Why are people still accepting AZ? Will it be stopped?

DH went for his Covid vaccine today. (Under 40 so he got Moderna)

The queue at the vaccine centre was enormous.
The attended in the car park told us they were running behind on appointments and the queue was for second doses.

Dh got chatting to the guy that did his vaccine, he told him that in their vaccination centre they were using moderna for first doses and AZ were all for second.

It’s really surprised me that there’s such a huge uptake of AZ given the risk associated.
I thought by now it would have been stopped.

Are people still happily accepting it?

Just back from having my 2nd AZ dose. There was a steady stream of people also turning up for 2nd dose.

I'll be getting my second dose of AZ too. Yes, there is a tiny risk associated with it. I'm aware of that, but I'm also aware that the risk is significantly lower after the second jab than after the first. And I know that the mortality rate has reduced a bit as they now have a better understanding of how to treat these clots.

Of course, there is a very small risk that I'll be one of the incredibly unlucky people who get one of these clots. There is an even smaller risk that it might kill me. However,, that's a chance that I'm prepared to take because my risk from covid itself is significantly higher. And the vaccine is now a one-off risk for me, whereas the risk from covid would be ongoing.

A few things (again)
The AZ vaccine is highly efficacious & safe. Probably as efficacious as Pfizer & only marginally less safe.
We are so, so lucky to have it, or we would be in an even worse mess.
The clots are not the regular DVT type. If you've had these it's irrelevant to your risk with the AZ vaccine. But not irrelevant to your risk with Covid, so, you know, get the blooming vaccine.

Yes and I would happily have it next time

We are going ahead with our second AZ because our choice is to increase our risk of covid or take the odds with a second AZ. We don't have a third choice ie using another vaccine.
