So St Ives now had case rate of 800 plus per 100000, surely this is a mistake?

I thought everyone was testing, quarantined, tested again, vaccinating and following social distancing? Are these local people who have tested positive now whilst everyone else has gone back off in their jets? How could this have been allowed to happen. I know I shouldn't be, but I am really shocked to see such a huge increase so soon after all the important meetings.

Oh, and rates in Cornwall are three times higher than in other countries of the SW.

Furloughlaylow · 22/06/2021 07:57

@FuzzyPuffling

Today on Spotlight the leader of Cornwall council is calling for surge testing, and the rate per 100,000 is 131 and still rising rapidly.
Quite shocking when you think that last year, a country was removed from the travel corridor if the rate went above 20/100k.

Most European amber list countries have far lower rates than the UK, let alone Cornwall.

Councils shouldn't be calling for surge testing, why isn't the government ahead of the curve???? they caused this and it will now spread out from Cornwall to the rest of us.

I agree with the poster who says we are being treated like the UK’s playground. The G7 could have been done online, not in a seaside holiday location, with swimming in the sea and barbecues on the beach. HmmHmmHmm

Also, half-term week I saw two coughing children dragged around two separate supermarkets in one day. Can’t say whether they were locals or people who were determined to enjoy their holiday despite the sick child. Likewise, I am seeing whole families walking around supermarkets mask free and wearing sunflower lanyards. Amazing how the whole group seems to have a hidden disability Hmm

"Err so delegates and their staff/media/security from all around the UK, India, the USA, Canada, Japan and Europe didn't infect your niece, it was fellow activists.... right."

Why would you expect a lot of young activists to be mixing at close quarters with the G7 delegates and their staff/media/security? Surely each group will be more likely to be spending time in proximity to its own members.

shinynewapple21 · 22/06/2021 11:53

Of course @amicissimma

I think a lot (most?) of people don't appreciate the scale of people involved with the organisation of the G7 summit. The delegates and their beach party haven't caused the outbreak, it's the huge number of people involved in the organisation , policing /security and reporting .

Thewiseoneincognito · 22/06/2021 12:27

Considering this included a handful of countries it doesn’t bode well for the Olympics- imagine the scale of outbreak in Tokyo once that gets underway.

You don't need to be mixing in close quarters with Delta, its highly infectious, many UK police weren't vaccinated, people from around the globe with very few vaccinated came to Cornwall, stayed in local hotels, went to shops, pubs bars etc etc.

Young activists were also going to many of the same places.

But regardless, the G7 summit shouldn't have happened, if i can't catch a ferry to a country with high vaccination rates and low infections, wtf are we doing inviting 10s of '000s of people to come to Cornwall from across the globe? madness.
