Not sure why I'm using AIBU because I've already made up my mind that i'm not, but interested to hear the thoughts of others...my friend is an air stewardess and says she flys to India regularly in an empty plane but comes back with the plane full! I was surprised as I wrongly assumed that with all systems go prepared for the 21st, travel to the UK from India would be banned unless you are returning home to quarantine or had an emergency family/business issue to attend to. WTF is flying in from a scientifically proven covid varient hot spot still allowed when we're preparing to free ourselves from bondage? Also how come the USA is never on the red list (of course we all know why, I'm just being sarcastic). Rant over!!!

MaybeCrazy2 · 04/06/2021 21:05

They are most likely English born Indians coming back, although why so many was allowed to fly out to a hotspot in the first place is another question.

No, your granny’s funeral is not that important if it puts the whole country in further restrictions- close the boarrrdddddders 🙂

@HavelockVetinari thank you for reminding some of these bitter people! I actually am dyslexic but was not going to mention it until I read your response. I'll ignore those ediots looking for an argument as there is a much more important issue facing all of us and I'm confident that they understood every word I said despite any spelling mistakes!!

@BlusteryLake but it's not just one plane load, that's my point! I understand people may have valid reasons for travel but I'm concerned that this is not being monitored.

The passengers have to do hotel quarantine (unless they have some very specific circumstances) the same as from any of the red list countries

OneMamaAndHerGirl · 04/06/2021 21:06

I could never imagine being someone who corrects someone’s spelling mistakes in such a shitty manner.

I agree with you OP

Bedsheets4knickers · 04/06/2021 21:07

@HavelockVetinari

People are such dicks on here about spelling and grammar.

Some people have dyslexia.

Some people didn't have a great education.

Some people are stressed and upset and mistype.

There's no need for people to be a prick in any of those situations, regardless of how unreasonable the OP is.

What I don't understand is that I clearly remember members of this government going on and on about taking control of our borders, but yet they keep not doing it, most odd.

colouringindoors · 04/06/2021 21:07

Ignore the spelling snobs.

YANBU.

DenimDrift · 04/06/2021 21:08

what 'important issue' is facing us??

ilovesouthlondon · 04/06/2021 21:08

@AllOptionsAreOnTheTable ahh, she didn't mention that part. I wonder if it's compulsory hotel quarantine or quarantine at location after using public transport again...

MissChanandlerBong90 · 04/06/2021 21:08

But India’s on the red list. You do have to quarantine when arriving in the UK from India. In a quarantine hotel. At a cost of £1,750 a person I think.

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/06/2021 21:09

I just googled and 3/4 millions British people are dual nationals. That's a lot of planes!

ilovesouthlondon · 04/06/2021 21:09

@jgw1 those are my thoughts! Some people are actually asking what we are facing...

ilovesouthlondon · 04/06/2021 21:11

@MrsTerryPratchett did you read the part where I talked about returning home or having an urgent business/family matter? My post is not about nationally it's about risk.

I wasn't aware of this. Actually makes me feel much better.

I cannot understand why the border has not closed?? why?

FaceAcher · 04/06/2021 21:12

A boarder?

As in someone who boards at school?

How can we close them?

murbblurb · 04/06/2021 21:13

MN ability to miss the point is spectacular tonight. Sorry, op - as you see there is a high dumbfuck quota who don't recognise reality.

GreenTangerine · 04/06/2021 21:13

It’s compulsory hotel quarantine. To the tune of £1750. Only British citizens and those with residence rights e.g students can travel. You can’t get on your flight without evidencing your quarantine booking. I get quite sad for the people who are travelling being ranted at/about. If they weren’t allowed to enter the UK, they wouldn’t be on that flight. It’s not as if there are loads of tourists from India nipping over for a holiday! IMO being a red list country is as close to having “closed borders” as is practicably possible.

jgw1 · 04/06/2021 21:13

@Coldwine75

I cannot understand why the border has not closed?? why?
I think we can't close the border due to some EU rules.
Coldwine75 · 04/06/2021 21:14

Fuck the EU rules, this is a pandemic!

ouproblems · 04/06/2021 21:14

@MrsTerryPratchett India does not allow dual nationality.

DenimDrift · 04/06/2021 21:14

is that just India? what happens to those returning from Portugal?

FaceAcher · 04/06/2021 21:15

@MaybeCrazy2

People who point out grammar are dicks. Not everyone was in a private education- shame manners wasn’t taught to any of you.
I think you meant.

"Shame manners 'weren't' taught to any of you."

Also - it's a sad world if you think only privately educated people should be able to talk and write correctly.....
