New thread as the MRHA report is out today.

Note this is not an anti vaccination thread.

There was a good article on this in the FT too, a snippet:

Marschalek believes there is a straight forward “way out” if the vaccine developers can modify thegene sequence that codes forthe spike protein to prevent it splitting apart.

J&J had already contacted Marschalek’s lab to ask for guidance and was looking at ways to adapt its vaccine to prevent splicing, he said.

Theinstructions for thespike protein in the J&J shotwerealready less prone to “splicing” than theinstructions for the spike proteinin the AstraZeneca jab, making the reaction less common, according to Marschalek. In the US, eight of the 7.4m recipients of the J&J shot have reported the rare reaction.

Today’s MHRA report is out.

23 new cases (2 in second doses), 2 deaths.

Worth noting that there were more new cases listed under the 50-59 bracket (7) and almost as many in the 60-69 bracket (5) as in the 40-49 bracket (6) which suggests to me there is a very long lag at play between vaccination and being formally reported. Most of the cases in the 40-49 bracket still to come, I fear.

TulipVictory · 27/05/2021 13:44

@IndigoC where do I find this report ? Thankyou

Schulte · 27/05/2021 13:47

www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine-adverse-reactions/coronavirus-vaccine-summary-of-yellow-card-reporting

But weirdly, comparing to last week’s report, some numbers have gone down rather than up. Last week it said 8 deaths in the 40-49 age bracket, this week it’s 7? That’s not the only discrepancy. Perhaps they went over the data again?

Total incidence after 1st dose is now 13 in 1 million.

You’re right, must be revisions to the data.
IndigoC · 27/05/2021 13:59

Also worth noting that this report incorporates just 300,000 new first doses (but 1.7 million second doses). Overall risk is now roughly 1 in 77,000 across all age groups.

Swimbikerunmummy · 27/05/2021 14:15

I’ve just come to A&E, after my AZ vaccine on Saturday, today i’ve got a pin prick rash of red spots all over my chest and stomach.

penni00 · 27/05/2021 14:15

Were Norway saying it is more like 1 in 20,000.00 a while back in their country, before they stopped using it?
It may have been 1 in 25,000.00.
However, we seem to be getting a little nearer to their figure as time goes by.

Rainbowsandstorms · 27/05/2021 14:31

@Swimbikerunmummy I hope you’re seen soon and everything is ok Flowers

The same happened last week the deaths in the 30 to 39 bracket reduced to 8 from 9 the previous week. I think you’re right about the lag with reporting. I’ve just been saying to my husband that I think it’ll take quite a while to establish the true risk re second doses. I was really hoping the picture would be much clearer by the time my second dose is due in mid June.
Rainbowsandstorms · 27/05/2021 14:36

Also is anyone aware which other countries are onto second doses of AZ and if so has anyone seen any data re VITT from these counties?

TulipVictory · 27/05/2021 15:44

@Swimbikerunmummy hope you're okay

GentlemanJackie · 27/05/2021 17:06

Thanks for the update @IndigoC

Hope you’re ok @Swimbikerunmummy

My Dh has a tip off on getting spare Pfizer tonight but neither of us are well. How well do you have to be? I’m visibly too ill and also have a slight temp but he’s thinking of going. Dh has raised glands still but he did a pcr earlier in the week and it was negative so it’s not covid!

I hope that you're doing OK and it turns out to be nothing to worry about
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9626483/BBC-radio-presenter-died-suffering-blood-clots-following-jab-family-says.html
It was on our local news a couple of days ago that she had “passed away following a short illness” .. no mention that it was from a blood clot. Heartbreaking for her family and other’s families when it could have been prevented.

I’m 46 and just get more and more worried about having it. I’m allergic to penicillin so don’t think I can have the Pfizer. Also have a family history of autoimmune disease which puts me at risk of other adverse reactions from vaccines but also possibly from covid itself. Just really don’t know what to do.

lceniWarrior · 27/05/2021 20:14

@Swimbikerunmummy I hope all is OK.

AppleJane · 27/05/2021 20:18

Any news @Swimbikerunmummy? Hope you're okay, thinking of you Thanks

QueenStromba · 27/05/2021 20:22

@Lakes74 - they dropped the recommendation not to have Pfizer if you have a penicillin allergy.

Swimbikerunmummy · 27/05/2021 20:29

Hi all, I had a blood test to check platelets and they were ok, so the doctors weren’t especially concerned. Might be a standard immune reaction given I have autoimmune issues.
Am hyper alert now though, and if it gets worse I’ll go straight back.
My head isn’t too bad, just feels like a tension headache.

AppleJane · 27/05/2021 21:00

@Swimbikerunmummy good to hear! I don't want to alarm you but I'm sure I read that platelet levels didn't always drop immediately in all cases so if you get any further symptoms please don't let them fob you off, go back if you need to Thanks

Lakes74 · 27/05/2021 22:01
@Lakes74 - they dropped the recommendation not to have Pfizer if you have a penicillin allergy.
I thought they did but I’ve heard of people the past week where they have been turned away if penicillin allergy so not sure now.

penni00 · 27/05/2021 22:13

@Lakes74

Look at the Green Book, Chapter 14a - 7/5/2021 (UK)
'Anaphylaxis following COVID-19 vaccination A very small number of individuals have experienced anaphylaxis when vaccinated with the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine. Following close national surveillance, the MHRA is no longeradvising that individuals with a history of anaphylaxis to any vaccine, medicine or food do not get the vaccine. Anyone with a previous history of allergic reactions to the ingredients of the vaccine should not receive it, but those with any other allergies (such as a food or penicillin allergy) can have the vaccine. '

Schulte · 27/05/2021 22:20

@Swimbikerunmummy glad you got checked out, hope the rash and headache disappear and you can relax!
