Yet more chat about novavax, (un)blinding, general vaccine passport stress, approval (please please please) and more.
Those involved in other vaccine trials also welcome.

I do wonder though. If we go down the normal vaccination route, and in the meantime the app suddenly works, will it be able to cope with the fact that we’ve had two vaccines. Or might it just keel over not knowing what to do.

My interpretation of what Grant Shapps said is that the app isn’t going to work. He lumped us in with people who can’t have a vaccine for medical reasons. I don’t think he would have done that if there was going to be a easy fix in the near future Sad

Dreamer1989 · 29/06/2021 23:30

@QueenOfThorns i suspect you are right, which is so anxiety making - I really wish Id never stepped up to help test Novavax. I did have a whinge to one of the trial administrators last week, lovely as she was, I feel like she was reading from a carefully prepared script

QueenOfThorns · 30/06/2021 11:35

Oh, I’ve just seen that the Moderna clinic in Hazel Grove is on every day! @Frazzled2207 and @andadietcoke are you planning to get unblinded first, to find out when you had the active vaccine, or just go for it?

Frazzled2207 · 30/06/2021 11:38

I’m thinking I may do as if it was last autumn is an easier decision. Mind you harder if I had it in April

Well, BBC news has stated that for travel to Malta, the NHS is not accepted! You need to produce a NHS COVID pass letter as proof of vaccination status! (By calling 119). Has anybody tried ringing to see what they say, as your GP records should demonstrate you e had a vaccine?

Monkeygirl68 · 30/06/2021 12:53

D’oh…..fast fingers….NHS app not accepted for travel to Malta, certificate via 119 needed!

Frazzled2207 · 30/06/2021 14:47

I don't think anywhere is officially taking the NHS app yet because it's not yet officially ready to be used (in part due to concerns about people like us but also the exempted, including children). It works for a lot of people but I'm not aware of any foreign countries accepting it yet. It should already work for entrance to certain events.

But no we can't go to malta, or iceland, or other places. We can go to Spain with a pcr test but who wants to pay for that!

Re. booster news.... if we had the vaccine in October / November, and don't fall in to one of the groups (over 50s, HCPs, CEV) then what?

JustMeAndWheatley · 30/06/2021 18:24

The booster news is worrying me. Officially I’ve not had doses 1 or 2 so how can I be offered a booster?!

Monkeygirl68 · 30/06/2021 19:22

Same here…..particularly as I fall in the over 50’s group and it will be from September

BG2015 · 30/06/2021 20:20

My travel plans are now on hold as I've found out today I've got breast cancer!

I'd got an NHS jab booked for Saturday but no point now.

MrsHamlet · 30/06/2021 21:05

@BG2015 oh gosh...so very sorry to hear that. Hope you're on a speedy pathway x

Cookerhood · 30/06/2021 21:23

Interesting that the JVCI are now saying the over 50s will have a booster in the autumn. On ComCov2 we are all over 55 so I guess they will have to unblind us all & it will mess up their study as we are supposed to remain blinded until next February.

QueenOfThorns · 30/06/2021 22:16

All UK participants should have a letter by 30 June? So they’ve let us down once again Sad

Sorry to hear your news BG2015 Flowers

Frazzled2207 · 01/07/2021 07:58

@BG2015
Oh no that’s utterly rubbish news. Hope they sort out a treatment plan for you ASAP. A friend was diagnosed in November and is totally clear now and putting it behind her. She was really impressed with how well she was looked after. Hope you have a similar experience.

@BG2015 I'm so sorry to hear your news. My friend wrote an incredible book on managing breast cancer and things to ask - she was an onco plastic surgeon who went on to have recurrent breast cancer and it's really insightful. She's gone on holiday today but when she's back if you have any questions (maybe when you have a treatment plan) happy to ask for you. This is the book: The Complete Guide to Breast Cancer: How to Feel Empowered and Take Control https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1785041878/ref=cmswwrcppapiglttfabcT60PB61S8DJ698RRJ4SE

Woventabby · 01/07/2021 10:39

@BG2015 Wishing you a speedy treatment and full recovery.

QueenOfThorns · 01/07/2021 10:52

If anyone is interested, the manuscript is finally out today, and can be read here: www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2107659?query=featured_home

I’ve just finished reading it - it did answer some of the questions I had, like why they didn’t really seem that interested in adverse events unless they were serious (there was a group who had to fill in a side effects diary after each jab, so they got the info on the routine ones from them). And my single solitary adverse event of injection site tenderness after jab 2 does strongly suggest that I had the real thing last year, it was far more common with vaccine than placebo!

BG2015 · 01/07/2021 12:31

@andadietcoke thanks I will look it up

BG2015 · 01/07/2021 12:31

Thanks 🙏🏻 everyone

Frazzled2207 · 01/07/2021 16:21

this is interesting. There does seem to be some UK - EU cooperations going on with a view to opening tourism for vaccinated Brits in late July or early August.

Key phrase
"Under a mutual recognition arrangement, all EU countries would recognise the NHS app as a vaccine certificate, while the UK would recognise the EU’s digital green card."
You'd hope that our status comes up in the discussion.
I remain (hopelessly?) optimistic that if we show up on the app, and we have been told we will by the end of July, then hopefully the EU will basically approve entry to us. And if it's clear by the end of July that in fact they won't, then it is all a big con and if anyone is still left they should probably go and get an approved vaccine.

Frazzled2207 · 01/07/2021 16:23

meanwhile things with the US look a lot more complicated sadly @andadietcoke
I don't think they'll let any of us in until they choose to let in those with AZ, as crazy as it sounds (that's tens of millions of people!). And novavax could be further behind. I can't believe that the US hasn't got any kind of digitalised system in the works.

A friend of mine has just travelled to her holiday home in France, the only thing they were interested in was the PCR test, so it seems even those who have had an approved vaccine are not getting better treatment or freedom Confused
