Yet more chat about novavax, (un)blinding, general vaccine passport stress, approval (please please please) and more.
Those involved in other vaccine trials also welcome.

Spoke to soon. Checked my details on the NHS app this morning to find I now have 1 Novavax and 1 AZ showing on both Domestic and Travel passes. Have emailed trial centre.

Frazzled2207 · 29/08/2021 22:03

Hello again
Been away for a while, pleased no major dramas though there seems little progress either

@QueenAnnesHat
Urgh I think this has happened a lot and is causing a lot of issues - apparently the app shows your first and last jab whatever they were, - there is going to have to be some kind of technical fix for this with boosters looming for some.
I think I was very lucky in asking stockport - just before they did so - NOT to upload my novavax data to the app. So I just have one moderna showing. But I have a working domestic pass too which is something. Not quite sure how.

@NotMrsTumble
That is very good to hear as I have Moderna part 2 coming up this Friday and was dreading it tbh. Am thinking of delaying for another week just because I have a lot on next weekend. Was kind of hoping that if novavax gets approved I might not have to but now it's such a long time ago that I got it, and there is so much covid about (I have a high risk job) that it probably is the best course of action even putting aside all the approval trauma.

@BG2015 sorry to hear and it does sound like there could be a link doesn't it? Hope it reverses itself though.

Quite a lot of positive rumours on the facebook site and on balance I think likely it will be approved in the UK and possibly EMA and WHO in September or October. But would not put any money on it.

With my second moderna looming I'm now a bit less stressed and more at peace with it all. Hopefully it will be eventually approved and will be put to good use but life goes on and no regrets whatsoever about seeking an approved vaccine even if I did have to lie. We've generally been treated appallingly by novavax, the government and ultimately the trial sites too (though I do think the latter have acted in good faith overall).

@Frazzled2207 thankfully I seem to have had no noticeable side effects from moderna #2, and I have been super vigilant given dd is currently covid +ve.

Frustratingly in a bizarre situation now as on Wednesday DH and I (healthcare, Scotland) were able to end self isolation - and go clubbing if we like- following negative pcr, but both unable to return to work as dd counted as continuing/household exposure.

From yesterday (Sat), following policy change, DH is able to return to work as he's more than 2 weeks post vaccine. However, my nvax (x2, nov 20) doesn't count as its not an approved vaccine (remember, we weren't to be disadvantaged?!) and I am not 14 days post my second moderna, so work will just have to cope 🤷🏻‍♀️

Frazzled2207 · 29/08/2021 23:37

Oh dear. I’m in England but as far as I was aware if double jabbed with novavax we are able to avoid all self isolation if a close contact. I am assuming so anyway!! The letter we got confirmed that we are, domestically, “fully vaccinated”.
Scottish seem to have messed things up even more than the English for us lot

QueenAnnesHat · 30/08/2021 07:06

@Frazzled2207 - that’s the thing - like you, I had spoken to, and emailed, my trial centre to withdraw my consent for them to upload my info to the NHS, and I had written confirmation from them that they would not do so. Both my AZ vaccinations were showing on the app until a couple of days ago, and now it’s changed to one Novavax and one AZ, so I assume that they have not done what they said they would.

Frazzled2207 · 30/08/2021 10:35

Oh that’s rubbish. Let us know what they say.
I do believe that even if the app is not showing correctly there should be no issue getting a paper copy showing your “approved” vaccines. That is the case in England anyway.

There's a moderna bus coming to a town that's close to my village tomorrow and I am {holds thumb and forefinger one inch apart}

I'm sorry to butt in on this thread but just wondering if we have any indication of if and when Novavax will be available in the UK? I'm struggling to find any info. Just "4th quarter".

Apologies if this is insensitive of me to ask here.

I don’t think it will be available here in a widespread way tbh. See also J&J, approved some time ago but nobody can get it. It would make sense for any supply to be diverted to countries where they still have loads to vaccinate.

WomaninBoots · 31/08/2021 21:27

Yes. But it will be approved for use at some point. That's all I'm asking, whether we know when that will be yet.

