What is going on in Bolton?

Over 300/100,000 rate now, and still rising. This surely can't just be the Indian variant can it? Nowhere else seems to be this high and 86 counties now have the variant. Will the government do a local lockdown? surely they can't let people meet inside when cases are so high there?

Lockdown Bolton, get the troops on the streets and tell people to stay the fuck home. Thoroughly sick of this, it needs ending.

DumplingsAndStew · 19/05/2021 08:35

@countrygirl99

5 buses a day is standard in some places.

Is the real problem with the booking system? That people cannot book a vaccine slot that suits them time-wise?

KaySam · 19/05/2021 08:36

It is now but it wasn’t always the case,2 -3 months ago we were offered Burnley. Now we can go to ESSA or Quebec street.

Nohomemadecandles · 19/05/2021 08:36

It's interesting how the judgy see things.

If the government tell you that you can't do something then you should absolutely not do it under any circumstances. Comply.

If the government tell you that you can do something then you should apply your common sense and not do it. Confused

Our vaccination centre is only 2 miles away but may as well have been on the moon for how accessible it was via public transport for people who can't walk or drive.

No, don't put the troops on the streets. Because the troops that will be sent to Bolton aren't vaccinated, and won't be provided with the proper PPE and will likely be away from their families for weeks on end. The 'troops' haven't been necessary yet so let's not cause panic for no reason
Livelovebehappy · 19/05/2021 08:43

Local lockdown needed in Bolton. And heavy police presence to fine anyone breaking lockdown rules. A selfish minority having an impact on the lives and income of the majority. Time to get tough.

It's never pay people to stay the fuck home, is it? Just tell them to, and if they can't, fuck them.

Oh my god can you wannabe fascists just wind your necks in and stop wanking over the thought of the army patrolling the streets - I'm sure there's porn for that sort of thing if you're that desperate.

Are you from Nazi Germany or Mussolini’s Italy?
KaySam · 19/05/2021 09:08

Must have been bad luck for us,I eventually got lever chambers ,husband got middlebrook another family ended up going to Burnley.
Probably depending on when we logged on to get the appintment.

It’s a nightmare here now though,we are being blamed for the virus yet I’ve heard some people won’t take the tests incase they’re positive and have to be off work and can’t afford to.

Livelovebehappy · 19/05/2021 09:09

cutiebear rather that than the alternative. Which to some people would be to let the people of Bolton go about their lives as normal, visiting other area and countries, and pushing us back into national lockdown.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/05/2021 09:10

You can remove the Nazi and Mussolini bits there. Germany are doing this now.

Australia are doing the same. Are the Nazis too?

I know I'm just keeping everything crossed schools don't close .

Years and years of neglect, underfunding, poor public transport, dense housing (built to house those working in mills)....oh and an incompetant shit shower in charge of the country.

email Matt Hancock....that'll work.

Tal45 · 19/05/2021 09:12

I think it's ridiculous one side putting all blame on the government for not shutting borders and the other side putting all blame on the ethnic minorities who refused vaccination/came back from India via Turkey to avoid hotel quarantine/people not following the rules. Both sets are to blame, the government need to set sensible rules and people need to take some personal responsibility and consider the possible impact of their actions on others.

IrmaFayLear · 19/05/2021 09:13

I can’t see any solution. Those who spread won’t get vaccinated. Even when vaccine vans roam the streets people refuse, so it’s not a case of not being able to get to a centre, it’s a simple No.

That is people’s right, and if that person is a lone wolf who stays at home mostly and limits social interaction then it wouldn’t be so much of a problem. The trouble is when vaccine refusers also live a “spreading” life and seem oblivious or ambivalent about serious illness or risk of death.

There was daily calls on here last year to get the Army on the streets to force people to stay in their homes and keep order.
Frazzled2207 · 19/05/2021 09:17

@TheAlphaandtheOmega

The vaccination set up does seem to be more conjusive for the middle classes. Book on the internet, maybe travel some miles to your appointment which is not on a direct bus route, free jab but pay a fortune to get to it in some cases and lose time off work. Lots of people on here say, oh just get public transport or a taxi to a jab miles away. Just take a whole day off work and spend a fortune getting there.
I think this is a good point. I'm in a different borough of greater manchester and there are no vaccines available locally at all. The GP hubs have officially stopped other than second doses now for the 50+. We had to travel 10 miles, and public transport round here is really poor. We have a car and work flexibly so it was ok for us to get vaccinated but I can definitely easily imagine a scenario where (tens of) thousands just can't do that.

That all being said, overall vaccination rates in Bolton are about the national average so I'm not sure it's enormously relevant in this case.

These are the places that are turning to the Tories in their droves though (Hartlepool most recently).
Missfelipe · 19/05/2021 09:19

Hmmm, I know of few people in Bolton who won’t travel a couple of miles for their vaccine but you best believe they will find their way out of the borough in a lockdown so they can go and socialise...
