Yet more chat about novavax, (un)blinding, general vaccine passport stress, approval (please please please) and more.
Those involved in other vaccine trials also welcome.

That's what I've been told - that I need to withdraw from the trial first. But also that they will bring forward the final appointment and that they have the data they need at this stage. So I am dropping out and getting the approved vaccine next week.

Monkeygirl68 · 30/09/2021 13:52

What happens if you’ve been invited for the flu jab? I’ve got mine booked for next week, and I remember in the original documentation that we had that we had to notify them if we were having the flu jab. I’m not notifying them, and can’t be bothered with the fiasco of doing so, as I feel I haven’t been communicated to throughout this whole process……most of the necessary information I’ve found from this thread!

Torvean · 30/09/2021 14:10

@Monkeygirl68 I'm not sure if you need permission for the flu vacc. Last year they were fine if you had it as long as it was not less than 5 weeks before your vaccination.

@KeepingOnKeepingUp I've emailed the lead study to clarify the situation.
My appt isn't til November which means I'd get my flu vaccination late again due to this stupid trial.

I was speaking to my Gp surgery yesterday, and I said I wish I hadn't taken part. They told me at least if I had 2 further vaccinations I'd be well covered for Covid , and I should remember I did it with good intentions and I should focus on that.... Seriously?

Torvean · 30/09/2021 14:12

Hey @CardinalCat you've been DM

Torvean · 30/09/2021 15:12

Just told that now the clinic won't provide the NIHR letter to support ppl getting 2 vaccine as the JCVI and NHS are now discussing the best options ....
Yet 3 weeks ago the clinic were saying to get NHS vaccines.

How can this trial be worse than it already is.

Oh and apparently Novavax are the ppl saying you have to leave the study if you get another vaccine. After 13 months of our unpaid service.

KeepingOnKeepingUp · 30/09/2021 17:38

There is so much variation. That is the thing I find most surprising.
I went along for the end of trial visit today. Was very low-key – a couple of questions, was unblinded (I had the vaccine last year, which was what I had assumed from the side effects), and they took some blood. Short chat about Novavax (essentially, it’s safe and effective and this is all to do with manufacturing issues, and yes, full agreement that it is very frustrating) Then I got a letter confirming I’d left the trial and could have an approved vaccine. I trotted round the corner (literally) to the hospital vaccine clinic, got a walk in appointment on the spot, and they knew exactly what to do about the fact I already had two vaccines on my record. Jabbed with Pfizer, waited 15 minutes, made an appointment for the second in four weeks time and left. All very straightforward.

Stillmuddlingthrough · 30/09/2021 18:02

Hi @KeepingOnKeepingUp that is interesting. Is it possible to share the letter (with names scribbled out of course) - I know some people have been told they can’t get an approved vaccine so it might be v really helpful. Also I thought it was 8 weeks for jab2? Has the protocol changed?

Torvean · 30/09/2021 19:19

Hey @KeepingOnKeepingUp is there a variance on times between visits? I was told its 8 weeks.

So I'm just off the phone with KB , I think I've turned into a fan girl.

Basically we are all screwed and will need to get 2 more vaccines.

She's going to email me some stuff. She said I can share it so I'll put up when I get it.

She's been at No.10 today and has a conference with NIHR in Oct

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 30/09/2021 19:43

Sorry @Torvean who’s KB? When you say we’re all screwed, do you mean that approval isn’t going to be granted?
I haven’t been contacted by the trial yet for final appointment but I have had my flu jab.

Torvean · 30/09/2021 19:53

I'll dm you @JosephineDeBeauharnais

Torvean · 30/09/2021 21:26

Just in case I've panicked anyone I'm not saying Novavax won't get an EUA in the UK.

KeepingOnKeepingUp · 30/09/2021 22:03

They said 4 weeks for Novavax volunteers. The clinic is right next to the trial centre so they've obviously worked something out. No idea how!

I will try and upload a photo tomorrow of the letter. Am in bed with a sore arm right now and the beginnings of shivers. Think it was inevitable, though.

KeepingOnKeepingUp · 01/10/2021 06:52

Letter here. I didn't need to show it at the vaccine centre, though. And they did say it would not be easy getting it done elsewhere, so strongly recommended I went to the place next door.

Dreamer1989 · 01/10/2021 08:46

@torvean unless this is Scotland specific, could you DM me too please? I am worried that I need to be rejabbed

Woventabby · 01/10/2021 08:52

@KeepingOnKeepingUp Glad to hear that you managed to get the deployed vaccine. Thank you for sharing the letter. I have to admit I am surprised and impressed by the "I will assume clinical responsibility for this" bit. It is very brave of them.

Torvean · 01/10/2021 09:20

@Dreamer1989 I've sent you a message.

gazzaconns · 01/10/2021 09:53

Guys, are we going to need thread number 4 soon?

Torvean · 01/10/2021 10:29

I think we might I'm not sure how to do it. I think @Frazzled2207 used to fo this, but I'm not sure if she is still active here.

So the information I got ftom KB by email today is good news regarding the actual Novavax vaccine itself.

Here's a press release from Novavax from 6 Aug regarding boosters.

ir.novavax.com/2021-08-05-Novavax-Announces-COVID-19-Vaccine-Booster-Data-Demonstrating-Four-Fold-Increase-in-Neutralizing-Antibody-Levels-Versus-Peak-Responses-After-Primary-Vaccination

The second link is a series of data slides about the vaccine /booster trials etc. She said the most relevant slides are from slide 38-45. By the way this link tales a while to load up but it does work.
