The weather is crap

We are being primed for a screeching halt to the roadmap

Lovely sunny foreign holidays off the agenda for the foreseeable

We got through a long, hard winter for this ? So fed up.

Yep. I just had a massive cry - the biggest one I’ve had over this whole period Sad. It feels never ending. I was so looking forward to some normality but everything is still weird and we now have another variant to worry about.

PrincessNutNuts · 17/05/2021 18:40

@Morfin

I think the weather is having a massive impact, its just like another massive cloud over us.

Last week I was feeling optimistic, but it feels like October again where you know worse is coming just not sure when.

I'm also feeling bleak about 2022 , although I know we aren't meant to mention that on here.

I'm the same. My 2022 optimism evaporated once I accepted that our government are never going to put in place effective border controls and quarantine, or fit for purpose test trace and isolate.

And wherever the next "worst variant yet" comes from, our government will just let it in and give it a good few weeks to get its feet under the table before they do anything about it. And then they'll do the wrong thing. And ignore SAGE.

And with all this spread in India is bound to throw up some new mutations.

I know, I know. I even depress myself. WinkBut reality is what it is.

Watapalava · 17/05/2021 18:43

feels good here really apart from masks still being forced in school

holidays are on OP so not sure why you say travel is off? im going end of the month. Not that difficult to sort and i'm planning another in July.

No reason to think the Indian variant will be an issue - even sage this morning said it wasn't a time to panic and that the vaccines would work (i know how much mumsnet love sage!)

I don't forsee any more lockdowns and even if June 21st doesn't happen, holidays still be on which is my priority currently

bumblingbovine49 · 17/05/2021 18:48

@OhYouBadBadKitten

It does look at thought it may begin to dry out next week and towards June warm up to more seasonal temperatures.
Yes. Then we can look forward to the endless moaning threads about the heat.

In a way though I am even looking forward to the "I melt / can't breathe in temperatures over 21 Deg " thread that usually bring out the ConfusedHmm from me, because it will mean we are getting back to normal Grin

But I digress - re the op, yes the weather really is depressing me at the moment . I keep remembering how lovely the weather was this time last year and getting even more fed up. Not to mention the lack of sunlight stunting my tomatoesSad

Handsnotwands · 17/05/2021 18:49

A friend and I have booked the day off work tomorrow. We’ve got breakfast, lunch and dinner booked in different places. We’re damn well going to have fun. It’s my 5th day off since lockdown began including Christmas and Easter(s)

Also, May often is shit weather wise. It’s my birthday month so I always remember. It rains more than it’s sunny.

AnyFucker · 17/05/2021 18:49

Foreign Holidays are not “on” as far as I am concerned

Too many things to go pear shaped with the hoops you currently have to jump through. So even if I thought it was a reasonable idea to fly in and out of the UK for non-essential reasons (I don’t) I am not putting myself through the stress .

I am still waiting to undertake my much anticipated retirement holiday travel but after 3 cancellations now I just cannot be arsed to get my hopes up.

I got shouted at today for drinking a coffee outside a cafe by an older woman saying I'm 'causing lockdowns by going outside'. So yes, it's gone very flat.

bumblingbovine49 · 17/05/2021 18:54

@AnyFucker

I want to stand at a bar again
Actually there I disagree but then I always loathed standing at bars. I always prefer sitting in a pub . I do however really want to go to the theatre and cinema again but without having to wear a mask etc.
Mathshelpme · 17/05/2021 18:56

@LadyCatStark

It’s 100% the weather that’s causing everyone to feel like this. Oh and the whole go out but don’t go out, hug your loved ones but don’t get too close rubbish!
I couldn’t give a shit about hugging loved ones...just give me some fecking sunshine! Even better, let me go on my holiday.
Mathshelpme · 17/05/2021 18:59

@AnyFucker

I have turned into such a fucking moaner. I am sick of myself.
Oh that’s nothing. I’ve turned into a defiant twat. I’m not following anymore goddamn rules.
Franklin12 · 17/05/2021 19:02

People need to take the vaccine. Heard Lloyd Webber say they were selfish and I must say I agree. I am fed up of people saying they don’t want the vaccine because (insert reason). Very selfish behaviour.

Franklin12 · 17/05/2021 19:04

And the endless rain. Someone said on another thread that you need to be resilient and take the right waterproof clothes. Pathetic!

PrincessNutNuts · 17/05/2021 19:08

As soon as the sun comes out it's all going to go bananas isn't it?

siestalady · 17/05/2021 19:10

Let's hope so eh?
AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/05/2021 19:29

But it is true, you just need the right clothes, no such thing as wrong weather, in any case, you can go inside now! Shake it off

Mathshelpme · 17/05/2021 19:45

No, there definitely is the wrong weather. Cold and rain...detest it. Won’t go out in it. Don’t care how appropriately dressed I am. When I get up in the morning, I shower, apply full makeup, blow-dry my hair and have no intention of going out to get soaked or traipse around in mud to come home looking like a scruff.
PrincessNutNuts · 17/05/2021 19:47

@siestalady

The sooner it does go bananas, the sooner renowned "lockdown lovers" will get their "wish".

You're right. We should stay locked down so that we can outwit the "lockdown lovers"

Januaryissodull · 17/05/2021 20:22

I hear you.

Also feeling rather flat.

The weather isn't helping. Have spent the last 5 months the making the best of things in all weathers and just getting on with it. This weather is depressing for May.

Also feeling like we are a still, long way from life as it used to be if we ever get there.

Sick and tired of the crumbs of normality and the constant threat of yet another lockdown hanging over us like a big gloomy cloud.

Call me selfish but I want complete freedom back.

This is what I did today:

I went to a lovely little local museum. We were the second visitors on their first day open for 14 months. They were very pleased to see us and I learned a couple of really interesting things that I didn’t know before today.

Then we went to a cafe. I sat at a table rather than on a bench and I had a latte in a proper mug rather than a takeaway cup. And we were warm and dry. I might have had a toasted tea cake too.

Then we went to a gift shop and spent too much money on a lovely picture which is now on my wall at home.

Small pleasures. I value them more having been deprived of them for a little while.

PicsInRed · 17/05/2021 20:34

These comments remind me not personally, you understand of post WWI, when the populace across Europe so utterly lost faith in their "social betters" to make reasonable decisions on their behalf that massive social change was immediately required in order to avert total unrest.

I presume similar is on the horizon here and now.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/05/2021 20:37

Why are you worried about rain? You're allowed indoors now.

I don't get the 'long anticipated' thing at all. It was always 'if' things happened as they wanted them to happen.

Agree that the weather is a downer at the moment though. Hopefully we'll be moaning about heat in a few weeks.

rhubarb84 · 17/05/2021 20:40

Well, I live in Glasgow. We haven't been allowed to meet in homes since the start of September... and still aren't. Play date arranged for this week cancelled. Visiting grandparents cancelled. Summer holidays looking more and more at risk. Totally fed up.

BonnieDundee · 17/05/2021 20:53

I'm not having it. I have a reason but I'm not justifying it to strangers on the Internet. To my mind it's a good reason. Do you know how often I've been called "selfish"? No, neither do I. I've lost count. Honestly I've been trying to fight back but it's really getting me down now. I think the final straw was hearing that ALW has compared people like me to drink drivers. I am sick of being abused Sad

Maybe it's time for a break from MN
