Yet more chat about novavax, (un)blinding, general vaccine passport stress, approval (please please please) and more.
Those involved in other vaccine trials also welcome.

@NotMrsTumble can you please let us know how you get on with your second dose? I had a very similar experience to you with my first Moderna, and I’m a bit hesitant to get the second, because it’s supposed to be worse. This was definitely true for my DH.

NotMrsTumble · 09/08/2021 20:29

@QueenOfThorns will do. I'm kind of of the thought that I've come this far, if I don't get a second approved dose then there was no point, as my main motivation was getting approved vaccine for travel. I've also heard lots of anecdotal evidence of people only reacting to one dose, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

andadietcoke · 09/08/2021 22:55

I'm another one that was really ill with dose one of Moderna. Not sure I could feel worse tbh so although I'll approach dose 2 with some trepidation I know it's survivable!

Saying that though, there was a point about 24h in where I couldn't believe I'd voluntarily put myself through this when I was already vaccinated. It'll totally be worth it if / when I get to go on proper holiday though!

QueenAnnesHat · 10/08/2021 06:37

I had my second AZ yesterday and now have both AZ vaccinations showing on the travel pass on the NHS App, having withdrawn my consent for the trial team to share my data before they uploaded full details of my Novavax shots to the NHS.
The Domestic section still shows the pass as an exemption. Not sure if this will change, but I'm not too bothered about that.

andadietcoke · 10/08/2021 09:06

Yay @QueenAnnesHat that's great news. I did the same in terms of consent (I don't even have a domestic pass) so hopefully smooth at the end of September.

Torvean · 13/08/2021 03:27

@CardinalCat I emailed my centre after I was not added by last Friday. They apogised and said they'd been told we were all added , but now it's apparently being fine in groups.

No idea what groups as only 2 Scotland sites were involved in Novavax.
They've said they'll email me again when they know we are definitely on.

Another week on and I'm still not on.
Frustrating but this seems positive... www.ft.com/content/c86af449-9ed7-4358-a17e-04aeb13e1859?fbclid=IwAR2RiosLl-1U56cpeIVAtIbpFfbHgNFKzr16d9MnTvLSOmsbukvi1Mpvg00
I can't access this. What's the main points in it.

Cookerhood · 13/08/2021 10:29

I'm on the ComCov2 study & had my blind broken yesterday so that I can get the vaccine passport. I now have both vaccinations showing which is a relief.

Which vaccines did you get?
Cookerhood · 14/08/2021 16:41

AZ & Moderna

Cookerhood · 15/08/2021 09:39

Looks like bad news for anyone on ComCov or ComCov2 :(

Ah, looks as though trial participants are exempt

Novavax trial thread number 3
Dreamer1989 · 19/08/2021 11:40

Anyone heard anything from their trial site? Sweet F all here, doesnt help the worry. I really dont think this vaccine is going to get approved in the UK. Realistically, where does this leave us?

KerningBurnHole · 19/08/2021 12:21

I was determined to stay with the program to the bitter end. But my novavax still not showing on the app. On speaking to my GP surgery, they've been given incorrect dates of vaccination. So yesterday I made the unilateral decision to get a deployed vaccine. Not many sides effects (other than a tiny bit of guilt)

Vargas · 19/08/2021 17:29

@Dreamer1989 Just wondering what the issue is for people if UK don't approve it?

It affects me because I can't travel to Canada until the Canadians approve it, but just wondered what the UK not approving it means for others? Sorry if I'm being dim, but I have had no issues with using the app to go to Wimbledon or to a concert and I will be using it to go to Greece (hopefully!) soon.

MrsHamlet · 19/08/2021 19:47

I'm on the app and I got an exciting parcel of new swabs yesterday. God know what's happening with approval though.

Torvean · 20/08/2021 03:08

I've been told that they've supplied for approval in the UK. It takes at least 5 weeks to go through the data.

I think it will get UK approval followed by EU approval. They've got pretty big orders from Korea too , so there must be confidence.

Torvean · 24/08/2021 02:58

3 weeks on and no record for me. And news from you @CardinalCat.

Taking the piss now. I wrote to the health secretary, NS,the secretary who answers for NS plus the Scottish MHRA. Did not get a reply from any.

CardinalCat · 24/08/2021 21:20

Same here @Torvean
An absolute joke. According to the lead doctor at my site, it's the Scottish government who have identified a data protection issue with the way that the information is purportedly getting shared from trial sites and the central database. I have no idea why it's an issue in Scotland and not in England where exactly the same data protection laws apply, and yet they've managed to link up data to their nhs app. Further, I don't see why they don't write to every trial volunteer to ask for them to waive their rights in respect of this data transfer- to be honest, when we signed the protocol/trial contract, I thought we were submitting to this kind of data processing anyway! Nothing the Scottish government does surprises me any more - it's almost like they're trying to find obstacles. Very frustrating.

Torvean · 24/08/2021 21:34

I'm beyond pissed at them. And now the clinic staff don't give a . Why should I pay to call Novavax??

NotMrsTumble · 25/08/2021 18:41

Second moderna 9.30 am today and now dd has +ve lft. (her second jab was less than 7 days ago) PCRs all done and we await results....
Everyone else testing - ve on LFTs for now 🤞🤞.
No reaction from moderna yet other than slight swelling and tenderness at the injection site, most certainly trauma from the needle rather than reaction.

QueenAnnesHat · 26/08/2021 07:53

So yesterday my domestic pass changed from an exemption to showing both my AZ vaccinations, together with the results from the last few lateral flow tests I did for work. Not sure why, but very pleased.
BG2015 · 26/08/2021 18:09

I had my first AZ jab on the 11/7.
For the past 5 weeks my asthma has got worse and worse.

I've been to see the asthma nurse and she asked me is anything different. I said no, but driving home I realised that the vaccine is the only thing I can think of.

NotMrsTumble · 27/08/2021 18:22

@QueenOfThorns 55+ hours after second moderna and no ill-effects to speak of, only standard post injection tenderness at the site. DD is starting to feel much better and we are all still all testing - ve on LFTs after our - ve PCRs. Hopefully she's succeeding in keeping the Covid lurgy to herself 🤞🤞

QueenOfThorns · 27/08/2021 19:06

@NotMrsTumble thanks for letting me know! Mine is due from next Tuesday, but DH is going away on Thursday, so I’ve booked my appointment for the following Friday, just in case.

Glad your DD is feeling better!
