The weather is crap

We are being primed for a screeching halt to the roadmap

Lovely sunny foreign holidays off the agenda for the foreseeable

We got through a long, hard winter for this ? So fed up.

Bonnie, you get idiots in life wherever you go about anything. Don’t take it personally.

The “Bolton passed away and we are back in lockdown” made me laugh out loud! It shouldn’t be funny but the over dramatics of it, really ring true with mumsnet and our government 🤣

Alonim · 17/05/2021 21:31

I’m not terrified by this new variant.

I never took any notice of their road map.

I don’t listen to the government spouting its crap and lies. Just get on with life and what’s possible day to day. That way my hopes never lift and there’s never any disappointment.

Strangely I feel really content. It’s liberating.

battenburgwithtea · 17/05/2021 21:37

These last few weeks when cases have been really low we've been locked up when we could have been out making the most of it, and now we can go out there's this new variant. Government has fucked up by letting it in the country, also by promising people today and 21st June which we've been holding out for and which now looks doubtful. We've waited so patiently and now it's all going to crap again. Hard not to be upset, it's an ordeal really.

Siepie · 17/05/2021 21:40

The thing I want most is to see family. 8 month old DS hasn't met any relatives yet. Their country isn't allowing entry for non-essential reasons. With all the talk of variants, I'm worried that by the time they allow travel, the UK will have banned it again.

Watapalava · 17/05/2021 21:49

i don't care if people are vaccinated or not in theory

I do care if restrictions continue because of people who could have been vaccinated and refused

Im 44, genuinely don't give two hoots about covid but i was vaccinated because i know i 'could' possibly end up in hospital even though perfectly healthy plus i want to go on holiday.

Anyone in group 1-9 is selfish from a societal point of view as it costs nothing

whole world has been on lockdown to protect vulnerable groups - by not vaccinating you really are relying on others having vaccine to enable you to live freely.

Watapalava · 17/05/2021 21:51

I am massively pissed off that my 3 kids have to wear masks full time til 21st june because a load of idiots in Bolton didn't take the vaccine

  • that's the true reality. May not be their making but it's a consequence of their actions and yes most people in my part of lancs are fuming
newnortherner111 · 17/05/2021 22:23

I think the worst weather for May in living memory has a lot to do with mood.

AnyFucker · 17/05/2021 22:59

The last time we had a decent sunny day here in Gtr Manchester was 25th April

OP posts:
ssd · 17/05/2021 23:03

For some reason we are actually getting some sun here in Glasgow. Very unusual. Won't last of course.

ElizabethTudor · 17/05/2021 23:18

I also don’t actually want to sit inside yet. Just cos we technically can, doesn’t mean I want to. I would rather stay outside in the fresh air. It’s just unfortunate that that means it’s rainy and cold!!

PrincessNutNuts · 17/05/2021 23:57

For me this date was supposed to mean - it's getting safer, we're on our way out if this.

But I don't think either of those things are true right now.

KurtWilde · 18/05/2021 00:10

OP I'm not that far from you and I agree this weather hasn't helped morale at all. Autumn started last July and has been relentless ever since. A bit of sunshine would lift the doom and gloom, this constant rain and grey is just depressing.

Ostara212 · 18/05/2021 00:44

@BonnieDundee

People need to take the vaccine. Heard Lloyd Webber say they were selfish and I must say I agree. I am fed up of people saying they don’t want the vaccine because (insert reason). Very selfish behaviour.

I'm not having it. I have a reason but I'm not justifying it to strangers on the Internet. To my mind it's a good reason. Do you know how often I've been called "selfish"? No, neither do I. I've lost count. Honestly I've been trying to fight back but it's really getting me down now. I think the final straw was hearing that ALW has compared people like me to drink drivers. I am sick of being abused Sad

Maybe it's time for a break from MN

This thread really turned with posters saying that about selfishness.

You'd think a women's site would be more conscious of bodily autonomy.

I will have my vaccine when called but no one should be coerced. Am I terrible if I get flu and kill granny? I've not known anyone in my age group get that vaccine.

MercyBooth · 18/05/2021 01:00

@Franklin12 Lloyd Webber flew back to the UK a few years back to vote against raising tax credits for poor families. He is soooooooooo selfless and all about "community" A cunt who voted for individualism and now whines because the reckoning has to be paid.

@BonnieDundee It is no ones business but yours Flowers

unwuthering · 18/05/2021 01:35

Am I terrible if I get flu and kill granny?

