Do you think they will extend the lockdown or stick with 21st June As Freedom day?

I hope they don't extend, because it moves the goalposts and then could lead to another extension. As it optional to go to certain places like clubs, when they open, then people vaccinated or not can make their choice.

I sadly think they will extend it and ruin my party planned for the end of June.

They should have delayed the last level of unlocking I think.

@Tinkling

Agree all that nonsense on the news about hugs sent utterly the wrong message

And more importantly let the industries that are being completely destroyed by the lockdown have a fighting chance if they haven't already gone bankrupt

Those people I know who work in, or are traning for, these industries, would FAR prefer to open at a point when it is clear this is sustainable, and can be maintained for months at the same level, rather that opening on a date set only in bravado and kept to for political pride, followed by re-clopsure a few days or weeks later.

'Oh, they won't close them again' - rubbish. I give you schools in January. Opened by our Prime Minister in a spirit of hubris, and closed within 12 hours.

They just need to reopen ! And NOT reclose

Most people who want the vaccine have had it, many both doses. And On bbc news today it said 80% are now have immunity. So what if it's still circling around at a low level if no one is dying or having to go into hospital. So why not reopen everything there's no need or excuse to delay it!

And of course, if there's still some covid wetwipes like @IceCreamAndCandyfloss who want to stay locked down till covid has gone completely on the 12th of never, then let them.

NannyAndJohn · 09/06/2021 20:19

Hospitalisations are going up very quickly, @shetlandponies. Over 1000 in hospital today.

HazeyJaneII · 09/06/2021 20:26

Well they shouldn’t be dead, there’s a huge backlog to treat. We’re much busier than usual for this time of year

I was in hospital as an emergency admission last week, and the nurses were saying the same. I waited 15 hours for a bed.

shetlandponies · 09/06/2021 20:29

Oh wow Out of 66 million in the uk 🤷‍♀️ and most of that figure probably are just in hospital for other things and tested positive. So Can't get worried I'm afraid. The only thing that worries me is the fact that pathetic figure will probably be an excuse for the dick heads in charge to extend June 21 reopening
NannyAndJohn · 09/06/2021 20:39

Approximately 20,000 hospitalisations a day if we open up, @shetlandponies.

Still think it's worth it?

The government will never want to return our freedoms.

No not while so many people are still demanding harder and longer lockdowns

Honestly is it some sort of fetish for them ? Freaks 🧐

Will definately be extended... but won’t affect most people.... can still eat out....go the pub...go on U.K. hols....doesn’t bother me
shetlandponies · 09/06/2021 21:08

Apart from all the poor fuckers in the industries that won't be able to reopen.
And will be not earning and be worried sick about keeping food on the table and a roof over their heads. but never mind as long as you can still go to the pub in your mask with no more than six people

Fucking he'll @nannyandjohn they predicted we would have 2k people in hospital a week ago and we are no way near that and that was without the Indian variant...

I sincerely hope you don't part your miserable thoughts onto your grand kids!

The November lockdown suppressed that figure, as expected.
Chatterbox1987 · 09/06/2021 21:25

Just to say aswell, last year late September once cases had rose to the currently levels we have now... between 40-60 people were dying a day... now our average is about 7 a day. As long as 50 people a day are not dying I to be honest couldn't give a shit anymore... in a bad flu year 50 people die a day on average (albeit over the winter months mostly) I honestly believe 50 deaths a day will be considered acceptable and so it should be. Yes it's horrible for those families but every other illness has an acceptable death threshold.

Quick update on excess deaths following the release of ONS data for week 21, ending 28th May:

  1. Week 21 was the 13th consecutive week where deaths were at or below the 5 year average. Thats 3 solid months where deaths were lower than normal 'in the middle of a global pandemic'
  1. In weeks 20 and 21 deaths 'due to' COVID accounted for just 0.7% of overall deaths. Thats 7 deaths in every thousand.
  1. Since week 9 there have been 5,271 deaths 'involving' COVID. However, COVID was stated as a cause of death in just 3,989 of these. The PHE figure for that period is even lower at 2,588 deaths.
  1. Since week 9 there have been 10,576 fewer deaths than we would normally expect.

.......

despite all that I will be amazed if restrictions are lifted on the 21st. Too much of the public is still too scared of covid and too many in power are too scared of losing power.

How can you use that figure with any seriousness when we are already no way near that prediction... seriously you are so deluded its unreal. Do you honestly get a kick in trying to scare people?

We are below every one of those predictions and they were made before we had the super duper scarient... eventide I point this out to you, you just go quiet....

No it didn't. The figures were a pack of lies which they were rightly criticised for. Even vallance and whitty admitted it was wrong.

But for some reason people choose to ignore that Hmm
