Do you think they will extend the lockdown or stick with 21st June As Freedom day?

I hope they don't extend, because it moves the goalposts and then could lead to another extension. As it optional to go to certain places like clubs, when they open, then people vaccinated or not can make their choice.

I sadly think they will extend it and ruin my party planned for the end of June.

Every time I point this out*

EasterIssland · 09/06/2021 21:37

@NannyAndJohn

Approximately 20,000 hospitalisations a day if we open up, *@shetlandponies*.

Still think it's worth it?

Glad you continue being so negative day after day.

At the peak of the pandemic back in January we had 40k people in hospital. For being 20k a day ... we should be soon seeing numbers like Oct / nov which were not , specially in hospitals and deaths.

You never get tired of being negative , don’t you ?

RedcurrantPuff · 09/06/2021 21:46

@NannyAndJohn that’s gone up quite a bit, last week you said 15000 a day.

Given we had 40k in hospital at the last peak, in winter with virtually no one vaccinated, I’ll take that assessment with a very large pinch of salt.

duckme · 09/06/2021 21:47

I had a conversation with an A and E nurse today. He said is hospital is crazy busy but not with covid patients. He also said it has been weeks since he last treated a covid patient.
We don't live in a rural area, I'd imagine our area is on the radar for being a delta varient hot spot.

despite all that I will amazed if restrictions are lifted on the 21st. Too much of the public is still too scared
Well that's perfect, just because it's open you don't have to go. So those who are scared don't do the things you deem risky. Those of us vaccinated, part vaccinated or happy to take a small risk can go to the weddings, the bars, the nightclubs, the parties and group meals at restaurants. Date we even consider a holiday?

Driven by data, so we should unlock.

bouncystorm · 09/06/2021 21:54

I wonder if Boris reads the Corona boards of MN ? 😅

NannyAndJohn · 09/06/2021 21:58

I just want to avoid another lockdown, @Chatterbox1987.

Shame most others don't feel the same.

I think most of us do, but spouting made up figures isn’t going to help.

I love lockdowns, can’t wait for version 2022 and version 2023 and version 2024.

However you’re not putting yourself in reality. January 40k in total in hospital. You’re saying we’re heading towards 20k a day... the wave from now should be huge. The last time we had 1k people in hospital was in July 2020

Probably

Seeing as the spineless cunts seem to govern purely by popular opinion.

@MercyBooth as indecision Sunday and announcement Monday or announcing Sunday ? .. I had it in my mind the 14th. I wonder 🧐

Many US states including Florida and Texas have got rid of mandatory requirements including face masks. Did cases and deaths rise dramatically when this happened? No. Has the mainstream British media even mentioned this once? No.

France has the end of June as their freedom day. We had such a lead in vaccines. We could have abandoned all legal measures once the vulnerable had been vaccinated months ago as promised by Hancock. An opportunity to lead the world thrown away.

The US doesn't have the Delta Variant yet.

Let's see if they have more success than us in keeping it out.

They do, I think it's about 6% of current cases at the moment, which has been slowly growing over the past few weeks/months, not sure how much genome sequencing they do though?

IdblowJonSnow · 10/06/2021 00:10

I hope the date is delayed until we know more. Rates are doubling in less than a week. You really don't need to be a genius to work out where this could lead.

To the PP saying they didnt believe that ICU had many under 40s, you do understand that cases can vary hugely between different regions right?

Justa47 · 10/06/2021 06:17

@Sadsiblingatsea

That’s just nonsense and spreads dissatisfaction. The legislation times out.

Justa47 · 10/06/2021 06:20

@HairyFloppins

Exactly I am sick of people posting here who don’t know the facts

Like the USA has surges where vaccinations are low.
Great South America is in an extremely bad way
That 10 African countries are seeing a large increase
That ASEAN ( trading block) countries have lick downs and restrictions.
That HK tightened restrictions; the Chinese know.
That the transmission rate of Indian variant is now named to be 69% more than Kent variant.

We must have back bone. And kept SD and masks

Justa47 · 10/06/2021 06:44

@Chatterbox1987

The delta variant is a highly significant change with new estimates at 60% more transmission that alpha (Kent). Hence in public health sense the targets have to change and the calculations before are now no longer valid.

A delay of 4/5 weeks and keeping masks is highly significant to the disease spread and hardly not to people given where we are.

People need to suck it up for the greater good.

Lochelant · 10/06/2021 06:48

I’ve just seen a report by The Times stating that it is expected BJ will lift restrictions on weddings. So that’s good.

Not really unless outdoors only. Huge groups with alcohol, no distancing and masks makes no sense currently.
Lochelant · 10/06/2021 07:32

There was no mention of outdoors just that restrictions on weddings are expected to be lifted. Going of that I assume weddings indoors will go ahead.

shetlandponies · 10/06/2021 09:12

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

It makes total sense !! Sounds like the party I'm having at the weekend. I Can't Wait 🍸🍸🍸🍸

Bet you hope I'm your neighbor so you can grass me up. Except I only you aren't as all my neighbours are coming to the party. Haha
