Yet more chat about novavax, (un)blinding, general vaccine passport stress, approval (please please please) and more.
Those involved in other vaccine trials also welcome.

I'm not calling you an SNP militant. It was supposed to say

  • you know SNP militants...

@Frazzled2207

Best of luck *@Torvean*

Final Moderna side effects update for @andadietcoke after 48 hours other than slightly sore arm I am fine. I know I seem to get side effects less bad than you do, but for me 2nd Moderna was slightly but not significantly less bad than 1st. Managed lunch at inlaws today and Bil gleefully told me he had zero side effects with his Moderna.

Thank you!! Glad you're all done and none of it was too terrible. I'll see if I can maybe go to Eastlands on the Saturday morning - I think that's my only other option. But then if I do have bad side effects again...

@Frazzled2207 have rebooked for HG civic centre the same morning straight after the school run so it'll buy me a bit more recovery time and hopefully they're better organised than Woodley. It'll all be a lot easier and feel happier going to the same place. I was planning to lie, but now wondering whether I need to.

Torvean · 06/09/2021 10:35

Good luck @andadietcoke.

Can we remove consent from Novavax storing our blood for 25 years, to use on future tests.

I'm sick of their lack of integrity, Nd refusal to communicate.

Pleased to hear. I thought it had closed tbh! Couldn’t get an appointment there despite wanting to. They told me they were closing at the end of august but possibly now stayed open just not open every day.
They were nice and well organised there last time. X

Yes, you can, they have to destroy the sample. Ask for confirmation that they have done so.

Stillmuddlingthrough · 06/09/2021 21:05

Has anyone successfully got an approved vaccine once their novavax is showing on the nhs app? If so did the app update to show the new ones? Wish I had refused consent for the data upload now.

mine was never uploaded but I think if you go to a small pharmacy walk in like i did (I didn't walk in but others did) I think unlikely they access your records. They use a system that uploads to the main vaccine database ( have volunteered in vaccine centres so am a bit familiar) at the end of a session. If successful your app will then show your 1st and 3rd vaccine which is deeply unhelpful but all four vaccines will be on your record. After that you can a. call 119 and ask for a letter to be sent which shows either your approved or all four vaccines and/or b. ask your GP to 'archive' the novavax vaccines which should make the app work. People on the facebook group have had success with the walk in pharmacy method (albeit you may have to lie) as well as a and b.

Thank you so much - that is really helpful!

Torvean · 07/09/2021 04:15

Thank you @Cookerhood, I'm seriously considering this. Novavax must be the most incompetent and uncommunicative pharmaceutical company. And I resent the fact they refuse to pay any regard to UK volunteers. How unlucky are we that we ended up with Novavax.
At least the FDA have finally stopped giving them money for trials and told them to produce data.

And the 3/4 is almost over. My clinic say they've filed .MHRA will only say they've submitted rolling data, no timeline for approval.

I did a phone interview with a journalist yesterday afternoon. Seemed positive. Asked what I hope the article would do I said a decision to give us passports and stop making us isolate as if unvaccinated.
I also said that NS does not get to make the decision on who is/is not disadvantaged.

@CardinalCat this is not definite yet. But I have a friend that has connections to a journalist in Glasgow. Would you be happy to speak to them?

I was able to use a partial name. And I refused the photographer coming round also. I still want some anonymity. They were accepting of that.

The journalist said she would write something. If it appears I'll post a photo as it's a NE Scotland journalist, but she writes for 3 papers.

I also by luck chatting in a science group on fb , had someone from Australia offer to sign the petition. She's going to share it with her colleagues who are all scientists/medics/research

I didn't expect to embarrassed NS and her govt in multiple countries

Torvean · 07/09/2021 04:20

Ps if you want to see NS claim we are not a disadvantage watch this from PM question time last week. Go to minute 18.

She's spouted this same statement since June. She has only thanked volunteers when directly questioned about trial volunteers. Even BJ did better than that.

Frazzled2207 · 07/09/2021 09:00

@Torvean
It's disgraceful
however hopefully having an MSP on the case will help as surely he will be as frustrated as the rest of us

OP posts:
Torvean · 07/09/2021 09:08

@Frazzled2207 I've tried my local MSP times, he forwards it to the minister for Covid and they reply the same thing they've said since June. " We are working on this, and vaccine volunteers are not dissadvsntaged".

Just not true, but most of the press and even other Scottish leaders refuse to talk out about NS and her govt,

At the end of July the NIHR confirmed that we could have another deployed vaccine but I can’t find this article now- I don’t suppose anyone has it bookmarked? Thanks

Yes it was only up there for a few days then taken away.

I have a screenshot of it that I can send you if you'd like it? I had it to use when I went for my first dose just in case.
Stillmuddlingthrough · 07/09/2021 10:37

@andadietcoke that would be great if you could- thank you.

Cookerhood · 07/09/2021 10:49

It was in the FAQs. Has it really vanished? What on earth do they expect people to do? I'm pretty sure my site (ComCov2) said the same but I may be mis-remembering. They certainly said it in person but maybe not in the email. I'll check.

Monkeygirl68 · 07/09/2021 13:12

What’s going to happen if (and it’s probably likely) Novavax doesn’t get approved and the eligibility for a booster vaccine? Will they say that we are not eligible unless we have previously had an approved vaccine?

its a genuine worry but I don't think anybody knows the answer to that until their age group gets formally 'called' for a booster and nobody has yet.

however as we have, at least domestically, our novavax on the national vaccine record I would very much that we are treated like everyone else. But of course if we had it in autumn last year then it will take longer than ideal for us to have them. The upshot is that we were protected last winter when they weren't, I suppose.

Closed hubs where I live, only vaccinating 16-18s. Drop in at a later date.
So I can't go anywhere to get one.

On the other hand our famous knighted Novavax fellow volunteers gave me details to a UK journalist who interviewed her.

So it might happen this week.

Oh and the registry who have admitted in writing that we won't get registered without EUA , have now said apparently nhs vaccines and trial volunteers have to be added to different website.
Amazing how England only needed 1 app.
I told them my thoughts, and I doubt I'll get a reply on that.

Oh and passports apparently being voted on are already decided. I got this yesterday.

Pfizer dose 1 done. Such a shame. The drop in did have the info but the name of the vaccine was missing for dose 2. I might have lied a bit about that dose and they put it through as first vaccine. They just had to write why they were giving it and they put that the double dose wasn’t completed so needed to start again. I was a bit worried they would say no. No detailed questions asked at all.

oh well done for managing. I know many people have tried to get approved vaccines and been turned away. Hope the side effects are ok for you. there is anecdotal evidence that mixing vaccines gets you slightly worse side effects though with large time gaps I'm not sure it matters much.

Yes just sore arm today - see what tomorrow brings!

Torvean · 09/09/2021 12:34

So the clinic today told me Novavax will probably get approval in November but that's not guaranteed.
Nice of Novavax to change the date without informing us.

And when I questioned them on what happens yo us since we are not entitled to Covid passports. I was told maybe I should consider getting an NHS vaccine as I sounded "distressed".

I'm not distressed I'm just angry.
Oh and I plan to leave Scotland within 2 months. So I can't get 1 vaccine in Scotland and another in England.

It seems noone gives a shit.
