Do you think they will extend the lockdown or stick with 21st June As Freedom day?

I hope they don't extend, because it moves the goalposts and then could lead to another extension. As it optional to go to certain places like clubs, when they open, then people vaccinated or not can make their choice.

I sadly think they will extend it and ruin my party planned for the end of June.

@IhateAntivaccers we aren't going to get to a stage where there are no Covid deaths.

OrangeBananaFish · 07/06/2021 21:13

There will never be no deaths. People will die along with the economy first. We don't strive to get no deaths from flu/cancer/other illnesses. People die, yes its sad for the loved ones left behind, but its life.

If lifting the restrictions needs to be delayed then so be it, but the economy can't be put on hold forever, we have to live with it at some point just like we do any other illnesses.

Besides I read that the death recorded in todays figures happened in April 2020 (no that's not a typo, not by me anyway, but yes over a year ago)

ponders if a prolific lockdown lover has had another change of name

IhateAntivaccers · 07/06/2021 21:14

@Bordois

So we're going for immortality now.

That might take a while..

I mean from covid. Yes I agree people will die from other things
PurpleDaisies · 07/06/2021 21:14

yes but my point is we need to get to a stage were there are no deaths and unfortunately that means restrictions

I don’t think that’s the long term plan. There are flu deaths every year. People die from infectious diseases every year.

There’s going to have to be a tolerable low level of death and infection.

I thought that. Only started posting today. Hmm
TheKeatingFive · 07/06/2021 21:15

There were no deaths last week and today there was so they are increasing. that persons death has maent FAMILY MEMBERS WITHOUT A RELATIVE.

Well sorry to be blunt, but people die. All the time. Often from very preventable causes. That doesn’t mean continued restrictions are a proportional response.

This was never about preventing deaths per se. Just like we could always have done more to prevent cancer, heart disease, RTA deaths and didn’t. This was about not overwhelming the health service. And the health service is certainly not being overrun with Covid right now.

There was a day last week with no deaths so it can be done

Bordois · 07/06/2021 21:16

Yes I agree people will die from other things

sadly die? Maybe we should lockdown till we get to the stage people stop dying from other things too?

AnxiousAlpaca · 07/06/2021 21:16

@IhateAntivaccers why do only Covid deaths matter?

PurpleDaisies · 07/06/2021 21:17

There was a day last week with no deaths so it can be done

No recorded deaths. That’s not necessarily the same thing.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/06/2021 21:18

@IhateAntivaccers so why is it OK for people to die of other things but any Covid death is unacceptable?

MancyNitford · 07/06/2021 21:19

*yes but my point is we need to get to a stage were there are no deaths and unfortunately that means restrictions

Not going to happen. There might be some restrictions still in place from 21st June, but its unlikely to be anything like the restrictions we've had this year so far. Nor are we pursuing a zero covid strategy. That ship sailed long ago.

Sad as it is, people will die. They die of flu, cancer, heart disease and other illnesses ever day. We tolerate that and we are going to have to learn to tolerate deaths from covid too.

tell that to the 150,000 relatives of the dead from covid

People who die from other causes have relatives too.

Bordois · 07/06/2021 21:20

🤡

AnxiousAlpaca · 07/06/2021 21:22

@IhateAntivaccers that’s not even an answer. What about the women who’ve died due to domestic abuse during lockdown? So I’ll ask you again, and try to give a sensible answer. Why are you happy for people to die of other things so long as it isn’t Covid.

PurpleDaisies · 07/06/2021 21:23

Of course those deaths matter @IhateAntivaccers

There were far too many and many would have been preventable with better action from the government.

Going forward though, it’s not realistic to achieve zero covid deaths. It’s going to become a disease that circulates at low levels with occasional outbreaks. There will be deaths (very sadly) but not many. This is the same as for other infectious diseases.

IhateAntivaccers · 07/06/2021 21:23

Even if you disagree it doesnt matter as we have had 18 months of restrictions. The government said it would be a non reversable plan to lift lockdown and are already going back on it. There will be restrictions and lockdowns in different forms till covid goes completely. If people had followed the rules we would be ok but they havent. Does anyone honestly think we wont have lockdowns again later this year and restrictions? The sooner people accept it and follow the rules the better and sooner we can get to low or zero covid

TheKeatingFive · 07/06/2021 21:26

There will be restrictions and lockdowns in different forms till covid goes completely.

So forever then? Don’t be ridiculous.

IhateAntivaccers · 07/06/2021 21:27

One other option would be to bring in compulsary masks outside like other countries if numbers creep up

ThornAmongstRoses · 07/06/2021 21:28

yes but my point is we need to get to a stage were there are no deaths and unfortunately that means restrictions

Grin Grin

You have to laugh.

Can’t believe people actually think this is going to happen.

PurpleDaisies · 07/06/2021 21:28

@IhateAntivaccers

That will never happen and it shouldn’t. Masks don’t benefit anyone enough outdoors to warrant that.
IhateAntivaccers · 07/06/2021 21:29

no virus lasts forever but its 18 months so far and counting with restrictions and other countries having covid raging threw them. We no with travel that we arent safe till everyone is safe. The idea we will drop everything later this month and not have further lockdowns or restrictions with loads of other countries still lockded down is silly
PotassiumChloride · 07/06/2021 21:29

Some first rate trolling going on here. Love it.
