Yet more chat about novavax, (un)blinding, general vaccine passport stress, approval (please please please) and more.
Those involved in other vaccine trials also welcome.

@Frazzled2207 yep. Which I was kind of prepared for but it does bother me. DH was asked today if he'd had a vaccination in the last 7 days but at his first appt they asked about trials specifically and in writing.

Frazzled2207 · 25/06/2021 15:58

IME (have helped out at a few centres) the actual protocol varies from place to place and some centres according to the FB group have agreed to jab trial participants however I think it's extremely likely that we would be asked and pretty likely that they would refuse unless we said 'no'.

Yes it's definitely one of the things they are supposed to ask before vaccinating. Doesn't mean it always happens but it is a standard question where I vaccinate.

Long article on the bbc this morning.

Good. It's about time the press picked it up.

Frazzled2207 · 26/06/2021 08:37

It is although it’s clearly about a lot more than this chap and his hols (which might well be scuppered for other reasons).
People need to go and work abroad/see family etc. And atm we have no idea if we’ll be able to while all this plays out

Just got my letter (Norwich site). Rather be registered on the app but I suppose its progress!

gazzaconns · 26/06/2021 16:45

Me too, was disappointed they sent this it second class! Or is it me?

Torvean · 27/06/2021 05:30

So the letter ppl are talking about. If your Scottish you might like to know that the Scottish govt have not yet agreed to the letter. So don't go rushing to check your mail.

We all know N.S always wants to do things her own way.

valnevavaxx · 28/06/2021 09:12

Hello all, I'm on the Valneva trial but I thought I'd let you know my experience with the vaccine passport etc.

Since starting the trial in May I have been offered a new job, which will require travel- some of which will be to countries that allow you in for any reason without quarantine but only if you've had an approved vaccination.

I spoke to a nurse on my trial and she said I could be unblinded, and either I'd have had AZ (Valneva slightly different to Novavax as you know you definitely get a vaccine) and I'd be fine, or I'd have had Valneva and could come off the trial and go get an NHS vaccine if I so opted to.

They emailed me the following day to confirm I'd had AZ- great stuff! However... I asked if it could be reflected in my NHS app, but was told that as they are currently not putting vaccine trials in there that I couldn't have it updated to say I've had 2 AZ vaccines. Even though I've had an approved vaccine!

A doctor from the trial has given me a letter, but I'm pretty mad to be honest. Hopefully the letter will do the trick by the time comes to travel, or they will have amended the app so vaccine trials can go in there.

I would guess that this also means that our letters wouldn’t be accepted as proof if any of us from the rest of the UK wanted to attend an event in Scotland?

(Although those of us from Greater Manchester aren’t currently allowed into Scotland anyway, what with us being unclean….)

gazzaconns · 28/06/2021 10:14

What happens if our trial data finds its way onto the app showing that we have had an unapproved vaccine, would it then be too late to get an approved vaccine and for it to show in the app? We can’t assume other countries would accept our Mickey Mouse jabs can we?

I’ve been wondering this. I’m hoping it could be superseded by new vaccine but who knows.

@valnevavaxx
That is pretty shitty although if the letter definitely says you had Az you should be ok. On novavax trial we have all def had novavax if still blinded- we just don’t know if we had it in autumn or spring as we had 4 jabs.

@QueenOfThorns
Yeah possibly. However it’s not true that you can’t currently visit scotland from gm. Only applies so Manchester borough, Salford and Bolton. And some other places. DH had to go to scotland this weekend (essential travel) so we had to check. There are actually a very long list of exceptions so he was covered anyway. Is ridiculous though given how high the rates in parts of Scotland.

I also just got my trial letter explaining I've been double vaxxed in a trial and that I should have the same rights as anyone else who has been double vaxxed. Hopefully that plus my AZ letter will be enough when I come to travel!

Lwoj · 29/06/2021 10:15

More texts of NHS asking me to go for first jab, no letter received to confirm status here yet either. I’m glad I’m not going abroad I couldn’t deal with the stress! Thought I was doing a good thing, didn’t for a minute think we would be disadvantaged for helping others get vaccinated.

Monkeygirl68 · 29/06/2021 13:57

Not got a letter here either, but it has been mentioned in the House of Commons today by Grant Shapps for those people on a vaccine trial.

Lwoj · 29/06/2021 14:11

Oh what did he say?

Monkeygirl68 · 29/06/2021 14:25

Travel to be phased, but for those who haven’t been vaccinated or who are on a trial, it needs to be addressed. There also may be problems for those who have had AZ and entry into USA.

Argh. Think I'm just going to get jabbed and be done with it.

Frazzled2207 · 29/06/2021 20:54

anyone else from Stockport not got their letter? (cross face)

I see what Shapps said as a positive development tbh. That sorting us (and others) out is one of the barriers to implementing the policy. That surely makes it all the more important to sort us out.

That being said, I think another thing is that the government is just not at all keen for us to go abroad at all this summer. But many countries won't have us anyway. Imagine if they said tomorrow that this policy would apply for amber countries but then the next day all those amber countries said they didn't want us. BAD OPTICS. Makes sense tbh to delay everyone for a bit.
(doesn't excuse the general lack of clarity for us though)

Keep saying this but think am giving until next week for some kind of update then going down to the moderna walk in .

No letter for me either, and no request for my NHS number.

I'm exhausted by it all now. Some of our flights to the US have been cancelled today because of the Stobart Air situation (we were going via Dublin) and it feels like it's unravelling already.

Can we go together @Frazzled2207 ? I can't possibly be vaccinated without you in the same room 🤣

QueenOfThorns · 29/06/2021 22:24

No letter, no request for NHS number. I’m going to the next Moderna walk in that pops up.

Frazzled2207 · 29/06/2021 22:27

@andadietcoke I'll let you know when I'm going!!
Sorry about the flights. I hear the US situation is on hold partly because they won't accept AZ which is ridiculous.

I have however had an request for the NHS number (last friday, I think)

it is exhausting, that said I think it's the same for anyone wanting to go abroad in the next few months. I feel relatively lucky. I have lots of friends in Australia who are just totally stuck indefinitely. And others with family just in Europe who can't see their mums/daughters etc without an almighty faff.
