We need to learn to live with covid like we do with all other viruses, illnesses and diseases. The elderly and high risk are vaccinated… that was the goal, remember?! Like Hancock said, we will cry freedom when the over 70s are vaccinated!

There is no reason for mass testing when the young and healthy get covid mildly. My child is in tears yet again because she isn’t allowed to go to school for 10 days. A few students in her year group tested positive and all students are forced to be locked in their homes… again.

Are the sick?! No. Half have no symptoms. The others have a slight fever and feel a little tired.

This isn’t fair. This isn’t healthy. This isn’t sane. This is harmful and destructive to children. An entire generation has been betrayed. For what exactly? Over a virus which does not affect them. Over fear. Over people being immensely risk-averse. Over loss of control and people can’t take it.

It is time we live our lives and get back to normal before it’s too late. If our children hold us accountable and never forgive us, I will completely understand. We have not stood-up for them. Instead, we cowered in fear not giving a hoot about the collateral damage all these restrictions have caused. Shame on us.

I’d like to know how thousands of Welsh fans that were watching the game in Azerbaijan a few days ago are now in Rome, surely both are on the amber list and require quarantine upon arrival. Seems we are being well and truly played here in the UK.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 20/06/2021 17:51

@sadperson16

I agree, its pathetic. Just walked into a restaurant and asked to wear a mask until we were at the table. A half hearted effort from us. Meal consumed maskless and no mask on the way out.

Its utter nonsense.

A heroic blow struck for freedom here 🙄
NannyAndJohn · 20/06/2021 17:52

"... the young and healthy get covid mildly"

Tell that to the 13.7% of all historic cases currently suffering from Long Covid.

Teateaandmoretea · 20/06/2021 17:53

The data wasn't 'from' Twitter, a scientist published the link to a medical journal on twitter, there is a difference - which I assume you understand perfectly well, because you can't be that stupid.

Oh great giver of wisdom from one paper yawn.

And Practise is the verb not Practice

@serenjico

I've been on just two threads today. Three or four yesterday (for a limited time only).

You must be on all the same threads, if you see me.

You might have seen me () but you clearly don't read what I say.

You might want a one party dictatorship forever, with no criticism of or change in government policy ever, where nobody is allowed to suggest improvements or tweaks...but I prefer democracy.

Money has been spent. Billions on test and trace. You might be happy to fling money around whily nily, but I prefer to use it wisely. When taxpayer money is spent on a project, it's not unreasonable to expect that project to work. Particularly when it's such huge sums.

Susannahmoody · 20/06/2021 17:53

Totally agree. We're abroad and just glad there's a semblance of intelligence been applied to the pandemic

Tealightsandd · 20/06/2021 17:53

I also don't condone false economy.

Guess they would've had to on arrival to Azerbaijan but if travelling onto Italy after wouldn't it be whatever rules that country has in place?

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

Yougov poll says majority support measure.
Who did they ask?? Because noone has ever asked me or anyone I know what we think

@Teateaandmoretea

There are so many threads on here where those with professional scientific knowledge have tried to explain the rationale behind it and yet still some people simply do not get it.

There are many scientists who disagree, but don’t let the truth get in the way of the great Covid theatre.

Well said. There's a nauseating tone of moral and intellectual superiority from a few posters who are actually motivated mostly by health anxiety.
Teateaandmoretea · 20/06/2021 17:54

Tell that to the 13.7% of all historic cases currently suffering from Long Covid.

So what’s your solution? We lock the other 87% down forever in case of vaccine escape?

About 30% say that the vaccine side effects were worse than the illness also.

You have to sign up for the app. Interestingly 70% on there have been double vaxxed it transpired the other day. Interesting stuff….

I wondered this so went to the site. You have to sign up to do surveys which they send you.

vegas888 · 20/06/2021 18:02

Both are on the amber list but it seems when it comes to football there are no rules. 🙄

NannyAndJohn · 20/06/2021 18:04
@HSHorror

Unmasked kids? As masks do anything at all to stop the spread of an aerosolized virus.

We have herd immunity. Those who have had covid + those adults who have been vaccinated. The only thing that matters is that the elderly and high risk are vaccinated. The goal was to stop severe symptoms not eradicate covid because it’s impossible!

We can now live our lives fully and yes, socialize!
Oh, you're one of those.

User135644 · 20/06/2021 18:05

@TheKeatingFive

you can't say a pandemic is over because you're sick of it (as we all are)

This particular strategy of dealing with it will eventually be over if widespread support for it dissipates.

Covid will never be over.

I think people have had enough now in general. Most will swallow an extra few weeks to get more vaccinated but most aren't living in fear anymore and are out socialising and mixing and doing whatever they're able to.

If it goes beyond this extra few weeks they'll lose the public altogether.

MrsBumbleforth · 20/06/2021 18:06

I agree re the concept of selfishness and the highest degree of suffering being born by those least affected by the illness. It is selfish to sacrifice the mental and physical well-being of children, especially those in key developmental periods like infancy and puberty who may be vulnerable to carrying effects for rest of their lives, to attempt to extend the lives of a small number of the infirm and elderly by perhaps a few more years. And children are suffering terribly from the 'new normals' especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds living in poverty.

frumpety · 20/06/2021 18:07

So are 'the people' going to send their children to school if they have been sent home to isolate ? All this ' I am no longer going to follow the restrictions' how does that pan out in real life ? What are you suggesting people actually do @SweetsMum3 ?

Mamanyt · 20/06/2021 18:09

Guys, I so understand everyone's frustration with all of this. Here is the problem...this virus is mutating quickly, and in ways that we do not totally understand. Eventually, there will be a mutation that is just as dangerous to young people as it is to older ones, and probably more lethal to everyone, and POSSIBLY vaccine resistant. AND NO COUNTRY HAS EVER GOTTEN 100% COOPERATION WITH PRECAUTIONS. None. Nowhere. Especially in my poor country, where we had a madman at the helm for 4 years.

If every country could/would enforce strict guidelines for 90 days, and if everyone complied to the fullest, this virus would be gone. Not going to happen. Whether you are trying to be part of the solution, or saying "I'm tired of it all, I'm doing what I want," it isn't going to happen. This stuff will keep being part of our lives.

Tealightsandd · 20/06/2021 18:10

Easy to sign up to survey sites.

Separately, go online to news sites. They've been doing polls throughout the pandemic. Like AIBU sort of one click polls.

Maybe I should sign up. Although it does seem to me that the type of person that would sign up to anything with "gov" in the title are more likely to be over-cautious.

A quick scan of my fb friends would say that 90% of us think that vaccines are a good idea (and that's just those I know have been jabbed, mostly double, the other 10% could think its a good idea too), but 99% of us also think that the extension was not such a good idea and will be beyond angry if it gets extended again. Only 1 of my fb friends seems absolutely terrified of covid, despite having no risk factors, and is always catastrophising (think dodgy maths poster style of thinking). None are "covid deniers", yes we know covid exists, but we also know lots of other illnesses exist.

Teateaandmoretea · 20/06/2021 18:11

@Mamanyt well quite.

But locking down makes us more vulnerable to these new strains and keeps it going.
