Yet more chat about novavax, (un)blinding, general vaccine passport stress, approval (please please please) and more.
Those involved in other vaccine trials also welcome.

Regarding novavax we have never been told a date by which it will be sorted.
Update week beginning 7th June is the latest we have...which I’ll be keenly looking out for. @andadietcoke nothing has changed that I can see.

Increasingly I’m not so worried about my “status” but with how protected I am.
We don’t have any info as to how effective novavax is against the Indian variant which is apparently now dominant. And it could well be that it was 8 months ago now that I got it. I think I’d want to be unblinded first but if I got the real thing in October that makes me very twitchy.

The other side of the storey is of course that I had a 50% chance of being protected back in October, when hardly anyone else was, and at the time it was still 100% worth doing.

@andadietcoke
I think the 10 weeks bit is misleading. My dh has his second booked with an 8 week gap and there are walk in sites popping up now in GM, i slicing Stockport, where you can get your first or second shot done without appointment, as long as it’s a three week plus gap. I think there will be more of these as the push to get everyone vaccinated ASAP ramps up. So I suspect if we really need to we will be able to get two doses within a month.

I do think it will somehow sort itself out either with approval or some other way in July or august but that doesn’t really help with the anxiety in the meantime does it!

I've looked into an NHS vaccine.

I could get them both 12th June then 7th August but Kos are saying you need to have had the second dose 14 days before travel to not have to test.

We are going to Kos (hopefully ) on the 14th August.

I'll just have to pay for the tests. You still have to pay for tests for the return journey anyway. £60 with TUI

I'm just going to stick it out now with Novavax.

Email from Leeds:

Please accept my apologies for sending you a further update on this issue so quickly after my last email. This is a fast moving situation and we have just received a statement from the Government on the issue.

Government statement on vaccine certification and clinical trial participation
Issued 28 May 2021

“Clinical trials of Covid-19 vaccinations are critical for responding to COVID-19. They are a global public health good. Those who are taking part in them are creating great benefit for the rest of the world.

Being in a COVID-19 vaccine trial, in either active or placebo arm, should not disadvantage you, and the Government intend to take any action available to ensure that this is the case.

The Government will ensure that information on those in clinical trials vaccine is linked to mechanisms to demonstrate your vaccine status to ensure that anyone on a vaccine clinical trial can prove they are in a clinical trial and therefore should be treated as vaccinated.

The Government position is that a vaccine should not be a requirement for travel at this time. This is aligned to the current WHO approach to international travel. Discussions are on going with other countries, including through groups such as the G7, the EU Commission, and the WHO to shape the approach taken around the world to sharing health status for travel, including vaccination status. As a global public health good, the UK Government will make the case that anyone on a COVID-19 vaccine trial should be treated the same in terms of certification as someone who has received a deployed vaccine.

We appreciate that even for participants not currently planning to travel, qualifying for vaccine certification is important and we do not want any trial participants to be disadvantaged, nor to feel disadvantaged. Everyone is committed to getting this issue sorted out as quickly as possible and NIHR will provide a further update in the week beginning 7 Junee. The latest information including updated FAQs is available on the Be Part of Research website https://bepartofresearch.nihr.ac.uk/Vaccine-studies/Latest-vaccine-news/index

Best wishes,
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, COVID-19 Vaccine Research Delivery Team

I’m on the Com-Cov trial and have received the same email today.

Evenstar · 01/06/2021 14:40

I haven’t had an email, but got a record of vaccination after Jab 4 last week, my GP has said they are happy to add a copy of that to my file and also for me to decline the NHS vaccine. I am not too worried about the app as I have no plans to travel abroad, hopefully the vaccine will be approved soon and it will all be resolved.

Comcov2 people have had the same letter.

Torvean · 02/06/2021 11:36

Thanks for posting the email @PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears. I haven't had that sent by the clinic.

As far as I'm aware the blood tests are for antibodies as they check them at certain times after vaccinations.

I'm still 100% sure Novavax will get approved.

Frazzled2207 · 02/06/2021 11:57

Ladies
It's come to my attention that some people from the novavax facebook group have now seen this thread and some have been offended with what has been said.
Obviously it's not my business to moderate what is said on here, but like I say some have apparently been offended. Let's all just bear in mind that at the end of the day, unlike the closed facebook group, ANYONE can read what is posted on here. Luckily I think (?) we're all broadly in agreement with each other, and I'm hoping to keep the bunfights off this thread at least.

That's actually made me laugh.

We need to remember if we are infiltrated by them not to feed them!

Dignified silence is always the best bet!

Novavax have said they're about to release their US trial data I think.
Torvean · 05/06/2021 21:10

UMM our group existed before theirs.
I don't want to hear any more talk of antibody checks and every time they get money. I never told them about this place.

Anti-vaxxers won't like this. I think its great

I am on the Novavax trial, and have had all 4 injections. Checked on mygp app today and finally have my green tick vaccine status. But it says second dose was December 2020. Does this mean that my first set of injections were the real ones, or have they just put the first set of dates for everyone? (I am still blinded)

It's you own GP surgery app? Not the NHS app?
coffeeandchoc · 06/06/2021 17:29

@BG2015 it's the official nhs green tick ( the app is called mygp)

JustMeAndWheatley · 06/06/2021 18:05

I went onto the NHS app earlier as part of my daily obsessional checking to see if my vaccination status has been updated. I got a pop up message that my GP practice have changed to using the myGP app and I needed to consent to that and register and log in. I’ve done that and everything else is there but it still says I haven’t been vaccinated. I had Janssen in January and March.
