Re my post above: Up to one in ten thousand is a significant risk bearing in mind the seriousness of the condition, I would have refused my first dose had I been told these numbers. I think many people would have.

CrappyBirthday2Me · 30/06/2021 12:19

@Nofriend

Hi all I’m still here lurking first AZ jan not had second yet. Been offered Pfizer but still unsure about mixing and that it’s been so long since my first. The only thing swaying me towards it is frat of being tested like a 3”2nd tier citizen of I’m not double jabbed with all these stories about double vaccinated not having to isolate etc
I fully intend to follow any protocol for the 'double vaccinated' in terms of isolation. It's not my fault I was given a potentially lethal jab that I shouldn't have been given if they'd looked at the evidence properly and fast enough and - in so much as I can control - I refuse to be punished for it.

@Olliphant

Very interesting...the nurse told me 1 in a million chance of a clot...
I see the 1 in a million figure trotted out a lot.
Rainbowsandstorms · 30/06/2021 14:36
I see that the figures of the rare blood clots are reading as below- re the gov site - AZ package leaflet : Information for the recipient

'Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people)

Following widespread use of the vaccine there have been extremely rare reports of blood clots in combination with low level of blood platelets. When these blood clots do occur, they may be in unusual or atypical locations (e.g. brain, liver, bowel, spleen).'

www.gov.uk/government/publications/regulatory-approval-of-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca/information-for-uk-recipients-on-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca
Just for clarification incase anyone read the above as I initially did, very rare doesn’t mean that it’s a 1 in 10,000 chance thank goodness. Here’s a link explaining how they classify side effects and what very rare means www.sussexpartnership.nhs.uk/sites/default/files/documents/side-effects_pil_-_updated_jul_20_3.pdf

It’s still far higher than many of are comfortable with but not as high as 1 in 10,000. I panicked when I read it that the rate had increased again.

I’m really upset to see that the leaflet was updated on the 25th June yet I was given the previous version at my second dose vaccination appointment on the 27th June. I was well aware of the risks and only read the leaflet this morning, as I couldn’t cope with reading it before my vaccination but the one I was given classified it as an event where it was hard to know the incidence rate which is awful as the rate has been quantified as over 1 in 50,000 for under 50s for sometime by the NHS. Lots of people are still relatively unaware of the level of risk so how can people give informed consent when the patient information leaflet they are given isn’t up to date!

Four weeks today since I had my second jab. This was the day I could relax but then they extended it to forty two, so another two weeks.
Still I am feeling happy that a month has gone.

Rainbowsandstorms · 30/06/2021 14:55

@SirVixofVixHall yay four weeks is a huge milestone and that’s the one I’m focusing on. I believe anything past four weeks is very rare but was added to avoid clots being ruled out due to the timeline. How have you found the past four weeks? I’m only at three days 😭. I was doing ok but I’m starting to wobble. I get a lot of headaches and I’m hyper aware of every twinge. I’m also aware that many of my headaches are stress induced too. It’s going to be a long four weeks.

PlantWitch · 30/06/2021 14:59

@Rainbowsandstorms I only had mine on Saturday. I've recently been diagnosed with MS so I felt like I did need to get my second jab but having a bit of a panic about it all now

Rainbowsandstorms · 30/06/2021 15:55

@PlantWitch sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It’s a bit nerve wracking isn’t it. We live in an area with fairly high cases and I have two children in school / preschool so I decided to get mine as my GP wouldn’t allow me to mix,

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/06/2021 16:04

Is that a recent thing? I'm sure I was told 28 days, although I must admit I was in such a state because of my needle phobia that I wasn't taking anything in properly!
penni00 · 30/06/2021 17:15

Nice to see you back Rainbows, congrats on getting your second dose - you seem to be doing well :) I feel relieved for you.
You couldn't keep away for long, lol

Rainbowsandstorms · 30/06/2021 17:19

Aw thank you @penni00 I really should stay away 🤦‍♀️. Need to resist the urge to check tomorrow report, as it’s too late now. Doing ok thanks but feeling a bit nervy. Trying to stay busy. Hope you’re ok.

Rainbowsandstorms · 30/06/2021 17:25

@PinkSparklyPussyCat it’s a fairly recent thing. I think Beverly Hunt explains it properly on her twitter account. Cases between 28 and 42 days are extremely rare and are thought to be clots that formed before the 28 day mark but don’t mobilise until after. My understanding was that they extended the at risk period so that the condition is still considered up to the 42 day mark so any very rare cases are appropriately diagnosed and treated. I hope that makes sense. I’ll still breathe a huge sigh of relief if all is ok at 28 days.

MiniMaxi · 30/06/2021 20:49

Hope you’re doing ok!

Rainbowsandstorms · 30/06/2021 21:49

Thank you @MiniMaxi doing ok thank you. No real side effects so far just trying to keep the anxiety in check. Love Island and Ben and Jerries seems to be going to trick. How are you doing?

penni00 · 30/06/2021 22:50

You made me laugh about the Ben and Jerry's, that is what I keep turning to every time I start fretting over Covid vaccines. It is my comfort food. Daily comfort food!!!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/06/2021 23:01

Thanks for that @Rainbowsandstorms, it does make sense. Surprisingly for me I’m not that worried about it but I will be glad when I’m passed the 42 day mark!

Rainbowsandstorms · 01/07/2021 10:37

@penni00 can’t beat Ben and Jerries! @PinkSparklyPussyCat that’s good. I’m feeling a bit more chilled today.

Rainbowsandstorms · 01/07/2021 10:38

Jerry’s even!

MiniMaxi · 01/07/2021 12:41

Haha sounds like a good combo!

I am four weeks today, hooray! Will be keeping fingers crossed for the next couple anyway. It went surprisingly quickly so hopefully it does for you too.

Tootsey11 · 01/07/2021 12:50

What is the actual risk or rate? Nothing seems clear.

IndigoC · 01/07/2021 13:44

@Tootsey11

What is the actual risk or rate? Nothing seems clear.
It’s currently 20.1 per million in 18-49s per today’s update (so 1 in 50,000) and 10.8 per million in over 50s. These are just the cases they’ve detected — it’s notable that the Australian MHRA equivalent has the risk for 40 somethings as 1 in 20,000 (off a small sample).

Second dose risk is currently reported as 1.6 per million doses.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine-adverse-reactions/coronavirus-vaccine-summary-of-yellow-card-reporting

Jabbinell · 01/07/2021 14:34

Today’s data states re 2nd AZ doses copied & pasted below-

“the data shows that there is a lower reported incidence rate in younger adult age groups following the second dose compared to the older groups (0.7 per million doses in those aged 18-49 years compared to 1.4 per million doses in those aged 50 years and over”

Rainbowsandstorms · 01/07/2021 17:00

@MiniMaxi yay I bet that’s a huge relief! I’m glad it’s gone by quickly. It feels a bit better this time round as I went into it with my eyes wide open where as with my first dose everything changed significantly just after I’d had it.
