Do you think they will extend the lockdown or stick with 21st June As Freedom day?

I hope they don't extend, because it moves the goalposts and then could lead to another extension. As it optional to go to certain places like clubs, when they open, then people vaccinated or not can make their choice.

I sadly think they will extend it and ruin my party planned for the end of June.

If people had followed the rules we would be ok but they havent

All those pesky people daring to set foot outside the door. Nothing of course to do with covid being a virus and just doing what virus's (what is the plural) do. Right, got it. Shame we still needed a workforce to keep this country running while people locked themselves up inside for months on end.

IhateAntivaccers · 07/06/2021 21:30

@ThornAmongstRoses

yes but my point is we need to get to a stage were there are no deaths and unfortunately that means restrictions

Grin Grin

You have to laugh.

Can’t believe people actually think this is going to happen.

if this time last year people would have said we will still be under restrictions everyone would laugh and say what you have just said, look where we are
MercyBooth · 07/06/2021 21:30

Quite frankly what helps to cause non compliance in further lockdowns is comments minimizing the sacrifices we have already made. Why the fuck would/should people comply with yet another one when their efforts and sacrifices are treated like nothing and minimized and history is rewritten and people are gaslighted e,g, the "we are in this mess because no one complied over Christmas" bollocks. Rubbishing and minimizing the sacrifices ppl made in the past is what ensures non compliance in the future.
Look at Hancock and his "dont blow it now" bollocks Boris said the same. News reports saying that the reason so many ppl are in hospital is because they are breaking the rules. Its already been proved that whatever the public do and whatever the public sacrifice it will never be enough. Blame blame and more blame despite the fact you got 95% compliance. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!

Take that back to SPI-B

its mainly travel for things like football and holidays. no matter what rules are in place people keep going

@IhateAntivaccers

One other option would be to bring in compulsary masks outside like other countries if numbers creep up
is this a piss take?
IhateAntivaccers · 07/06/2021 21:34

Other countries have compulsary masks outside

MaxNormal · 07/06/2021 21:35

Zero covid is an extremist and damaging position and even one of its high priestesses Devi Sridhar seems to have given up on it.

Are they though, or just your interpretation of the rules? The stay local thing was dropped ages ago and yes while a small minority would have broken the rules (there will never ever ever be 100% compliance) most did actually stick to the rules.

Overthebow · 07/06/2021 21:40

@IhateAntivaccers

Even if you disagree it doesnt matter as we have had 18 months of restrictions. The government said it would be a non reversable plan to lift lockdown and are already going back on it. There will be restrictions and lockdowns in different forms till covid goes completely. If people had followed the rules we would be ok but they havent. Does anyone honestly think we wont have lockdowns again later this year and restrictions? The sooner people accept it and follow the rules the better and sooner we can get to low or zero covid
They aren't going back on it, there could be a delay, not a reverse. It won't go completely ever and we don't need it to. They're already talking about removing restrictions anyway as long as hospitalizations stay low. We will never have zero covid.
Susie477 · 07/06/2021 21:42

I fully expect them to extend the final roadmaps stage for at least another four weeks.

Johnson has boxed himself into a corner by announcing that the public inquiry will start in less than a year.

This means that he is now the hostage of the most over-cautious scientists in the room who will always want more data, fewer cases, less risk etc etc. If he ignores those voices now, he knows that they will stand up at the inquiry and accuse him of being responsible for X thousand additional unnecessary deaths because he didn’t follow their advice.

China and vietnam have proper travel restrictions for example and have virtually got rid of it completely. Do you think chinese people would be allowed to toddle off to the football in a green country with no proper track and test in place? Unlike many selfish people here they follow the rules which is why in the uk we will probably have years of this half life not fully free or not fully restricted. there is no end in sight. the vaccines dont last forever, new strains will arrive with less ability to be vacicnated against, many that had side effects wont go back all the time for new vaccines next year.

There won’t be another full lockdown. Sorry if that’s something you want for whatever demented reason but it just won’t happen.

IhateAntivaccers · 07/06/2021 21:48

what do you mean he isnt going back on it. the whole point of the road map was dates of ending restrictions, if it is delayed it is going back on it. We will also have death numbers up in the winter so that will get mentioned as a reason for lockdowns later this year. If people had stopped travelling we may be able to open up but they dont care. you can visit a red zone country for things like a funeral or visiting a house. no quarantine is foolproof, I read today of people going to green or amber countries returning from a red zone

No, the dates were "earliest possible dates." They were never a guarantee.

The dates were always stated to be the earliest things would happen not a set date.

PurpleDaisies · 07/06/2021 21:52

Johnson has boxed himself into a corner by announcing that the public inquiry will start in less than a year.

He’s boxed himself in by banging on about the road map being irreversible. He almost has to be super cautious now because politically it would be so awkward to go backwards.

There is a reason that people in China obey the rules and that's because they are terrified not to! I mean, there are many, many, many things we can criticise this Government for but "not being more like China" really isn't one of them.

yes that's true but if we had been more like china, close to forced vaccinations, houses boarded up in infected areas insted of infected people wandering around spreading the virus and proper monitering of people we would be in a better state.
AlecTrevelyan006 · 07/06/2021 23:08
