We need to learn to live with covid like we do with all other viruses, illnesses and diseases. The elderly and high risk are vaccinated… that was the goal, remember?! Like Hancock said, we will cry freedom when the over 70s are vaccinated!

There is no reason for mass testing when the young and healthy get covid mildly. My child is in tears yet again because she isn’t allowed to go to school for 10 days. A few students in her year group tested positive and all students are forced to be locked in their homes… again.

Are the sick?! No. Half have no symptoms. The others have a slight fever and feel a little tired.

This isn’t fair. This isn’t healthy. This isn’t sane. This is harmful and destructive to children. An entire generation has been betrayed. For what exactly? Over a virus which does not affect them. Over fear. Over people being immensely risk-averse. Over loss of control and people can’t take it.

It is time we live our lives and get back to normal before it’s too late. If our children hold us accountable and never forgive us, I will completely understand. We have not stood-up for them. Instead, we cowered in fear not giving a hoot about the collateral damage all these restrictions have caused. Shame on us.

@MercyBooth

Is this the way we are doing public health now? Locking down every winter.
Yes, our health service doesn't exist to protect us anymore, we exist to protect the health service. Do keep up
Tealightsandd · 21/06/2021 18:14

Yep and Scotland banning people from Manchester, funny Nicola Sturgeon waited until after the match'

Yes hypocrite. Andy Burnham quite rightly pointed out she allowed tens of thousands of Scottish football fans to travel to London. Many got the train from Glasgow, which has had a higher case rate than London.

MarshaBradyo · 21/06/2021 18:14

@ElsieBuckingnhamshire

I'm sorry but we may need future lockdowns to protect the NHS and don't forget about long covid.

The winter coming up will be a long one and as Boris said today, he can't rule out future lockdowns. I personally believe we should be preparing for the winter in a few weeks by gradually making sure we are ready for lockdown if needed. If everyone had the vaccine we wouldn't be in this mess but sadly selfishness and breaking the rules seems to occur for many. I hope we have a lockdown as winter approaches mainly to protect the NHS and they do a WONDERFUL job but hopefully not until after the football as my grandsons want to enjoy the tournament. It only comes around once every 4 years so we must make exceptions but I have no sympathy for other flouters of lockdown rules- why are people so selfish?

I assume sarcasm

I can’t tell anymore on here

Roonerspismed · 21/06/2021 18:17

elsie your whole post made me laugh. Was that your intention? What utter shite

Baileysforchristmas · 21/06/2021 18:18

@JaniieJones I’m actually getting more terrified by the minute by this, I can see a 2 tier society forming, all in the name of Covid, children constantly self isolating, other members of society carry on with no lockdown. The comments on here that it’s for everyone’s good, how dare we question it.

“ Much better to take containment and suppression measures now than keep on letting it drag out and on.”

Absolutely terrifying

80sMum · 21/06/2021 18:19

I am inclined to agree with the sentiments of the OP. We've all had enough. People have to die from something and we'll have to accept Covid 19 as one of the somethings for the forseeable future.

On the other hand, I can see why we haven't fully unlock yet. If we unlock fully now, we'll soon be overwhelmed with new hospitalisations again. A few more weeks of waiting now will save us from another full-on lockdown later on, I hope. We just need to put the vaccines into as many people as possible in the next few weeks.

Cornettoninja · 21/06/2021 18:22

@MercyBooth

Well im looking forward to bumping all the old threads from last Christmas/winter and tagging in everyone who said "suck it up its just for one Christmas/winter" if it does happen again.
What a lovely attitude.

I’m well aware that I don’t see eye to eye with many people in this board but never once I have thought to look forward to proving them wrong in such a nasty way. Fuck, I’d rather be proved wrong a lot of the time because it probably means things are much better in reality than I’d anticipated.

It’s fucked up to hope things go badly (whatever that means to you) just so you can point score.

MercyBooth · 21/06/2021 18:22

I posted this on another thread but i think it bears repeating

The nations children are protecting the adult elite.

