Yet more chat about novavax, (un)blinding, general vaccine passport stress, approval (please please please) and more.
Those involved in other vaccine trials also welcome.

Well, was planning to visit the Isle of Man when the borders open, but they have strict protocols for entry including proof of vaccination. Do you think our A4 ‘certificate’ will suffice, seeing as I haven’t received a vaccination proof letter yet (and not expecting one any time soon, the way things are going!!)

@Monkeygirl68
Unfortunately someone on the Facebook ground had the wrong answer when she contacted IoM immigration but that was a while ago so things might have changed.
That said I think IoM are pretty much their own jurisdiction-
Unlikely to pay attention to what JVT says

I think I'm pretty much decided I'm going to get Pfizer. Unless we get some kind of reference to being vaccinated in the travel section of the app when it goes live then i'm done. The US is expected to go on the green list in the next few weeks and / or there will be a US / UK travel corridor later this summer. I can't be the reason we can't go in October.

BG2015 · 23/06/2021 21:19

I've just booked an NHS vaccine. It's not until next weekend so I may cancel.

I'm done with Novavax. I'll never volunteer for a trial again.

Am heading in that direction possibly. Do you think we should let the trial doc know? I’m just thinking that IF he was supportive (no idea if he would be) I’d be a lot less worried.

@Frazzled2207 I've just had a chat with DH. I could get vaccinated today in Hazel Grove if I wanted (it looks like they're doing them in pharmacies now).

My plan is to see what happens with the app at the beginning of July. If we get something in 'event trials' and nothing in 'travel' (I'm hypothesising but the language of the letter suggests this might be the case) then it's a clear case of being disadvantaged. I'm also not keen on the 'exemption' vs 'vaccinated' status but I can live with it.

In terms of trial - I will get unblinded and check that I did have the vaccination in October, and explain about travel to the US in October and concerns around attempting to travel without an approved vaccination and no supporting evidence in the app.

andadietcoke · 24/06/2021 07:46

And am newly worried about Disney. Both my mum's and my sister's vaccination evidence have been accepted. Nothing for me.

I live near the hg one! They are doing Moderna (I went and asked)

@andadietcoke
the hazel grove civic centre is advertising walk ins for all over 18s TODAY (am hoping it might extend into next week but not clear).
So bloody tempted as is 10m walk away what's stopping me is husband is going away for a few days and I don't think I can solo parent and be ill at the same time.

OP posts:
andadietcoke · 24/06/2021 10:50

@Frazzled2207 I'm really tempted to head down and have a chat with them and see what they say and what they would tell me to do if I was wholly truthful about the situation.

Frazzled2207 · 24/06/2021 10:52

If you go let me know and report back!

OP posts:
Frazzled2207 · 24/06/2021 10:53

And best of luck, hope they are supportive. I think I’m more inclined to just lie but would rather not.

I'm the same. I have visions of having some kind of reaction and having to confess to lying though! My plan is to not tell them my name etc but explain the situation and be honest about my concerns about not being able to travel etc, and see what they say. I really don't know what to do about contacting the trial though.
Frazzled2207 · 24/06/2021 11:13

I am so cross that I would be feeling “naughty” by going to get an approved vaccine but the truth is most rational people would either do the same or totally understand why we came to that decision. And I’d be surprised if dr Baxter wasn’t one or the other.

I've been dithering all week about whether to get an approved vaccine. Just been on the website to look at availability in my area, could probably have 1st dose this sunday, but it's a bit of a nightmare finding availability for the 2nd jab - presumably a lot of the mass centres will be reducing hours over the summer. My worry if I leave it longer then it's not going to be easy to book an appointment at all

Frazzled2207 · 24/06/2021 11:59

@starwarspyjamas
While that is true I believe that once the first doses have finished which could be in a fortnight there will be an increasing number of walk in clinics to “mop up” the remaining second doses. As demand will be much less given that it’s only second doses left. It’s happening all over greater Manchester right now for first and second doses. They are all advertising clearly what they have and you can make an appointment or walk in and in my dh’s experience they are not fussed about gap as long as it is 3 weeks plus

Thanks that helpful info. The letter which has arrived this morning doesn't fill me much confidence that this will resolved soon.

Am I the only one worried about having another vaccine on top of Novavax? I don't like the idea of lying to get a vaccine either, but my main worry is that it has been untested...

Me!……I don’t know what the health implications are of having another dose of vaccine, particularly when I’m pretty sure I had my ‘actual’ Novavax vaccine on my 3rd and 4th jabs!
Dreamer1989 · 24/06/2021 12:28

@Monkeygirl68 I think everyone who had the placebo just got saline, unless you are in a different trial to Novavax?

It's a concern but I'm fairly sure I had mine in October so I'm already 9 months post-vaccination. It wouldn't be unusual for me to have flu jabs 10 months apart and that's all I can compare it to. There are a lot of people on the fb groups who have had approved jabs on top of Novavax and I've not heard of one adverse event.

I took it to mean that she'd only had the active vaccine recently.

Vargas · 24/06/2021 12:46

I'm fairly sure mine was in the Autumn too, and I see what you mean re: boosters. I think I am going to give it another week or two and see if the situation has changed...

Yup me. ESP as I have no idea if I had novavax in autumn or spring. Hence I may ask to be unblinded and easier decision if autumn.
