Not sure why I'm using AIBU because I've already made up my mind that i'm not, but interested to hear the thoughts of others...my friend is an air stewardess and says she flys to India regularly in an empty plane but comes back with the plane full! I was surprised as I wrongly assumed that with all systems go prepared for the 21st, travel to the UK from India would be banned unless you are returning home to quarantine or had an emergency family/business issue to attend to. WTF is flying in from a scientifically proven covid varient hot spot still allowed when we're preparing to free ourselves from bondage? Also how come the USA is never on the red list (of course we all know why, I'm just being sarcastic). Rant over!!!

@OneMamaAndHerGirl

I could never imagine being someone who corrects someone’s spelling mistakes in such a shitty manner.

I agree with you OP

Thank you. They need something to make themselves feel good I suppose. I see spelling mistakes on here all the time and just respond to the postHmm
@HavelockVetinari thank you for reminding some of these bitter people! I actually am dyslexic but was not going to mention it until I read your response. I'll ignore those ediots looking for an argument as there is a much more important issue facing all of us and I'm confident that they understood every word I said despite any spelling mistakes!!
No problem. My lovely niece is dyslexic, and thinking about people treating her like some MNetters do fills me with rage, she's so insecure about her writing. Sad

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 04/06/2021 21:16
@AllOptionsAreOnTheTable ahh, she didn't mention that part. I wonder if it's compulsory hotel quarantine or quarantine at location after using public transport again...
How did you not know that hotel quarantine for red list countries has been in for weeks now? Didn't you think to check before ranting?

Your friend probably didn't mention it because she assumes that everyone knows it.

It is in a hotel. As I said in my post.

I genuinely don't understand how you can be so enraged about something without finding out the facts.

FaceAcher · 04/06/2021 21:19

@murbblurb

MN ability to miss the point is spectacular tonight. Sorry, op - as you see there is a high dumbfuck quota who don't recognise reality.
Oh we recognise reality.

OP came on here ranting about wanting to keep foreigners out. Completely ignoring the fact these people will be having the mandatory hotel quarantine at their own expense.

There's nothing to moan about.

People are only mocking the spelling because the entire rant is pointless.

It's like listening to my racist, Daily Mail reading FIL.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/06/2021 21:19

Close the door after the horse has bolted you mean?

HelpMeh · 04/06/2021 21:20

Why would you start a long arse rant of a post without even checking if the country is on the red list?

Anyone returning from India has to pay for hotel quarantine. It's diplomatically questionable to lock citizens out of their own country so yes, British passport holders will be returning from India.

As someone who needs to return to the UK very soon (not from India), back to my home, where I live with my husband who I haven't seen since December, I'd rather appreciate the borders remaining open thanks.

Some people have dyslexia

That eternally trotted-out excuse is offensive to people with genuine dyslexia.

schoolfinder007 · 04/06/2021 21:22

Ediot

That made me chuckle

Zzelda · 04/06/2021 21:23

OP, why on earth did you assume that people travelling here from India would not have to go into quarantine? Surely you knew or could work out that, if any country qualifies for the red list, India does?

ilovesouthlondon · 04/06/2021 21:24

@MaybeCrazy2

They are most likely English born Indians coming back, although why so many was allowed to fly out to a hotspot in the first place is another question.

No, your granny’s funeral is not that important if it puts the whole country in further restrictions- close the boarrrdddddders 🙂

@MaybeCrazy2 I agree and am in no way targeting people from a nationality perspective. For me this is all about risk and the possibility of us not getting to the 21st with all restrictions gone. That's my only concern. I'm surprised so many people In the comments section aren't considering this but go bat shit if someone walks into a shop without a mask. Before anyone looking for a fight says it, yes I know that not everyone coming from India has covidHmm

@Zzelda if I knew that and could work that out I would not have written the post as it would be pointless...I do know now and am going to ask why she didn't mention thisHmm. I only tune into the news intermittently otherwise its just too depressing so i missed that bit.

But what do you want people to consider? Anyone coming from India is going straight to hotel quarantine, at their own expense. What is it you think everyone else is being lax about here?

NannyAndJohn · 04/06/2021 21:28

If Johnson had "followed the science" and closed the borders back in Feb 2020 we'd have been free of restrictions for months now.

Instead we've over 150,000 dead and about to head into another lockdown.

Shoppingwithmother · 04/06/2021 21:29

I wasn’t privately educated. Amazingly enough I am still very good at spelling. You can also be really intelligent and not have gone to a private school, unbelievable though that may seem!

StoneofDestiny · 04/06/2021 21:30

But India’s on the red list. You do have to quarantine when arriving in the UK from India. In a quarantine hotel. At a cost of £1,750 a person I think

I know people who flew to India with a special visa to get married - then are returning via another country to avoid quarantine costs.
Ridiculous they were allowed to travel - and ridiculous they (and others) can by pass quarantine so easily..

L123A · 04/06/2021 21:30

I’m confused - you say your friend is air hostess on these flights but also that you’re not aware of hotel quarantine. Assuming you’ve actually discussed this with your friend that’s seems impossible-she at least must be aware?

MaeveDidIt · 04/06/2021 21:31

YADNBU
Couldn't agree with you more.
It's crazy and I think we are really going to pay for this in a few month's time.
They might close the border then but it will be far too late.

StoneofDestiny · 04/06/2021 21:33

Correct - and he refused to shut down travel to and from India mid pandemic - because of 'trade issues', but shut down travel to and from Pakistan..

Anonymous48 · 04/06/2021 21:33

Really? Maybe because the US is doing much better than the UK. Here in the US we (anyone over the age of 2) wore masks a couple of months before you guys. Covid guidelines are based on actual data rather than arbitrary dates. We never had ridiculous rules such as the "rule of 6". Most importantly anyone over the age of 12 has been able to get vaccinated for several weeks now.

Yes - we need to close the borders now to stop EXPORTING the Indian virus (now endemic) to other countries which don’t yet have it)
