I desperately need to know. Of course we won't until they tell us, but what are your thoughts?

Very mixed opinions in the media. Lots of advice to delay but Boris saying there's nothing he can see that would make us deviate from the roadmap.

Hopefully, all this is explainable and simply normal admissions but with non problematic covid +.

This is why Singapore have closed schools this time as they want to understand more about this variant and how it affects children. They are not just going to risk it like our gov.

SonnetForSpring · 03/06/2021 13:59

Actually, instead of protecting people, our government is suppressing data on school transmission. Yet people still bite for them. Insane.

SonnetForSpring · 03/06/2021 14:00

Vote not bite

pineappleknickers · 03/06/2021 14:54

Boris isn't exactly known for following through on something though @Mrgrinch - can you remember Chrimbo?

I desperately want 21st lifting to happened as we get married in early July, but for the sake of avoiding a third wave and reimposing restrictions, I'd rather wait.

As much as I'd love a fuck off massive wedding party, I never want pub lunches and children's haircuts to be illegal again.

Parents don't care that the government is conducting a herd immunity experiment on our children.

I assume some will care later, when their child misses 18 months of schooling with post viral syndrome, Or it causes infertility or something.

But for now, the apathy is deafening.

vera99 · 03/06/2021 15:31

The implied policy is Vax all over 18s and let kids acquire it naturally. Though they won't come out and state it.

The government wouldn't be hiding the schools data if it was good news, would they?

The government know people will assume that the children who are in hospital with covid right now, or the recent aged 10-19 covid death were children who were already very ill, and that they don't need to worry about their own children catching a new variant we don't know anything about.

Watapalava · 03/06/2021 15:42

Nothing wrong with herd immunity in kids
1/4 - 1/2 already have antibodies
Even cev kids massively low risk

tobee · 03/06/2021 17:45

"I assume some will care later, when their child misses 18 months of schooling with post viral syndrome, Or it causes infertility or something. "

Or just any other scary random side effects you care to make up, eh?

tobee · 03/06/2021 17:46

Maybe people are apathetic coz they don't see it happening on any relatable scale?

tobee · 03/06/2021 17:49

@Needanewhat

Boris spoke only yesterday saying he still sees nothing in the data that would make him deviate.

Boris is lying. The data is literally there for anyone to see.

Even the scientists who are advocating for a delay in June 21st are saying the data is not clear. And may not be until around the 21st. That's part of their concern.

Tumbleweed101 · 03/06/2021 18:21

I need the masks to stop being mandatory. I'd still be willing to put one on in certain circumstances but I find these are putting me off doing anything that might be helpful to the economy or local businesses. Even lockdown had less effect on me than wearing masks has had. I struggle with them a lot.

Needanewhat · 03/06/2021 18:23

So don't wear them. If you suffer mental distress with them to that degree you're exempt.

Masks are here to stay for the forseeable future IMO.

Mrgrinch · 03/06/2021 18:40

Where are the figures for today?

OP posts:
SonnetForSpring · 03/06/2021 18:46

Don't think they have been released yet

Emmelina · 03/06/2021 18:48

No figures for today yet, it’s usually updated at 4pm. Yesterday 4,330 new cases and 12 deaths.

tobee · 03/06/2021 18:57

5,274 cases and 18 deaths

Emmelina · 03/06/2021 18:58

@tobee

5,274 cases and 18 deaths
Ouch.
SonnetForSpring · 03/06/2021 19:07

5274 new cases today and there is evidence of increased chance of hospitalization with delta variant as compared to alpha.

SonnetForSpring · 03/06/2021 19:08

I think its time now to stop ducking around and just put some more restrictions on place so we can avoid another lockdown.

NannyAndJohn · 03/06/2021 19:08

@tobee

5,274 cases and 18 deaths
Fuck.
SonnetForSpring · 03/06/2021 19:11

Boris should be ready now. He's got the wedding out the way and he's has his second jab. So let's see what he says next!

tobee · 03/06/2021 19:17

@SonnetForSpring

Although they did say the Kent variant was more lethal. It wasn't until April that they were able to update and say it wasn't. It's very difficult to work out transmissibility and lethality/virulence. People want immediate information. But that's not realistic.

A huge amount of people will just ignore restrictions if they are reintroduced at this stage. Myself included. Not a chance will I ever stop socialising indoors with family and friends again.
