So angry. How far can they push this 'test/research events' bullshit? Why is everything in my child's life being cancelled and yet this gets to go ahead?

The "thugs" comment was completely offside..hmm and worthy of a red card from MNHQ...I doubt you'd get away with stereotyping other groups in such a way in this place

Cyclists were referred to as "scum, knobheads, c.u.n.t.s, wasps, road lice... etc ALL these terms were used by posters to describe cyclists who held up their journey in a very recent thread on whether cyclists should be registered.

So yes making generalisations about groups is condoned by MN, what isn't is saying "You're pathetic"

Considering the amounts spent on policing football matches and behavior of fans abroad, i thought i was being quite reasonable, i said a bunch of... not all are thugs.

Mark Roberts, the football policing lead for the National Police Chiefs' Council, has put the cost of policing professional football matches in England and Wales at over £48 million a year, of which police are able to claim back only around £5.5 million from clubs.4 Jun 2019

Of course its not football fans or the players fault, that they can go to Wembley, its the Government and their disregard to public health and the inequality of the rules.

3asAbird · 24/06/2021 12:46

The problem is even in sports there are mitigating safety circumstances that makes adults lives safer.
I assume negative test or proof vaccination
Some social distancing
I assume masks and rules on singing
By sounds of it price is big barrier to go watch the game.
Massive amounts security to manage the crowds.
Players and those who work in football regularly tested.

Compare to average primary which seems be big issue this wave.
No lft for most primary kids only staff.
No kids have been vaccinated
No masks
No social distancing

Its the conditions in schools themselves that have led to events being cancelled.
Because they don't care about mitigation cobid is a big issue in similar way to before xmas we let it get out control then everything was cancelled.

Seems perverse adults have greater freedoms.

I stupidly let my son go swimming with school Friday the bubble shut Thursday but they assured us bubble could reopen Friday.
Now there are 4cases.
We all self isolating and hes missed cricket match and practice this week thankfully his lft is negative and he's not unwell.

Baileysforchristmas · 24/06/2021 12:50

@3asAbird but none of that was going on outside the stadium, 30,000 Scottish fans travelling down on the train, no tests asked for, Leicester Square, huge crowds, hugging, singing, that’s fine. It’s the unfairness of expecting children to follow the rules but adults can run riot 🤷‍♀️

paddyk · 24/06/2021 12:55

140000 confirmed for the British GP.

Baileysforchristmas · 24/06/2021 12:58

@paddyk that is a huge area, not near any bars or pubs, everyone will have to test, you can’t get there on public transport, it’s completely different

Baileysforchristmas · 24/06/2021 12:59

@paddyk but I still think it’s hypocritical to children as even if need a test no one will check.

paddyk · 24/06/2021 13:12
@paddyk that is a huge area, not near any bars or pubs, everyone will have to test, you can’t get there on public transport, it’s completely different
There are packed granstands, bars, food trucks, huge amounts get there on buses from the park and ride.
Even the general trackside viewing areas are very busy, certainly no social distancing.

CloudPop · 24/06/2021 13:15

I wonder if they will publish the results of the trials at these events ?

MarshaBradyo · 24/06/2021 13:18

What baffles me is that covid disproportionally impacts those already in poor health, we have an obesity crisis and yet the government seems utterly disinterested in trying to improve public health and fitness.

It wouod be great if it was focussed on but not easy especially as this year has meant higher stress which can be linked to eating more - lockdown doesn’t help you have to make a concerted effort not to let it end up in weight gain (ime anyway I realised early on eating carbs to feel better was a bad idea given it was so long term!)

But yes we’re not overly healthy as a nation - hard nut to crack behaviourally

Tackling obesity is more than about behaviour change. We don’t have a decent public transport system, we as a nation have prioritised car use in everything - think of all the lack of decent walking routes etc to get around, the lack of local facilities in many towns and villages.

Buildings encourage lift use - think of shiny office buildings where the stairs are tucked away, shopping centres with escalators and lifts.

As a result, we are subconsciously encouraged to drive/avoid walking unless you live in London. I found that a real shock when we moved out!!!

Make it easier to walk and move about - then you go a huge way to tackling the lack of fitness.

