We need to learn to live with covid like we do with all other viruses, illnesses and diseases. The elderly and high risk are vaccinated… that was the goal, remember?! Like Hancock said, we will cry freedom when the over 70s are vaccinated!

There is no reason for mass testing when the young and healthy get covid mildly. My child is in tears yet again because she isn’t allowed to go to school for 10 days. A few students in her year group tested positive and all students are forced to be locked in their homes… again.

Are the sick?! No. Half have no symptoms. The others have a slight fever and feel a little tired.

This isn’t fair. This isn’t healthy. This isn’t sane. This is harmful and destructive to children. An entire generation has been betrayed. For what exactly? Over a virus which does not affect them. Over fear. Over people being immensely risk-averse. Over loss of control and people can’t take it.

It is time we live our lives and get back to normal before it’s too late. If our children hold us accountable and never forgive us, I will completely understand. We have not stood-up for them. Instead, we cowered in fear not giving a hoot about the collateral damage all these restrictions have caused. Shame on us.

I was widowed a week before the first lockdown, so I do not regard the isolation and depression lightly. Believe me I know all about it. It has been a harsh time for me.

But I also know that the measures were and are necessary and that everyone needs to get vaccinated.

Baileysforchristmas · 21/06/2021 17:41

Even more reason to enjoy summer and avoid self isolating as much as possible

MercyBooth · 21/06/2021 17:44

I get that but i HATE summer and love Christmas. Im more the hot chocolate in front of the fire beside a twinkly Christmas tree kind of woman. Im more of a winter person. I find UK summers hot humid and uncomfortable. And i know im not the only one.

MercyBooth · 21/06/2021 17:45

Is this the way we are doing public health now? Locking down every winter.

Baileysforchristmas · 21/06/2021 17:46

You can enjoy Christmas dinner outside 😊

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 21/06/2021 17:46

This might be really naive but is it desirable to eliminate flu? I know I’d rather go like my grandad, quickly at 80 from flu than like my grandma, at 96 after having spent 20 years really suffering with dementia.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 21/06/2021 17:49

Lockdown at Easter to be back to normal by Christmas. Cancel Christmas, don’t be so selfish, you can celebrate at Easter! Don’t celebrate at Easter, save it for summer. Oh wait, you can’t celebrate in summer either but everyone will be vaccinated by Christmas. You can’t possibly celebrate Christmas, what about flu…

Have I missed any?

MarshaBradyo · 21/06/2021 17:51

…wait the ROW need to be vaccinated

New variants

Well no consent from me for this.

If the issue is health service capacity then deal with that.

Locking everyone down is a crazy solution.

Better not be how depressing
MercyBooth · 21/06/2021 17:54

Well im looking forward to bumping all the old threads from last Christmas/winter and tagging in everyone who said "suck it up its just for one Christmas/winter" if it does happen again.

SueSaid · 21/06/2021 17:55

'Yep and Scotland banning people from Manchester, funny Nicola Sturgeon waited until after the match'

I know! How hilarious. She's more front than Blackpool that one.

Haven't rtft. I'm guessing it'll be the usual names parroting 'enough is enough!', 'this can't go on!', '#imdone', 'our dc have been sacrificed to save ancient 120 yr olds!' etc etc..

On a plus side hospitalisations are staying down, things are looking positive!! Take a deep breath, stop complaining and try a teeny bit of optimism. Go on, I dare you! It'll do your mh a world of good.

Campaign for assisted suicide and euthanasia if that's what you want (I do, and plan it for myself in the future).

Currently a painless, peaceful, and planned death is only available to those with money. It's not cheap to go to Dignitas.

Instead of letting the bodies pile up from an often unpleasant death, write to your MPs, join organisations like Dignity in Dying, support a change in the law.

Assisted suicide is a compassionate humane option. Condemning people to a possibly nasty death is not.

Obviously with Covid there's the separate issue that it kills plenty of younger people too. Particularly if we include those who die months after apparently recovering and being discharged from hospital.

And of course it's never been about just death. Long term disability of Long Covid is a huge issue.

