New thread as the MRHA report is out today.

Note this is not an anti vaccination thread.

Yup I just did that pregnancy trick a PP mentioned earlier upthread to find a centre offering alternatives - and all first doses are Pfizer! Stoke Mandeville stadium if anyone can get there :-)

GentlemanJackie · 23/05/2021 20:20

This will sound mad but can my dh try ticking the pregnancy button or is it only there for women?? He’s been trying to book non AZ

lceniWarrior · 23/05/2021 20:31

I no longer have the pregnancy choise. Is that because I've had Pfizer so it would only show me those?

@GentlemanJackie If you enter your details you should get the pregnancy option and find out the centres near you, husband then just needs to use that postcode to book that centre!
GentlemanJackie · 23/05/2021 20:42

Ok will do that. I can’t take time off this month so haven’t even tried booking yet.

Whichjab · 23/05/2021 20:48

I've been completely floored by a non corona but corona like illness- I've had a negative PCR test and only just beginning to feel a bit more human. Anyway knowing this would you still go ahead with second AZ dose on Tuesday, still so on the fence about having it Anyway.

It asks for men too!

If you’re under 40 it doesn’t ask.

It also may not ask if it knows you need Pfizer for a second but not too sure.

GarnishSmith · 23/05/2021 20:55

@Rainbowsandstorms

For those still trying to get to the bottom of what’s happening with second doses and had been following Beverly Hunt’s tweets. Professor Michael Markis a haematologist who is working really hard to gain some clarity around this issue has just tweeted with a little more clarity regarding not yet having seen any convincing VITT cases after second doses. It seems it’s being looked at very closely but is too early to draw any real conclusions.
OMG, charge your phone! Grin
IndigoC · 23/05/2021 21:28

@DixonD Really?? 😂

GentlemanJackie · 23/05/2021 21:52

@DixonD great I’ll tell him thanks!

penni00 · 23/05/2021 22:07

I am wondering if you want to move from AZ to Pfizer in the future, whether if it does become allowed whether it could turn out to be only be for those who have had one dose of AZ?
I mean

  1. the gov might allow those who have not gone on to get their second AZ doses to have Pfizer. The gov want all people fully vaccinated and there might be enough supply for this.
  2. it might be impossible to move to Pfizer medically once you have 2 doses of AZ in your system.
NotSoLongGoodbye · 24/05/2021 19:46

My issue is that we possibly don't know if there is an actual age risk factor for blood clots after AZ or whether they were just missed in the older population. I doubt they were looking out for blood clots following vaccination in the 50+ range and given that there is a higher incidence of clots in older people anyway makes this harder to establish a link. I also suspect it would be hard to do a retrospective study given that the relevant information has probably not been recorded.

AppleJane · 24/05/2021 20:45

I agree @NotSoLongGoodbye and with older people, who may already have lots of ache, pains and 'funny turns' they might not have even known themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out many people had suffered mild strokes etc.

Roonerspismed · 24/05/2021 20:49

apple I have heard so many of these stories in older cases that it’s actually alarming. Don’t think any have been reported. It wouldn’t surprise me if that issues are just as high or higher in older people but just being missed

Willyoujustbequiet · 24/05/2021 21:25

Blood clots are as prevalent with Pfizer and Moderna as they are with AZ according to a recent study by Oxford University. Has anyone else read that?

It would appear the alternatives are just as risky.

The MHRA disagrees with you. It’s a 1 in 81,000 chance of developing VITT with AZ and rapidly falling. Essentially zero with Pfizer.

If anyone 40+ wanting Pfizer is near west London, the Compass Centre at Heathrow is doing walk ins as well as appointments. My DH (40) had his appointment there on Friday just gone and everyone there was getting Pfizer.

TulipVictory · 24/05/2021 21:38

I'm 29, 2nd dose booked for Thursday I'm in two minds to cancel especially reading the news 😐

It's not me you need to disagree with it's the articles appearing quoting the Oxford (Uni not Az) study. Rather concerning.

Could you post the study, maybe? As you can see from the MHRA data above, it isn’t born out by real world numbers. Unless they mean standard clotting or thrombocytopenia, which is typically milder and as you can see again from above is still 6x more prevalent with AZ.

I don’t know about that... surely the countries who stopped giving AZ to younger age groups were extra vigilant to cases among older people?

This appears to be the article that the papers were referring to.

It's not even about blood clots after vaccination.