MarshaBradyo · 24/06/2021 13:23

Iggly yes there is more to it - loads of stuff I’m sure people could come up with more still

MarshaBradyo · 24/06/2021 13:24

More that the last year plus all the things we’ve had thrown at us has made it harder on people rather than easier

WingingItSince1973 · 24/06/2021 13:28

2nd year running my 6year old gs sports day is not parents etc allowed. So sad as hes now year 1 and it's always been the highlight to the end of the school year. I know its a small thing in life but it's making memories with loved ones. Plus we still wearing masks in the playground at pick up x

Baileysforchristmas · 24/06/2021 13:39

I’m not against football or any other sport but you have to have a fair system, we’re becoming 2 tier society, open it up for everyone which I would be more than happy or make sure everyone follows the rules, all adults have to test twice week and report results or let everyone get on with it.

@Thegentleman yes it has and I’m horrified, I think we are on a slippery slope we won’t be able to get out of. I can’t believe people on here making all the excuses for the elite while condemning other people for not following guidelines to the letter, it’s horrifying.

Delatron · 24/06/2021 16:28

Yes @Thegentleman and what is worse is that people are defending the government...

@Thegentleman

Very true *@Baileysforchristmas* *@delatron* people are even sticking up for them I am shocked. If they will do that to their children and they still accept and support it, we have really have no hope for the future sadly. Covid exists 100% but has been manipulated to appear far worse than it is. A large majority of people are not even following restrictions anymore they are fed up, and we are not having huge outbreaks. The spike in cases is now coming from extra testing. If they do manage to scrape a "temporary" domestic passport in that's it goal done. It will be temporarily extended again and again until normalised and people will just accept it as normal. Then extra conditions will come to have your passport validated or green ticked to access non essential services and shops etc.
Absolutely. If it’s to be done, then it must be the other way around — passports for those that need a formal excuse to not partake in something (like work, to obtain educational resources at home, etc.).

I know that might sound draconian. But realistically it is only the opposite of what has been touted for us all, so I don’t see the problem.

And — although I hate myself for saying it — my kids, and my family, and many friends, have sacrificed a lot for the good of the relatively few for a long time. If the few can’t see that and start making some sacrifices themselves, then I’m… we’ll… quite disappointed.

Baileysforchristmas · 24/06/2021 17:18

My family have stopped testing for that very reason as the data will be used against you to put more restrictions on, while the elite who don’t test carry on about their day, if you point that out on here you are selfish and stupid but look around you, look what’s happening and this is just the start, I fear it will get worse,

That it is difficult, surely means it is even more important that it is given as much attention as possible, rather than simply being ignored. After all the costs of ill health cost us all through our taxes if nothing else.

frozendaisy · 24/06/2021 17:47

Our schools haven't organised anything this year, so nothing to cancel I guess.

I am guessing that the consequences of a teacher having to isolate reaches further than an adult at a sporting event, perhaps, and as an adult you are making a choice to attend, and the data is needed, so better using adults who agree to attend with all risks explained than schools.

3asAbird · 24/06/2021 21:34

I wasent sticking up for football
Cases increased again today at our school we already self isolating and its been miserable stressful week.
So seeing all this news about sport seems really unfair.

But point I was trying to make earlier and have done in previous posts is

School are not safe
Theres no mitigating measures to stop kids relentlessly testing and self isolating.
No freedom day for children, teachers or their parents.

They keep banging on about holidays and sports like most people care about thier kids.

Things really bad here right now maybe 100 school outbreaks across the city.
South west not up north.
I'm dreading autumn winter.

Whatafool123 · 24/06/2021 23:46

@Thegentleman

I asked on this forum if the penny had dropped yet a while ago and I was laughed at and ridiculed. G7 beach BBQ with people flown in from red and amber countries with no quarantine, distancing or masks when cameras off, tens of thousands of fans at Wembley, Scottish football player positive for covid and rest of team(bubble) still allowed to play. Meanwhile, your kids sports day/parents evenings/graduations all cancelled etc and multiple periods of your children locked up at home with no formal education by qualified teachers. So football and beach bbq's come before your children's future basically, while the leaders of the country are doing contract after contract making themselves, friends and family extremely wealthy. Then they try to get your kids to sing a song saying how we are all in together and are all united. While a lot on here moan about a selfish person not wearing a mask other side of Tesco, your being angry at the wrong people. Is the penny not dropping yet still?
I agree with every word of this. I am furious and depressed all at the same time. It is the feeling of helplessness that is worst of all. I can't bring back my daughter's secondary transition day, her cancelled residential, school play and sports day, all the missed playdates and nursery days out for my son, their birthday parties, the festival that has had to be cancelled because of the delay to freedom day, just everything really (and I know many people are much worse off) while the government and their cronies stick two fingers up at us plebs and all the sacrifices we have made.