WomaninBoots · 31/08/2021 21:31

Damn used wrong name. Never mind! Shock

Grin

I'm just wondering that's all. If it might be used for boosters etc. As it has such good results seemingly.

andadietcoke · 31/08/2021 22:11

@WomaninBoots we're expecting MHRA authorisation in the next few months. They'd originally said Q3 but that's looking unlikely for approval - it may be submitted by the end of the month though.

WomaninBoots · 31/08/2021 23:01

Thank you.

Torvean · 01/09/2021 14:02

My clinic told me they'd filed in July and Novavax were just adding is some extra files.

Hey @CardinalCat here's a reply from the Scottish govt person answering Covid Qs as you can see they have refused to say why we are not on the website, but apparently we are getting an official letter this month. And we are not disadvantaged according to them. I took a screen shot. I hope its legible.

Ps. If anyone would like to tell Novavax of your experience and you're on LinkedIn

Post here

If you don't have a profile just make one up.

Torvean · 01/09/2021 14:49

Sorry I'm spamming now. I just hot a call from my study site to say Novavax have 100% applied for MHRA approval here.

NotMrsTumble · 01/09/2021 17:51

@Torvean absolutely disadvantaged here. Healthcare worker in Scotland with positive household member. Guidance changed yesterday to say that if you have -ve pcr and daily negative lateral flow and are two weeks post second dose of approved vaccine you can end self isolation and go to work. I even queried this with public health. Apparently, for these purposes, I am classed as unvaccinated. DH can go to work. I can't. How is that me not being disadvantaged domestically? Bloody wish I'd caved and had moderna sooner.

Torvean · 01/09/2021 19:03

It's awful @NotMrsTumble.
Today I emailed the MHRA to find out if Novavax have applied for EUA.
I spoke to Covid helpline about being registered they blamed MY gp. I called my gp, and I think I'm the only vaccine trial participant so they're looking I into it. But they mentioned it might be that they don't have the code.

I replied to the letter ftom my MSP saying that the reply doesn't answer the Qs I asked. And we are disadvantaged the minute we leave Scotland. Novavax obviously don't care. The clinic can't do anything it's crap.

I want to remove my consent to Novavax storing my samples.
We can't just get an NHS vaccine. I feel between the govt and Novavax we've been screwed over.

They're getting a few comments from trial ppl as in America the CDC means they're counted as vaccinated 2 weeks after vaccination. They don't care about us.

I was so excited to help with a vaccine, I know feel pissed off and used.

That’s bloody insane
In England we definitely still count for these purposes, the biggest issue for us which fortunately doesn’t affect me is that since uploading the data to the app- in many cases against our wishes- those of us who now want an approved vaccine just can’t. And if you already had one it shows that you have one of each which is pretty useless.

It’s a colossal mess and I have zero faith now that the app issues will be sorted, ever. Weeks ago somebody from nhs digital was supposed to be sorting this out.

Torvean · 01/09/2021 22:38

I remember the first clinic. The 1 promise they made was we would not be at a disadvantage compared to those who got an NHS vaccine.

Well that's definitely not happened.

Torvean · 02/09/2021 01:20

I apologise in advance for spamming this thread.

But did anyone else know about Novavax and NI study?

At least when they're told it'll probably be released I'm next 3 months it might be accurate.

BG2015 · 02/09/2021 07:29

I've had one AZ vaccine, second is on Sunday.

I'm going to the theatre next weekend (11th) and they want proof of vaccination. Obviously the second will be less than 14 days.

I really can't be bothered to explain the Novavax farce.

The domestic covid pass - will that show just the one AZ vaccine ive had when it's scanned? I'm totally confused.

I do have the option of doing a LFT too

Frazzled2207 · 02/09/2021 08:15

@BG2015
I don’t think it matters tbh.
Mine was working before I got my Moderna and doesn’t seem to have changed since.
In your shoes I’d do an LFT beforehand too just in case. Although ridiculous that you should have to.
