New thread as the MRHA report is out today.

Note this is not an anti vaccination thread.

Thank you @Whichjab! These threads have been so helpful!

@jenthehen do you know anyone in their 30s who hasn’t booked yet and could log on to the national site and tell you their options?

MiniMaxi · 20/05/2021 10:39

Thanks @Whichjab!

Schulte · 20/05/2021 10:46

Thanks @Whichjab - I lost the other thread!

Hello everyone! Another Thursday. Last week's data went up to 5th May. Does anyone wonder if the figures could have been affected in any way by the bank holiday? A bit like the covid stats can be?

AppleJane · 20/05/2021 11:06

Well done @Bunbury952 in getting pfizer! Smile

Report is out...

Overall rate is now 12.3 per million (1 in 81,000) and the number of incidents after second dose has nearly doubled to 15

Fatality rate slightly down at 18%

What was the rate before?

Jesus Christ, not good info re: second doses
Schulte · 20/05/2021 12:18

I think previous fatality rate was 20%.

IndigoC · 20/05/2021 12:20

That’s 47 new cases and 5 new deaths, I think. Only good news is they seem to be doing a better job of treating it.

40-49 year olds really were thrown to the wolves.

lcenii · 20/05/2021 12:21

What are the other outcomes other than deaths? Full recovery?

IndigoC · 20/05/2021 12:24

Only an additional 600K first doses too. I know it doesn’t quite work out due to reporting lag but 600,000/47= 1 in 12,765 risk.

Second doses overall rate is 1 in 600,000.

MiniMaxi · 20/05/2021 12:34

Yes fatality rate was about 20% before.

No, @whataballbag, not good news is it? I was feeling more confident in going ahead with it but really not now. Feeling even more pissed off about all my peers now getting Pfizer.

Re second dose incident rate I think we have to assume it’s 15 out of however many people were jabbed 3 weeks ago, which from memory is about 4m (so 1 in 260k approx). But that will mostly have been older people so may yet play out differently.

MiniMaxi · 20/05/2021 12:34

@lcenii no info I don’t think about what else happened to people

Schulte · 20/05/2021 12:34

7 new deaths, no?

25 new cases in the 40-49 age group, in just one week.

AppleJane · 20/05/2021 12:38

So they're getting better at preventing deaths but we still need to know what long term health prospect looks like for survivors. 2nd dose almost doubling and average age falling doesn't look good.

AppleJane · 20/05/2021 12:39

I'm still wondering if the bank holiday could have delayed some reporting.

Sassanacs · 20/05/2021 12:41

I'm so glad I found this thread, I don't know what to do. I've just turned 39 and I have my first jab booked for this Sat.

I absolutely want to be vaccinated but I really don't want to have the AZ vaccine. I've done some research but still don't feel reassured about AZ.

I've been trying to find out what vaccine is being offered - I've tried my GP for advice, the surgery where I'm due to have the jab and also tried 119 who signposted back to my GP!!

My real Q is around if I do refuse it on the day on the basis that I'm offered AZ or nothing, how do I go about sourcing and booking an alternative?

I'm feeling shoehorned into this as no one seems to be able to tell me (or wants to tell me) my options.

I've had COVID (back in March/April 20) with no serious complications but still continue to experience a few long-COVID symptoms. My health has been pretty poor compared to my previously healthy track record and I just worry that I'm not in the best shape to fight off any complications from AZ.

Help Confused

I think as predicted the second jab is proving just as risky as the first.

The MHRA and the government need to be doing something about this really.

IndigoC · 20/05/2021 12:44

@Schulte

I think it’s 17 new cases in the 40-49 group. 46 last week, 63 this week. I don’t have a screenshot for deaths last week, so not 100% sure on that one.
lcenii · 20/05/2021 12:46

I'd be interested to know what the longterm outcomes are following a non death from a blood clot. Not sure where to look.

nordica · 20/05/2021 12:46

Sassanacs do you know anyone locally who's had their jab at the same place you're going to? I did a fair of research on Twitter and MN to find out where I had the best chance of getting the jab I wanted (which was Moderna in my case) and booked there. If you booked through the booking website then technically it should only show non-AZ options to under 40s so it should be Pfizer or Moderna. Even smaller venues are now arranging Pfizer deliveries.

IndigoC · 20/05/2021 12:48

@whataballbag

I don’t think so. Lots of people under 50 have had their second shot, people in group 4 (CEV) and some in group 6 (CV) as well as healthcare professionals. We’ll see but I still think it’s going to be a significantly lower risk.