Christ, what an ugly sentiment.

Watapalava · 18/05/2021 06:51

Mercy

It kind of is other peoples business though if in groups 1-9

We have been in lockdown for over a year to protect THEM

Now my kids in Lancs (case rate way below average (10/100,000) have to wear masks full time til June 21st because (quote form lancs PH coordinator) "rising hospitalisations in Bolton and Blackburn"

No doubt we will be on local lockdown soon like we have been all year because of those 2 areas.

So yes imo they are bloody selfish because their actions DO impact others

Mollylikestodance · 18/05/2021 06:56

It's the weather and the new variant.

But my view is make the most of it while you can!! We've already had a staycation on the coast and booked a couple more, enjoyed lots of eating out. Yesterday my DH and I had an impromptu lunch in a cafe just because we can - it was heaven just to eat indoors 😂. Tonight I'm having dinner out with a friend, and at the weekend will take the kids to soft play etc.

It's all strange getting used to one way systems and wearing masks to walk to the restaurant toilets - but we never know when it might change again so I hope we can all make the most of life while we can! x

U2HasTheEdge · 18/05/2021 07:26

It is still a bit shit, I agree.

I was happy when I could go clothes shopping and just spend time in the city. That turned out to be a chore really. Queues, masks and so on, took a lot of the fun out of it as it just wasn't normal. Planning to go out bloody days in advance is a chore, I want a bit of spontaneity.

Ultimately, I need sun. My favourite thing in the world is sitting in the sun reading. I feel like everything would be easier with some bloody sunny weather.

I have birthday plans for the week of the 21st as it is a big one. I just hope they can still happen. I was doing OK until that came under threat and the weather got bloody worse.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 18/05/2021 08:13

If there's a medical reason not to be vaccinated then fair enough. One of the reasons we need the majority to do this,Vis to protect those who genuinely can't.
But the state can't be forcing people - loss of bodily autonomy on this issue would set a precedent and be very dangerous going forward. With that in mind, the govt has to offer a choice of vaccine - AZ may have been irreparably damaged. The govt can't say it's safe for someone who is 41 but if you are 39 you now get something else. People are nervous about it and that has to be respected.
What is selfish is flying in from a country with high cases and the household not properly isolating. But it's human nature for people to not obey rules which is why the government should never have left this up to individuals but should have insisted on hotel quarantine with proper security.

icelollycraving · 18/05/2021 08:39

I don’t mind the rain. I’m not bothered about visiting pubs/restaurants etc, I’m an introvert. My sister runs a gastropub. She’s also feeling utterly stressed with people not complying with the Covid ‘rules’ and all the no shows. They’ve spent a bloody fortune on making things lovely but realistically who would have wanted to sit outside in the UK?! Hopefully hospitality will get some money in whilst they can.
I just have an odd sense of feeling overwhelmed. Work/home/expectations etc, I put a lot of pressure on myself as I’m an over thinker. Cried at the weekend at work as I’m struggling. About 10 days ago the city where I work seemed bustling, and almost back to normal. Now, it’s a bit of a ghost town again. A customer told me quite openly that they were off on holiday but returning via another country as they couldn’t do the fucking about coming home from the same place. People aren’t wearing masks. Everyone has had enough of it all now. It’s inevitable we’ll have another lockdown.

frozendaisy · 18/05/2021 09:06

We won't have another lockdown.

Once everyone has a chance to be vaccinated at least once the focus will return to the economy.

We have had over a year focussing on health, financially that's enough.

There will be social restrictions for a while but lockdown, no can't see it.

Arrowheart · 18/05/2021 09:12

I'm the same OP. My mood is flat and I have lost all oomph and zest. Hate it.

DollyParton2 · 18/05/2021 09:15

If you want a summer holiday you can have it. I’m sick of people moaning about this! If you’re still
Too scared and don’t want to travel again gone, but if you want to it’s more than possible.

ColouringPencils · 18/05/2021 10:23

I'm with you. Had started to feel cautiously optimistic and this weekend brought me back down. Felt a bit tearful for the first time in the whole pandemic. I think it is the shifting sands, we don't really know what to think or when it will end. And the weather.

MorrisZapp · 18/05/2021 10:26

@OhYouBadBadKitten

It does look at thought it may begin to dry out next week and towards June warm up to more seasonal temperatures.
Any hope of al fresco dining next week on my much anticipated trip to York? 🙏