Maggiesfarm · 21/06/2021 17:59

I just read in the news of a big upsurge in cases and Boris not ruling out further lockdowns, plus there will be no foreign travel for the foreseeable. I don't know how true that was, you can't believe all you read but there is an inevitability about it. Yet surely if everyone is vaccinated, there will be little risk.

For myself I don't care but I am aware of the problems the pandemic and handling of it has caused for others so was hoping the end was in sight.

Better to bump threads from last summer asking that we take suppression and containment measures (masks, working test and trace, border control with proper quarantine), explaining that if we don't it will just drag on and on and on, with on off on off lockdowns.
louleey · 21/06/2021 18:03

@Castlepeak

Rant away, but get your facts right

We do not have herd immunity. Not anywhere close.

Children are being protected from being the vector that kills their own loved ones.

Even though the high risk are vaccinated, studies are showing that many of them may still be extremely vulnerable to Covid and they must continue to take precautions.

You watch too much BBC News! So if the vaccinated are still vulnerable then what? Seriously what in your opinion is the answer? It’s beyond ridiculous, can’t people see it’s one rule for one and one for another? Boris has confirmed people coming into uk to watch euros don’t have to isolate, but have you seen how the uk citizens in quarantine hotels are being treated? If you are still happy to go along with this with all the contradictions and the pure hypocrisy, then I’m truly stunned

You're confusing Boris and chums, including the gruesome twosome - the Champions of Idiocy, lack of morals, of no foresight, - Mark Harper and Steve Baker, with the scientific and medical experts.

Much better to take containment and suppression measures now than keep on letting it drag out and on.

Why did Boris let in the Delta strain?

We need to put a stop to that sort of nonsense. Pandemic border control until majority fully vaccinated.

We paid billions for test and trace. Let's get it working.

And bring masks back to schools. What a brainless decision to get rid of them, just as cases of a new strain were rising...

SueSaid · 21/06/2021 18:07

'Well im looking forward to bumping all the old threads from last Christmas/winter and tagging in everyone who said "suck it up its just for one Christmas/winter" if it does happen again.'

Hmm. See I think any of the many on mn full of flouters saying 'fuck the restrictions I'll do what the fuck I want as I'm I'm special case, I'm having a playdate later and having my nan and ndn round tomorrow' are more relevant tbh.

ElsieBuckingnhamshire · 21/06/2021 18:08

I'm sorry but we may need future lockdowns to protect the NHS and don't forget about long covid.

The winter coming up will be a long one and as Boris said today, he can't rule out future lockdowns. I personally believe we should be preparing for the winter in a few weeks by gradually making sure we are ready for lockdown if needed. If everyone had the vaccine we wouldn't be in this mess but sadly selfishness and breaking the rules seems to occur for many. I hope we have a lockdown as winter approaches mainly to protect the NHS and they do a WONDERFUL job but hopefully not until after the football as my grandsons want to enjoy the tournament. It only comes around once every 4 years so we must make exceptions but I have no sympathy for other flouters of lockdown rules- why are people so selfish?

Tealightsandd · 21/06/2021 18:08

is it desirable to eliminate flu

Also to add to my previous post. Of course it is. Flu can kill young babies.

MercyBooth · 21/06/2021 18:11

Not selfish at all! Hmm Hmm

Tealightsandd · 21/06/2021 18:11

So if the vaccinated are still vulnerable then what?

We protect them (and the rest of the public, from possibly more dangerous new strains) through the true herd immunity of majority vaccinated.

Once the majority (80, preferably 90%) are vaccinated, there is limited opportunity for the virus to spread or mutate.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 21/06/2021 18:11

You're confusing Boris and chums, including the gruesome twosome - the Champions of Idiocy, lack of morals, of no foresight, - Mark Harper and Steve Baker, with the scientific and medical experts.

I’m not. Not a moron, thanks. There isn’t consensus among scientific and medical experts, not the ones who are attempting to balance harms of measures against their benefits, anyway. I find it galling that no one is even attempting to measure the costs and benefits of what most people are talking about on this thread - children isolating as contacts. We don’t know what impact, if any, it’s had on the spread of the pandemic. We haven’t recorded what the harms have been. No one is piloting any alternatives. How can there be an accepted scientific/medical view when there isn’t even any data?

MercyBooth · 21/06/2021 18:12

Ok Christina.