FrippEnos · 21/06/2021 18:23

Its sad that posters can't see that there are simple comprises that could be had that would benefit us all as a whole.

MercyBooth · 21/06/2021 18:25

@Cornettoninja there was a lot of nastiness on those threads back then and peoples whose jobs were at stake because of it were treated appallingly. And yet if you go further back to the old ski trip threads from early last year the attitude is "yeah go wheres the harm"

Tealightsandd · 21/06/2021 18:25

Brick walls indeed.

Some people might never get it, I guess.

80-90% fully vaccinated. Then the virus has only very limited opportunity to spread or mutate. A few small numbers of cases, maybe, which obviously because so few are easily managed, treated, and contained. So that's the end.

Except if you're in the UK, doing it the UK way. The drag it out, prolong it, on off on off, spending more time and energy on tantrums then temporary measures to suppress and contain... So we remain a high risk country that other countries have travel warnings and vaccination requirements for. And loads of people, increasing numbers, end up long term sick and disabled, unable to work. The shitter alternative ending.

Not sure about just the elite version of adults but there’s something in the sentiment.
Cornettoninja · 21/06/2021 18:28

I don’t really give a shit what other people posted @MercyBooth. Your post was fucked up.

It doesn’t make it any better or justified that other people have posted fucked up things too. You believe what you’re saying and are looking forward to rubbing peoples faces in it.

Fucked. Up.

MercyBooth · 21/06/2021 18:29

Im not hoping things go badly. Im not one of the doom mongers on here Feel free to AS and see, but you wont But ppl saying suck it up its only for one Christmas not wanting to be called out on it? Thats not me hoping things are going to go badly. People calling for harsher restrictions and then coming back on here and saying "see i was right" belong in that category.

You really need a bit more practice at projection.

MercyBooth · 21/06/2021 18:31

No whats fucked up is you not wanting ppl to be called out on their dismissive attitudes. You are only too ready to call it out when others are wrong

Cornettoninja · 21/06/2021 18:34

No you’re right; I won’t. You tell yourself whatever you need to.

I’m out.

MercyBooth · 21/06/2021 18:38

@Cornettoninja "this is a one off" Your words referring to Christmas 2020 on the 19 Nov last year.

On 11 Feb you referred to people as "tantrumming when talking about Christmas 2020.

TableFlowerss · 21/06/2021 18:43

Where does it end though?

This is a genuine question. Why would there be a need for a Christmas lockdown when all adults will have vaccinated then?

If there would still be a lockdown despite all adults being vaccinated then what is left? What more can be done?

TableFlowerss · 21/06/2021 18:44

Because COVID is going no where! Ever!

If it’s not enough to have all adults vaccinated then surely we’re all fucked forever more?!

lightand · 21/06/2021 18:47

People are accountable for their words, and rightly so.

Some people are easily impressionable, and giving bad or wrong advice to others, is not on.

Lives and jobs etc at stake, as regards covid.
Everyone should be jolly careful what they post and say, especially about covid.

I suspect there is more trouble coming in the next few months at least. And not just about covid.
So people need to be careful what "advice" they take off social media. From people we all do not know.

I havent been here that long, but already I can see a handful of posters[not meaning @Cornettoninja yet as I havent read much of what she has posted] that I wouldnt buy a bag of sweets from.

Topseyt · 21/06/2021 18:47

Yes, our health service doesn't exist to protect us anymore, we exist to protect the health service. Do keep up

GrinGrinGrin I love that comment. Grin I'll admit that there may be truth in it though. If the government is to be believed.

Exactly. Every time they move the goal posts, every single time.

@TableFlowerss

Because COVID is going no where! Ever!

Quite.

Which is what some people have been saying for months.
Only then, they were called tin-foil persons or something.

I get you and I don’t know.

Which is why talk of a winter lockdown is off the scale depressing.

Baileysforchristmas · 21/06/2021 18:49

Yeah and who will be locked down, will it be all of us or some of us? We will get well it’s ok for them because blah blah but you and your children if you go out will kill everyone and how guilty will you feel, terrifying times.
