Yet more chat about novavax, (un)blinding, general vaccine passport stress, approval (please please please) and more.
Those involved in other vaccine trials also welcome.

I'm still not on it. So hoping today or tomorrow. They absolutely guaranteed it would be this week in their email.

Monkeygirl68 · 05/08/2021 08:22

I’ve got the travel pass, not the domestic! 😂

Lwoj · 05/08/2021 11:14

I’m on the valneva trial. They said it would be updated by end of July. Will email them again. I’m just sick of chasing.

Cookerhood · 05/08/2021 11:40

I've been on to the NHS App people, the NIHR & the site. Nothing yet. I plan to have another vaccination in the second half of August. I presume it has to be AZ.

Are you over 40? I am and found a Moderna only vax centre so got that. I don’t have any worries about efficacy of Az and am not worried about blood clots but I don’t know anyone who hasn’t been quite poorly after having it. That said I’ve heard Moderna 2nd dose can be quite unpleasant. I can’t complain though as I had zero side effects with novavax.

You have to be over 55 to be in ComCov2 Grin.
I had my first on the NHS so I'm more than happy to have AZ again. Quite fancy the mix & match approach though!

andadietcoke · 05/08/2021 13:46

I had Moderna too - but same centre as @Frazzled2207. No discussion - 'you're here for your first dose of Moderna' was the statement when I was checked in!

Finally it is all on the app for me. However we are getting very very concerned about husband. He had his first and second jabs in September and October last year so coming up to a year. He goes back to the hospital in October for his final trial appointment but there has been no talk of a booster. He was one of the first to get the vaccine here (his trial number is 0010) and he was the 2nd appt on the first day the trial hub opened. We have emailed and they say they don't know what is going on about boosters etc..... but he is getting worried.

QueenOfThorns · 06/08/2021 16:57

Ooooh, I just got this in an email:

“ Good afternoon from your Stockport Novavax research team,

This won’t be our usual full update as we are still awaiting further information, which we hope to get out on Monday/ Tuesday next week. One good bit of news for those of you who have received Novavax…

Novavax will be offering to reimburse for PCR tests if you wish to travel to another country where additional PCR tests are required. Further details on how many tests they will cover and reimbursement fee amounts will follow once we have the full details. The proposal is going through national ethics review at the moment and there will be a full briefing letter to follow.

We will be in touch again next week.”

Frazzled2207 · 06/08/2021 20:46

Indeed had it too. Clearly they are worried about people dropping out now.

That said I’m not sure how much it helps practically. Some nations, including Spain, officially take PCRs instead of approved vaccinations. Most countries need approved vaccinations. But I’ve heard that some airlines going to Spain insist on double approved vacc.

It’s a helpful gesture, but ideally the stuff needs to be approved.

On a more helpful note the EU has finally confirmed a huge order for it (300m doses) and novavax has put in its EMA and WHO application which is very promising. Approval in India should come soonish too. But bad news is it’s been further delayed in the US, now Q4. They are very slow in the US though, still not approved AZ and apparently resources are held up with getting full (as opposed to emergency) approval through for Pfizer etc.
Approval for UK, India, possibly WHO and EMA, still apparently on track for “September”.

This is good news. I’d really like it to be approved for Canada but I can’t get in anyway at the moment as I’m
not a Canadian citizen - but have relatives I’d like to see. That plus European approvals would be good. Agree that the PCR test is a nice extra but doesn’t really help alleviate the stress of travelling. We were due to go to Wales on Sunday but DS has been called by Test and Trace so that is off. I’d love a holiday so much!

Torvean · 07/08/2021 02:01

Did you get your vaccines added @CardinalCat. Mine are not there. So much for this week....

Torvean · 07/08/2021 02:04

@ItsSnowJokes my centre have pretty much said we won't be getting a booster.

I had a really early October appt. And though I'm still blinded I'm sure I got the vaccine first time round.

Its so wrong. He is getting tempted now to get an official vaccine as he is expected back in the office with thousands of students (big uni) in September. And coming into winter when the shit could hit the fan again with numbers and he will be over a year from vaccine. He is still blinded but he defo had vaccine 1st time around not on the crossover. I had it second time around I am sure from side effects.

NotMrsTumble · 07/08/2021 17:21

Finally found you all!

Scotland seems to be even further behind England with digital passports etc. I caved at the end of June and got an approved vaccine. Was worried about a) being able to prove I had had double dose for eg domestic events b) being the reason we as a family can't go abroad on holiday next year if Novavax still not approved and c) potential decreasing protection in the face of a spiralling delta wave at that time. (yes, I had to lie through my teeth to get it. If I thought someone would have had a sensible conversation with me about the risk/benefit then I would have been happy to do that, but I doubt that would have happened going on other people's experiences of being turned away).

Reaction (moderna) was pretty rotten in that I got covid arm, which took a week to resolve, and had a couple of days of high temps, fatigue and general bleurgh. I will inform the trial team once I have had my second dose in a couple of weeks time.

Feel that the participants have been kept completely in the dark despite the promises that we wouldn't be disadvantaged (and I made a point of asking this at my initial and subsequent appointments).

Hopefully whatever app the Scottish gov comes up with will show more than one vaccine given we have been talking about autumn boosters for the vulnerable and healthcare workers for several weeks now.

CardinalCat · 07/08/2021 18:29

Absolutely nothing showing on my page! And despite being 'promised 100%' that a trial doctor would phone me last week (which promise they have now made and broken 5 weeks in a row) to discuss un-blinding and taking a deployed vax, did my phone ring? Reader: it did not. I'm beyond upset and angry now- I am completely worn down and depressed by the whole thing.
CardinalCat · 07/08/2021 18:31

In better news, my MSP did get back to me to say he's written to the Health Minister (who seems to have his hands full suing nurseries and doing PR on this topic this week). So we shall see if that does anything (no breath-holding taking place over here.....)

ItsSnowJokes · 09/08/2021 12:50

Do we have to contact the trial if a member of the family get covid or is it just if I get symptoms and covid? Child has tested positive and I don't know if I need to tell the trial.

Dreamer1989 · 09/08/2021 15:21

I think its just if you the participant
Gets shmptoms x

Thats what I thought. Husband and myself went for pcr tests this morning after we got the test result (that's what test and trace tell you to do now) so if we are positive I will call them tomorrow.

Is everyone else on this thread now have their novavax showing on their NHS app? Mine is still not sorted.

I have it but husband doesn't. Same trial site so I don't know what's happened there.
starwarspyjamas · 09/08/2021 18:32

I've contacted my trial site, who told me to contact NHS digital- their response today was that it should be resolved by end of July! It's beyond a joke now.

Cookerhood · 09/08/2021 19:27

NHS digital told me to contact my GP Confused
