The weather is crap

We are being primed for a screeching halt to the roadmap

Lovely sunny foreign holidays off the agenda for the foreseeable

We got through a long, hard winter for this ? So fed up.

i am refusing to watch the news celebrating people going to the pub, when i am counting down til pay day!

rubydoobydoo · 17/05/2021 15:19

Nah it's great, we can go in the pub to stay dry! It would be much worse if it was all warm and sunny so we wouldn't need to to go indoors now we actually can! Grin

PrincessNutNuts · 17/05/2021 15:20

This was meant to be a great day.

Instead, our cavalier government has screwed it up for us - again,

And you can already see them trying to blame it on us.

Matt Hancock is even trying to blame people in hospital with B1617.2 covid who are eligible (now) but haven't had the vaccine - possibly because they hadn't been called yet, Or have been too ill to have it, or can't have it because of a medical condition or because they are too young, - but he's hoping you assume they are refuseniks and blame them and/or an ethnic community.

shinynewapple21 · 17/05/2021 15:29

Quite a few pubs near me have our up outdoor marquees, some with heaters in so you can feel fairly safe going out and meeting a friend if you wish but still stay warm and dry.

Obviously from today we can all do that inside , although it probably pays to be cautious . And at least we can meet friends / relatives in our homes now where we have the control to open windows (and turn up heat if it's cold).

I do agree though that the anticipatory feeling of summer coming and being able to go on holiday has gone a little flat .

NotBot · 17/05/2021 15:33

I’m having a great day. It’s my daughters birthday. We’ve been to softplay this morning, for an indoor lunch with family & the farm this afternoon. Tomorrow we are going to Alton Towers. This weekend we are going to a splash park with a few friends & meeting friends at softplay for a small ‘party’ .. we’ve all booked separately! Got a holiday in half term in a couple weeks, staying with family & meeting my new baby cousin ❤️ Today is a huge day, life feels normal 🙌🏼

savethegrannies · 17/05/2021 15:35

I'm off to my local at 6pm when I have finished work and plan to get absolutely wrecked and hug loads of strangers Grin

nixonten · 17/05/2021 15:40

@AnyFucker, sorry to hear it has all got to you, you have seemed so strong before.

We moved house 3 years ago. Middle of March it snowed but 6 weeks later we were in shorts and it lasted so long.
Last year I had hurt my back could not drive, garden well behind then lockdown.
Now it seems that wife and I have been wearing Winter Clothes since last September. Needing the heating on at lunchtime. Garden is way late
It is so TEDIOUS.

Mumsnut · 17/05/2021 16:27

This weekend has been the lowest point of the lockdown for me.

Terrible weather , terrible world news , the Indian variant casting g everything into doubt...

Had lunch and dinner booked indoors today; friend cancelled lunch because of a family bereavement. Dinner will go ahead but I feel so flat about it

oneglassandpuzzled · 17/05/2021 16:35

It’s a horrible Monday here too. Occasionally the sun comes out and I remember what May is like and why it’s normally all my favourite month.

I gave in and bought another waterproof pair of trousers. Not what my paltry summer-clothes budget was supposed to go on.

Ostara212 · 17/05/2021 16:38

Princess "but he's hoping you assume they are refuseniks and blame them and/or an ethnic community."

Being young and of Indian origin, I am worried about getting abuse.

LizzieW1969 · 17/05/2021 16:38

^This. Why did they delay too long in putting India on the red list? It was hardly difficult to anticipate that the Indian variant would end up here, was it?? Hmm

lightand · 17/05/2021 16:40

I agree, the date has gone rather flat.

But count your blessings.
Personally, when I am able to stop and think what I am grateful for, there is a huge list of things I would rather not have taken away thank you. The list is far longer than it seems at first glance.

User135644 · 17/05/2021 17:11

Was anyone that excited about May anyway? Being able to sit in a pub but with a list of do's and don'ts and any entertainment restricted.

June was always the main date anticipated. Pubs have just felt flat since last March even in the periods they were open.

AnyFucker · 17/05/2021 17:12

I want to stand at a bar again

And government ministers potentially dog whistling won't help, will it?

I really hope people engage their brains and start paying attention to how carefully worded some things are.

They seem basically designed for people to jump to wrong conclusions.

Here's hoping you don't have to deal with any mis-directed racism.

PrincessNutNuts · 17/05/2021 17:27

@AnyFucker

I want to stand at a bar again
Sitting on a bar stool with a drink still makes me feel all "Sex and the City-ish" Grin

I can't remember the last time I did it. 2019 probably.

MercyBooth · 17/05/2021 17:34

So Matt Hancock is trying to incite racial hatred.

@AnyFucker Flowers Its shit isnt it.

Onlinedilema · 17/05/2021 17:40

The weather is certainly not helping. This time last year I was wearing sandals and bare legs for work. I've put off buying more tights as I thought I would manage but it's not looking good. Hardly any of my garden is in flower.
I haven't bothered booking to eat outdoors before today as I really dislike sitting outside in the cold. I love the sunshine 🌞.
Have to make the most of it.

PrincessNutNuts · 17/05/2021 17:44

They didn't want to piss off Modi during trade negotiations and have to give away even more visa free travel - so they invited the Indian trade delegation here and didn't even ask them to quarantine.

Predictably some of them had covid.

Morfin · 17/05/2021 18:04

I think the weather is having a massive impact, its just like another massive cloud over us.

Last week I was feeling optimistic, but it feels like October again where you know worse is coming just not sure when.

I'm also feeling bleak about 2022 , although I know we aren't meant to mention that on here.

Spacecadetagain · 17/05/2021 18:15

I’m a real Debbie Downer this week - the light at the end of the tunnel has indeed turned out to be the glare of a Virgin High Speed train 🙄.
While everyone was enjoying the sun last year I spent the entire summer lying on the sofa a breathless mess after getting covid in March . Even walks were out of the question I was feeling so hopeful a month ago , I managed to book a cottage near my mum and grown up children who I hadn’t seen since before the pandemic (as they are 3 hours away) and my daughter got to spend her 11th birthday seeing my family (as per rules, outside etc) but it was so much nicer than last year and as we were lucky with the weather last month .. I was starting to feel happier .. I was feeling better as had been left with lots of issues inc myocarditis and feeling hopeful for this summer..... now I just feel utterly depressed again
.. and it won’t stop bloody raining ..

Davros · 17/05/2021 18:22

The weather doesn't matter when you can go inside restaurants and pubs.

Morfin · 17/05/2021 18:23

I did snort. I shall be using this. Sad Grin

BlowDryRat · 17/05/2021 18:26

My DS has asked me not to tell him about any fun activities or holidays coming up. He'd prefer not to get excited in case they get cancelled. He's 11 :( We've all had enough of the stupid rules.

Youngatheart00 · 17/05/2021 18:31

I feel totally flat too. This weather is absolutely miserable. We are told we can meet. But being strongly discouraged to do it, it seems. Press still very downbeat.

Some f2f work meetings coming back but now the challenges of hybrid work, where I’m somehow expected to be available for Zoom meetings 10 hours a day whilst also travelling and attending client meetings.

I feel very low indeed and quite stressed.
