AZ - second dose clots, figures have almost doubled. I don’t want my second dose.

I had my first dose of AZ without any hesitation.

Due my second one next Friday and I honestly don’t know what to do.

32 but high BMI so was offered the vaccine earlier than my age group.

I understand the risk is small, but I just don’t think I can mentally cope with the anxiety and I feel like the four weeks after the vaccine are going to be unbearable anxiety.

France are now offering an alternate second dose if your first dose was AZ.
How likely are UK to do this?

My blood thinning medication clinic at the hospital are advising if no reaction to first to go ahead and take the second.
I understand that an actual medical opinion seems to be less weighty than random scaremongering on the internet round here but for what it is worth that is the medical opinion.

Dishmatic · 21/05/2021 11:50

@Stitched77

Pretty sure that medication in itself doesn't turn salads into that amount of fat but ok. I won't argue with you.

Anyway, I was talking generally - not just about you. I saw quite a few larger people in Toby Cavery the other day. Maybe it was a day out for their rare medical illness group? Or maybe some habitually overeat. I don't know.

@Stitched77

God you’re a twat. A bigoted one at that.

@Stitched77 your comments are absolutely vile and seem to be based on a complete lack of both empathy and scientific understanding. I have reported and I hope they get deleted.

@Dishmatic - I know it's scary to think that the cases have doubled. But let's still keep it in perspective. 15 out of 9.9 million is 0.00015152% chance of having both jabs and getting a clot. Rounding up the figures, it's 1 in every 3 million people. That is incredibly tiny. I don't have the figures to hand but the figures from gettting covid are WAY higher, and the figures for general population are also way higher.

I'm a 39 year old morbidly obese woman who is also a scientist. Not in the field of vaccines, but I follow the science and stats around the vaccines and covid. I'm having my second AZ vaccine tomorrow without a worry. I hope that reassures you. There has been a lot of scaremongering, but when you look at cold hard facts, the evidence does not back up the amount of fear, not by a long chalk.

My worry, if I were to say I had one, would be to do with getting a different vaccine for my second dose. I would refuse that and wait for AZ, because that's the bit that hasn't been studied and proven safe and effective. As I'm due back into work next week having been on furlough and shielding, I'm very much hoping it all goes to plan tomorrow.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 21/05/2021 12:22

@Stitched77 are there any medications that can turn a colossal sneering bellend into a decent human being?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 21/05/2021 12:27

@knittingaddict just read the Snopes link. Bloody hell! Terrifying to think that someone with those beliefs once held such a position of authority.

It’s not just the az causing blood clots. The Pfizer does too. I lost a friend to a blood clot from the Pfizer jab 4 weeks ago. She was 35 and had 2 small kids. Got the jab as she was a nurse and it’s killed her. It’s been proven to be the vaccine too. No vaccine is safe but you take the risk of a blood clot or covid.

@CharlotteRose90

Sad to hear about your friend.

The specific clots caused by AZ have not yet been documented in those who have taken the Pfizer vaccine.

CharlotteRose90 · 21/05/2021 15:30

@manicwhatday yeah I agree with that. Theirs clots on both sides. It’s a scary thing but it’s whether you take the risk . I think once the Pfizer releases all their clots too people will stop just blaming the az vaccine.

User657849 · 21/05/2021 15:52

@CharlotteRose90, people should be made aware of this.

You don’t want someone that had Pfizer ignore the symptoms because they think it’s only the AZ that causes clots. (Even if they are different, they can also be serious)

Two doses needed to protect you best against the India variant

Sorry about your friend. It is amazing though - 41 people have died from blood clots associated with the vaccine from the 55.1% of the country jabbed and two people on this thread know someone. What are the odds...?

also acknowledging that your writing styles are quite similar

@BillyTodd
Just caught up with this thread.
( blame the gorgeous sunshine we’ve had)
And wondered if you cared to update us on your second shot.
I trust it went well.
That would be the best news.

@CharlotteRose90
I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. How devastating that must be for all concerned.
While I’m grateful to know far more people who have been jabbed and are well it doesn’t diminish the fact that I know several people that have been jabbed and now have serious health issues and if you are that person, it’s one person too many which is why there should be no coercion in the uptake of this vaccine.
No passports, no ostracising for people who have genuine concerns for their health .
It should be individual choice and that choice should be respected.

As @mercybooth said on another thread who is going to help you if something goes wrong, maybe not seriously wrong to trigger the help of the welfare state where you can apply for and hopefully receive esa and pip but enough to give you a health condition that you didn’t have previously and impacts on you wellbeing and quality of life.

This is why people must be allowed freedom to choose and if they say no, then that choice must be respected.

My dds friend , 6 weeks in is very ill. A single mum, and who is picking up the pieces..the very people she tried to protect. Her children and her parents.

Thank you. It’s been a tough time but we’ve got her name in the papers finally and filled out the yellow side effect card that’s all we can do sadly. I know for sure if she knew this was coming she would never have had it. I’ve only had 1 vaccine myself but I respect people’s decisions on what they want to do.

CharlotteRose90 · 06/06/2021 12:12

@HerdyGerdy sadly it’s just rather unlucky that 2 of us know people. There’s plenty more out there. We have my friends name out there and it’s been revealed it was the vaccine so all I can do is tell people to make a wise decision on it.

skyvv90 · 06/06/2021 12:24

@CharlotteRose90 "it's been proven to be the vaccine too" - oh, has it really! I don't believe they can establish cause and in effect that manner based on one individual! That's not how these links are proven. Nice try though.

Oh trust me it has. Same as every other person that’s got a blood clot from the vaccine. My friend had no health conditions and was fit as a fiddle. Please keep your opinion to yourself. We know it was the vaccine and it’s been proven I don’t need to explain to you.
