We need to learn to live with covid like we do with all other viruses, illnesses and diseases. The elderly and high risk are vaccinated… that was the goal, remember?! Like Hancock said, we will cry freedom when the over 70s are vaccinated!

There is no reason for mass testing when the young and healthy get covid mildly. My child is in tears yet again because she isn’t allowed to go to school for 10 days. A few students in her year group tested positive and all students are forced to be locked in their homes… again.

Are the sick?! No. Half have no symptoms. The others have a slight fever and feel a little tired.

This isn’t fair. This isn’t healthy. This isn’t sane. This is harmful and destructive to children. An entire generation has been betrayed. For what exactly? Over a virus which does not affect them. Over fear. Over people being immensely risk-averse. Over loss of control and people can’t take it.

It is time we live our lives and get back to normal before it’s too late. If our children hold us accountable and never forgive us, I will completely understand. We have not stood-up for them. Instead, we cowered in fear not giving a hoot about the collateral damage all these restrictions have caused. Shame on us.

@MarshaBradyo

You're so clever grin You caught me out, yes, I listen to 'unverified' Twitter 'stuff' all the time.

Well you’re quick to dismiss JCVI as government so I wasn’t sure 😂

I said I had seen you being very trusting of the government many times, then you asked a question about the JCVI which I answered, it was you who (incorrectly) suggested I saw them as one and the same Confused.
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/06/2021 17:38

What lobbying? Who’s complained?

I mean I’ve heard the hospitality and airlines complaining. But that’s not lobbying….

MarshaBradyo · 20/06/2021 17:38

It’s not just right wingers it’s business owners and groups from affected sectors

vegas888 · 20/06/2021 17:38

Talk in the DM today of possible winter lockdowns, I genuinely don’t think I can cope with another one.
Seems fine for all the football fans travelling to amber countries though, makes me sick!

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/06/2021 17:38

We vaccinated the living daylights out of everybody and it's still not enough.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 20/06/2021 17:38

@Daisy829

Agree. Everyone I speak to agrees. When do we take control and say no more!
To be fair, like tends to attract like and ‘group think’
Turquoisesea · 20/06/2021 17:39

My DD is off for 10 days again as someone on her school bus which she was only on once for 20 mins and wasn’t sitting anywhere near, tested positive. So now she’s going to miss over a week of school and we had to cancel my in-laws coming over today, despite the fact all the adults are double vaccinated and she’s had a negative test. Just seems like an absolute over reaction in my opinion. We’ve followed all the rules but just getting fed up with it now.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/06/2021 17:39

Yes, it's madness.

PracticingPerson · 20/06/2021 17:39

@serenjico

I also think my children might be pretty cross if they have serious health impacts because I pretended Covid was no risk to them.

And then those kids could grow up and look at the actual statistics and forgive you.

Circle of life eh? I remember being pretty cross with my mum who wouldn't let me go out after 9pm. Then I grew up and understood risk a whole lot better....

She has since been forgiven.

That will depend on how it plays out Confused - my point is, given all the health data coming out, I would rather wait.
IntermittentParps · 20/06/2021 17:40

Kids might generally get it mildly, sure, but what about their teachers and other staff? It's not that simple.

What’s your definition of lobbying?

Do you think they don’t have contact with government not sure what you think it is

Cornettoninja · 20/06/2021 17:41

As the situation stands this thread is redundant anyway. We are in the process of lifting restrictions. It’s just a bunch of people shouting bullshit into the ether (not being superior - I include myself in that).

Where was this vocal ‘majority’ in January? I’m sure you’re all still the same people I just suspect your rhetoric was slightly less self-assured when the shit was actually hitting the fan.

serenjico · 20/06/2021 17:41

@Tealightsandd I see you on so many threads and you want us all to care about and throw money and resources at literally everyone all the time.

No real statistics or anything it's just 'will someone please think about the ....' in different wordy forms.

Yes, World Peace would be lovely, along with solving homelessness, curing cancer, climate change, and giving a million smackaroonies to every child carer in the country. Let's pay people sick pay for every sniffle so vulnerable people are not exposed to colds. Lets build cat sanctuaries - we'll put them next to the children's long covid clinics. I'm sure we all agree this is the best thing for society.

Meanwhile, back in the real world....

Why can’t things change?

I’ve changed recently, definitely more compliant all the way through

Mischance · 20/06/2021 17:42

Not this again!

There are so many threads on here where those with professional scientific knowledge have tried to explain the rationale behind it and yet still some people simply do not get it.

Of course it is all crap; we none of us like it; but some of us understand why it is all necessary. The prime reason is to stop it being necessary for years.

Faffinator · 20/06/2021 17:42

It's quite clear that the weight of opinion IS changing especially amongst parents. It has nothing to do with a right-wing agenda any more.

serenjico · 20/06/2021 17:43

my point is, given all the health data coming out, I would rather wait.

Heath data from twitter and yet no qualms about vaccinating your children (can't understand why anyone wouldn't!) despite health data from youtube. Logic is logical here.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 20/06/2021 17:44

I hate the expression ’learn to live with it’. When people use it, it’s never them or their kids whom they imagine suffering. Post viral illness can destroy your life. Are you happy to “learn to live” with seeing your child unable to get out of bed? My friend’s friend has had a constant raised temperature for a YEAR after Covid. And the drs don’t know what to do about it. And it’s doctors who are setting up long Covid clinics because they are some of the people coming down with it due to exposure.

My friend’s son has hideous post viral symptoms two years after a (different) childhood virus. His life has been destroyed as has his family’s. Don’t say you are willing to live with it until you decide which of your kids, or yourself, you’d also be willing to sacrifice.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 20/06/2021 17:45

@DontLookEthel

The people have spoken, and the people are saying it's over.

No they haven't, but "some posters on mumsnet are pissed off with the restrictions and want it to be over" doesn't have quite the same ring to it Grin.

😂
Getawaywithit · 20/06/2021 17:46

That schools are operated by adults and require a minimum number of adults on site to stay open is very much lost on the likes of the OP. Hey ho.

applesandoranges221 · 20/06/2021 17:47

@Watapalava

Totally agree op

The world does seem to be full of selfish people who I presume have no social life anyway and are living lockdown

These introverts probable love restrictions

You can see the same shit being posted everyday

All the vulnerable offered vacvination

Job done

Open up and accept that people do die

It says sad but that’s life

Introverted, would drop all restrictions tomorrow. Believe me, there’s a difference between needing some time on your own and preferring small groups and lockdown.

On the more general point: sadly the lockdown lovers have won. Restrictions won’t be lifted, the excuses will vary from variants/ % vaccinated/ winter coming / insert bollocks here.

Teateaandmoretea · 20/06/2021 17:48

Kids might generally get it mildly, sure, but what about their teachers and other staff? It's not that simple.

That’s why they’ve been offered a vaccine 🤦🏻‍♀️

bumbleymummy · 20/06/2021 17:48

I agree with you OP. To be fair, I think most people IRL are starting to move on.

Teateaandmoretea · 20/06/2021 17:49

There are many scientists who disagree, but don’t let the truth get in the way of the great Covid theatre.

The data wasn't 'from' Twitter, a scientist published the link to a medical journal on twitter, there is a difference - which I assume you understand perfectly well, because you can't be that stupid.
