New thread as the MRHA report is out today.

Note this is not an anti vaccination thread.

Well I've just had my second AZ jab, I won't lie I was/am scared, interestingly before you are allowed in the car park you are told what jab it is, if I'd been told before my first one I would have declined it as the blood clots/lack of evidence had just started.
Hope I don't feel as bad as I did first time around, Dr who did the jab was very dismissive of my concerns.

Do you think they have been having people coming into the building, and then declining AZ, which is why they are informing people before the car park?

All the best, hope you have no side effects this time.

IndigoC · 25/05/2021 15:16

Hope all goes well for you @Whichjab 🤞

Good to hear they’re getting better at sign posting vaccine type.

MrsFezziwig · 25/05/2021 15:41

it might be impossible to move to Pfizer medically once you have 2 doses of AZ in your system.

Do you have evidence of this? Only that I had read (and possibly misunderstood!) the opposite, that it would be inadvisable to have more than two doses of an adenovirus type vaccine as the efficacy really drops.

penni00 · 25/05/2021 16:45

@MrsFezziwig

Sorry to mislead, no I was just wondering. Regarding the efficacy of more than two doses of adenovirus type of vaccine dropping, I am not sure. My understanding is that your body wouldn't keep responding to too many jabs in a row if it was the same adenovirus in each vaccine.
Regarding the AZ they could get around this I would have thought by changing the adenovirus further down the line to a different virus.
Sir John Bell, AZ developer, in a interview with Canada , see below, refers to a third AZ vaccine dose claiming that to be more effective than Pfizer.
It is an interesting video, where he also speaks very negatively about mixing vaccines.

penni00 · 25/05/2021 17:14

So much conflicting info about side effects re mixing vaccines out there though........

Schulte · 25/05/2021 17:16

Hoping for no side effects for you @Whichjab

DatingDickheads · 26/05/2021 09:15

@Grellbunt I’m mid 40s had have yet to receive an appointment for my first vaccine (Scotland) extremely concerned that it’s going to be AZ and I won’t get another option!

Grellbunt · 26/05/2021 09:39

Well yes, that's the position I am in.
I'm just waiting it out.
But I am sick with worry.

Rainbowsandstorms · 26/05/2021 09:59

@Whichjab I hope it all goes well and the next few weeks fly by for you.

DatingDickheads · 26/05/2021 10:32

@Grellbunt not sure how we know what we will be offered? Just turn up and see? Unless the helpline can say.

TulipVictory · 26/05/2021 12:00

My 2nd AZ is tomorrow and I'm in two minds to cancel. Does anyone think the guidelines will likely change soon in regard to having a different vaccine for second or AZ being banned altogether ?

If this is the case, I'd rather cancel & wait

MiaRoma · 26/05/2021 13:17

May I ask for some advice? I had the AZ beginning of March and have had lots of bad reactions. The Doc has said I can have the Pfizer as my second but I feel so poorly with the reactions that I don't want a vaccine until I feel better. If I go over the 12 weeks do i have to start again? Or do I just wait til the autumn and have the top up as a Pfizer?

Kathy2020 · 26/05/2021 13:50

@MiaRoma I don’t think you’d have to start again.
I’m in Ireland. I got my 1st AZ dose in the 2nd week of Feb and still waiting for my 2nd dose as NIAC changed the 2nd dose schedule to 16weeks instead of 12 weeks but have now backtracked to 12weeks so waiting on the call to complete my vaccination

MiaRoma · 26/05/2021 14:33

Thanks @Kathy2020, thats interesting.

penni00 · 26/05/2021 14:53

@Kathy2020
That is handy info for me too. In Ireland, are they giving any indication on how long one dose of AZ is estimated to keep being effective against Covid?

Kathy2020 · 26/05/2021 14:59

@penni00 I think studies have shown effectiveness up until 16weeks. I’m not sure if there have/ had been any studies for effectiveness from 1 dose after the 16weeks mark

penni00 · 26/05/2021 15:02

Thank you, are you allowed to have a Pfizer following AZ in Ireland?

Kathy2020 · 26/05/2021 15:12

They aren’t giving out different doses and advising anyone under 50 who has had the 1st dose of AZ to continue with their 2nd dose
They had advised those with medical conditions to take the 2nd dose at 12 weeks and those without medical conditions at 16weeks.
This advise has changed and is advised for everyone to go back to 12 weeks between doses

Grellbunt · 26/05/2021 15:53

They won't tell you beforehand

So you have to just turn up

It's difficult

NotSoLongGoodbye · 26/05/2021 16:59

@DatingDickheads
I rang the helpline in Scotland and spoke to someone extremely helpful and understanding. They don't know what vaccines are going to be where because it depends on supply. I was told to turn up, see what was on offer and decide then. At any point I could ring back the helpline and rebook - they said there may be issues with trying to do this online. There was absolutely no judgement from the person on the helpline. I went to my appointment and I was lucky - pfizer for me - yet 2 days before they had been doing AZ. I had thought that because it was a smaller centre I would have no chance of Pfizer but I was wrong

misskatamari · 26/05/2021 19:47

Oh goodness, this thread has gotten me worried now. I 37 and had my first dose of AZ 16th March and am due my second next Tuesday, and now freaking out a bit. So hard not to worry when there doesn't seem to be much clear information about all of this

AppleJane · 26/05/2021 20:10

@misskatamari try not to stress too much. The data is released every Thursday so we might get a better understanding tomorrow about second doses Smile

ICanSmellSummerComing · 27/05/2021 07:52

I'm due my second AZ as well I'm nervous.
I feel like I got away with it first time around and won't be so lucky second time around.

TulipVictory · 27/05/2021 08:59

I've cancelled my appointment today but there are still two free appointments this afternoon so am in two minds
