despite being ignored for too long, women's football has finally been given increased attention in recent years.

Whatever your views on the Euros, please let's not stick to old fashioned attitudes around women in football (and sports in general).

I do wonder if some of these posters have children and have any idea what they are going through on a daily basis as they really haven’t got a clue.

Tealightsandd · 23/06/2021 18:41

Definitely very few seem to know or care about CEV and CV children, and think about what they're going through.

Tealightsandd · 23/06/2021 18:42

No clue whatsoever in fact.

Totally agree.
Gothichouse40 · 23/06/2021 18:50

User1356, you have got it exactly right. Placate people's boredom (in particular men). Meanwhile the mugs like us cannot do this, that or the next thing. I just hope this doesn't end in complete disaster, as in Delta pays a visit because if it does, 60,000 people will all be out and about spreading it. The players seem to be getting it as it is. Im glad I won't be there.

Againstmachine · 23/06/2021 20:39

*Utter madness.

Rugby Premiership final on Saturday and only 10,000 allowed.*

Funny isn't is a 90000 seater stadium at wembley can have 60000, but Twickenham with its 80000 can have only 10000.

paddyk · 23/06/2021 22:16

Wimbledon 21000 per day
15000 capacity for the mens and womens final on centre court.
12000 a day at ascot
British Grand prix 125000 per day

But yeah lets get on footballs case

Againstmachine · 23/06/2021 22:43

Football it is one of most publicised sport so you have to take the bad as well as the good, also football fans tend to behave a lot differntly to fans of other sports.

Yes they are all wrong when you can only meet in groups of 6, but stop playing victim.

Victim? lolz... I'm glad they are all happening, getting back to some sort of normality. It's just comical that so much other stuff is going that's far worse in terms of covid spread but football gets singled out.
jasjas1973 · 24/06/2021 07:37

Football is getting singled out because the euro's is happening right now and it's the title of the thread!

also football fans tend to get pissed, fight, hug each other etc etc etc.

Perhaps we should look at the spikes in Delta infection in Israel? Despite a very high vaccination rate, Delta is still infecting folk, very low hospitalizations but it does show that CV, vaccines or not still has potential.

As for... Course you did, youre looking at the remaining tickets for the GP and pretending that's how much it costs
I agree its not cheap but youve gone from £500 to £255 when the truth is somewhat lower, it's just that all the cheapest tickets have sold out

You need to look up what "from £200..." means, i could have quoted the VIP tickets going from 6k each!

Either way, these sorts of sporting events are not for the poor but far more importantly, why the fuck should my DD miss out on her graduation celebration or younger students not have a Prom but a bunch of thugs get to go to Wembley?

MarshaBradyo · 24/06/2021 08:19

On R4 now - psychology of this is damaging as school sports cancelled but it goes ahead, double standard

Good it’s being raised

It feels like this year’s Dominic Cummings/Barnard Castle.
User135644 · 24/06/2021 09:20

I think the government are banking on England winning this tournament for a 'feel good factor' and to give them a popularity boost.

MarshaBradyo · 24/06/2021 09:31

Jean yes I think so on a bigger scale even

I’m fine with events, I listen to euros anyway as enjoy it more than other football which I don’t bother with, but the situation with children is insane.

Many said we were just a few ‘moaning on mn’ as they usually do so I’m glad that finally it’s in the media

Interviewee was hopeless though at answering, too siloed and just reverted back to safe event. Which it may be but someone needs to remember a large group disproportionately impacted. Hopeless right now

Can you expand on the term thugs? I go to football with all 3 of my kids and its as important to us as any prom or graduation celebration you may have missed and we can't wait to get back in after so long away. Wimbleddon starts on Monday and has 21000 fans a day in plus centre court will be at capacity for the semis and the final. Perhaps you should point your anger there instead.
jasjas1973 · 24/06/2021 09:49

The link between football and violence is well known, it doesn't need expanding upon.
English football "fans" have bought shame on this country and pre CV, takes up huge Police resource.

A Prom or Graduation is a once in a life time chance, you don't leave Uni again, nor will you be 16.

Football occurs every w/e.

I reported your name calling and it looks like MN agreed.

It's quite clear you're incredbily prejudiced toward football fans and thats a shame. I'd encourage you to look beyond your copy of the daily mail or whatever clouds your view and maybe even attend a few games at your local club. Name calling? I'm not the one who reffered to my kids as thugs, but whatever.

Aren't proms just another modern, Americanised thing? We never had one.
HolidayAtHome · 24/06/2021 11:50

Jeremy Vine R2 today apparently will be talking about how this is allowed while school sports days are bubbles only with no spectators.

I am also annoyed at the footballers who were all offered vaccines and turned them down, yet still hug etc. I understand vaccination is compulsory at the olympics, should have been at Euros also.

What baffles me is that covid disproportionally impacts those already in poor health, we have an obesity crisis and yet the government seems utterly disinterested in trying to improve public health and fitness.
loginfail · 24/06/2021 12:26

The "thugs" comment was completely offside..Hmm and worthy of a red card from MNHQ...I doubt you'd get away with stereotyping other groups in such a way in this place.

As for "football fans can do this" vs. "Children/schools have to do that"...

As a footie fan I think the situation being described in UK schools is sh1te..now I know the following thought will be slightly controversial but maybe, just maybe, the problem here lies with the way covid precautions are being handled by those responsible for education in the UK, not with those administering the Euros, and certainly not the football fans.

Perhaps the anger and vitriol needs to be directed in the appropriate direction?

SallyCinnabon · 24/06/2021 12:37

It’s simply about the money isn’t it, let’s be honest. Final in Wembley, Silverstone… COVID exists unless there’s lots of money to be made
