Not sure why I'm using AIBU because I've already made up my mind that i'm not, but interested to hear the thoughts of others...my friend is an air stewardess and says she flys to India regularly in an empty plane but comes back with the plane full! I was surprised as I wrongly assumed that with all systems go prepared for the 21st, travel to the UK from India would be banned unless you are returning home to quarantine or had an emergency family/business issue to attend to. WTF is flying in from a scientifically proven covid varient hot spot still allowed when we're preparing to free ourselves from bondage? Also how come the USA is never on the red list (of course we all know why, I'm just being sarcastic). Rant over!!!

I think we can't close the border due to some EU rules.
Fuck the EU rules, this is a pandemic!

I’m going to hope this little exchange is supposed to be ironic (in which case it’s quite funny). Just in case it’s not - you do know we left the EU, right? We can’t blame them for the decisions of our government anymore. (And actually the EU attempted to close its borders to us late last year and was heavily criticised for doing so.)

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 04/06/2021 22:43

Hopefully British citizens are allowed to come home?

itsgettingwierd · 04/06/2021 22:43

@lljkk

Delta is already in England & spreading fast. Should rest-world close borders to UK?
Many have 🤣🤣🤣

Seems that as we seem insistent on letting them in here they are insistent on not letting us out to them!

I think that now all those people must hotel quarantine and that flights are now arriving at a separate airport so red list passengers are not standing next to those who haven't travelled to variant hotspots for hours.

Should have happened 14 months ago but I think we are doing better now.

MissChanandlerBong90 · 04/06/2021 22:43

Boarders (bet the spelling police love this!!) Should be closed. The 'Kent' varient came/spread because of this.

Did it? That’s news to me. I thought the Kent variant was, well, the Kent variant.

Are the inverted commas round ‘Kent’ in your post supposed to imply something?

itsgettingwierd · 04/06/2021 22:48

@murbblurb

MN ability to miss the point is spectacular tonight. Sorry, op - as you see there is a high dumbfuck quota who don't recognise reality.
"Dumbfuck quota" is going to become my new mantra Grin

People who cannot spell are not the dumb ones.

It's the people who can only understand the single words spelt in correctly and not the whole paragraph and therefore cannot read and respond to the actual point being made.

I'm dyslexic too OP. Ignore the ignorant fuckers. The don't have the intelligence to understand neuro diversity.

ilovesouthlondon · 04/06/2021 22:53

@itsgettingwierd GrinGrin I wanted to thank murbblurb for that one too but I cant find the original message lool.

Sadly, I don’t think the post you quoted was ironic. They really do walk among us.
Sometimeswinning · 04/06/2021 22:55

@MissChanandlerBong90 yes you're correct. It's not an issue what it's called or where it's from. It is an idea as to why borders should be closed. Not all countries check variants of covid. Britain does.

is that just India? what happens to those returning from Portugal?
Good question but I suppose we should already know the answer to this and it's shocking that we don't!

Haenow · 04/06/2021 23:09

Comments about spelling and grammar are pointless. Most of us understood perfectly well. What I don’t understand is how you said you were aware of the traffic light system, yet seemed baffled about India. Did you think it was green or Amber? That would make more sense. Otherwise, I’m confused AF!

ilovesouthlondon · 04/06/2021 23:09

@HelpMeh

Why would you start a long arse rant of a post without even checking if the country is on the red list?

Anyone returning from India has to pay for hotel quarantine. It's diplomatically questionable to lock citizens out of their own country so yes, British passport holders will be returning from India.

As someone who needs to return to the UK very soon (not from India), back to my home, where I live with my husband who I haven't seen since December, I'd rather appreciate the borders remaining open thanks.

I'd appreciate if you read my thread properly thanks. There may be typos but it still clearly talks about people needing to return home or who need to travel for urgent business. Don't let that stop you...

@NannyAndJohn

If Johnson had "followed the science" and closed the borders back in Feb 2020 we'd have been free of restrictions for months now.

Instead we've over 150,000 dead and about to head into another lockdown.

@NannyAndJohn do you think we're heading towards another lockdown because this is what my fear isSad

And then they are on the amber list so can quarantine at home not in a hotel.
ilovesouthlondon · 04/06/2021 23:14

@StoneofDestiny

But India’s on the red list. You do have to quarantine when arriving in the UK from India. In a quarantine hotel. At a cost of £1,750 a person I think

I know people who flew to India with a special visa to get married - then are returning via another country to avoid quarantine costs.
Ridiculous they were allowed to travel - and ridiculous they (and others) can by pass quarantine so easily..

Wow....anxiety back up again...

I think dyslexia is misunderstood by some, my spelling is dreadful but I'm not ill educated.
I understand the difference between border and boarder even if I might misspell either word.

ilovesouthlondon · 04/06/2021 23:33

@TiberiusNero

I get your point but I dont feel foolish at all. I feel better now than before I wrote the post. We didn't get that deep into the conversation my friend is no dim wit. I took the small part that she said, focused on her safety then ran with it as it really worried me, crucially (as you've pointed out) without checking the rules. I find it so depressing, googling covid rules is like a rabbit hole for me.

Do you recognise at all that the way you posted your OP has caused the reaction to it?

My immediate thought (as was that a lot of other posters) upon reading it was ‘FFS, another fucking Daily Mail reading idiot who hasn’t bothered to do any research but has just posted based on what her mate told her.

Not at all as some other posters have said some people on mumsnet just delight in trying to insult others because their unhappy themselves. Others have responded politely, so you see I cant make anyone respond in any particular way. Mumsnet is not an exam so I dont feel foolish about something that I did not know but do know now. There's no reason why you shouldn't discuss a topic on here and come out more informed. As much as some would like me to feel that way (foolish), I just dontSmile and I did not spout things that are not actually happening as people are now saying that some people are avoiding quarantine. It's interesting that some people have created an entire daily fail character out of me lol. Now that is ignorant! No idea how race got into this at all...

Oh, and in response to your weird claim that I’m angry, I’m not at all. I just don’t mind pointing out when people are being thick racist twats.
Racist again...when did that happen? If you're responding to what you regard as a thick, racist twat on a Saturday night what does that make you (apart from lonely)?

I really doubt you have a friend who is a air stewardess. Because most flights operating from UK to India are Airindia, and I’ve never seen a foreign Air hostess in that Airlines. So stop posting xenophobic posts.

The delta variant is even found in China which built a tight monitoring system. UK variant is dominant is USA,Europe and once in India did people start xenophobic comments that time?or accused people from UK? No... then why now ?
