The weather is crap

We are being primed for a screeching halt to the roadmap

Lovely sunny foreign holidays off the agenda for the foreseeable

We got through a long, hard winter for this ? So fed up.

Agreed. Call me picky but I don't want to go to the Falklands for my holidays Grin
I went out for dinner Friday night - it was grim. Basically paid £60 to eat dinner on a park bench. No effort made by the restaurant to make their beer garden pretty or warm. Ordered and paid on an app and the waitress delivered at arms length and made me feel like a leper. We have very low transmission rates where I live so Hmm
Am going for a big family meal tonight though - indoors thankfully.
The rain and the rise of the Indian variant has definitely taken the shine off things though.

Morgan12 · 17/05/2021 11:01

It's because the new variant I think.

Personally I'm just going to make the most of it while I can. Take the kids swimming before it closes again etc.

We have a staycation booked in England at the start of July and I'm just hoping things don't close before then.

Morgan12 · 17/05/2021 11:02

@BIWI ah that's lovely. Merry Christmas!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 17/05/2021 11:03

And I've gone vegetarian, which has fucked up my diet and my mood!

Unicornish · 17/05/2021 11:04

I feel the same. Am fucking sick of trudging about in the rain. Now it feels like it's only a matter of time before they slam everything shut again. WHEN will this be over??

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 17/05/2021 11:04

We are also having Christmas next weekend. I'm really looking forward to it. It will be the first time we've all been together in over a year due to mum and grandad shielding

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 17/05/2021 11:05

@RaininSummer

Most people are at work anyway so I doubt the impact will be seem until the weekend.
And then the weather is going to be really shit, big low coming over for Friday and Saturday. We are going to Cromer in our caravan this week and next and it looks a bit shit though it does perk up from Sunday onwards, still cold though. Sorry to post this not very good weather news.
MoreAloneTime · 17/05/2021 11:08

I had a really bad moment when we were supposed to eat a meal at an outdoor attraction and the idiots didn't even open the large umbrellas over the tables when it was pissing down. Ended up getting it as take out and eating in the car. It just puts me off even trying new covid safe things as its always a disappointment.

AnyFucker · 17/05/2021 11:12

Merry Xmas @BIWI

BIWI · 17/05/2021 11:13

I can't understand venues that aren't making an effort to keep their customers warm and dry! After the terrible time hospitality has had, you would have thought they'd be begging us to eat/drink with them, and doing everything they can to make it comfortable.

clary · 17/05/2021 11:20

So sorry you are feeling like this @AnyFucker. I'm so fed up too - sometimes it's little things - I really struggled to get mu washing dry at the weekend, kept running out into a hailstorm to fetch it in.

Yes no one died and we are all healthy and well fed here, but it still gets you down when it is mid May and sooooo cold! There are big things weighing on my atm but somehow if it is sunny it's easier to feel cheerful. I bought some new shoes for summer as I was needing them a few weeks ago when it was brighter...

Flowers for everyone

Fifthtimelucky · 17/05/2021 11:21

The weather is less relevant I think I because we can now meet inside again.

I'm definitely optimistic. I've had my first class at the gym this morning and have more booked this week. I will also be meeting different friends inside tomorrow, Thursday and Friday.

I'm retired though, so not having to fit things around work which I know makes a huge difference.

ssd · 17/05/2021 11:23

It must be costing hospitality a fortune keeping up with this though.
Everything does feel grim.

Triffid1 · 17/05/2021 11:24

Yup, me too. It feels like if we embrace the new rules, we're probably all just going to land up in isolation again. And I'm particularly angry because right from the start, the government's approach to international travel was so ridiculous and lax and then, shock horror, we keep getting virulent new strains.

I have to admit though that I don't know anyone who has actually stopped people coming into their house over the last few weeks. Everyone I know is sticking to very small groups - one other family/ a play date etc - but it's happening everywhere because the weather has just been so shit.

Peridot1 · 17/05/2021 11:33

The weather has sooo much to answer for. It’s grim.

It was my birthday on Saturday and all I wanted was to go over to the pub for lunch in the garden and have lunch and a glass of wine. It rained. All day. Bar half an hour over lunch time but of course everywhere was sodden.

Sorry you are feeling so fed up AnyFucker. You are not alone!

Enjoy your Christmas BIWI!

Bluesheep8 · 17/05/2021 11:35

Most people are at work anyway so I doubt the impact will be seem until the weekend.

This. No difference for me until the weekend.

SpindleWhorl · 17/05/2021 11:41

Shitting weather.

notalwaysalondoner · 17/05/2021 11:43

I'm going to eat out as much as possible while I can. I'm expecting my first baby in July and will be pretty devastated if restrictions continue as it was all looking so positive, I thought I'd timed it so luckily in terms of actually being able to do NCT coffee, baby groups etc.

There had just better be some serious evidence we still need these restrictions in spite of the vaccine. If hospitalisations aren't putting the NHS delivery at risk I don't support them.

FreyaFolkvangr · 17/05/2021 11:57

It's so shit isn't it?

I'm booking an impromptu flight to Greece, Portugal or Croatia, I haven't decided yet. Just for a couple of nights (at time point in time, I'd pay for one day there, tbh) but I know even a few days away will help a lot. I had a few days in an Airbnb the other day and it worked wonders. It rained but not non-stop and the sunny moments did feel like a holiday.

Just do what you can for now to recharge. I am going to go to the cinema too because I think many will be too scared to go so they'll be pretty empty. I don't care about the pub but will go and sit outside one sometime.

And thank you for all the hours in ICU, must have been so tough.

WhySoSensitive · 17/05/2021 12:03

We have just got ready to go out for a walk, about fifteen steps from the house and the heavens opened.
I didn’t even wanna sit in a cafe, I just wanted some nice May weather 😂

SpindleWhorl · 17/05/2021 12:03

Echoing what @FreyaFolkvangr said - thank you, @AnyFucker. I remember you writing about your long and gruelling shifts at the start of the pandemic.

I hope you get a decent break soon.

Florelei · 17/05/2021 12:17

I’m so done with all of this nonsense. It’s utterly crazy to me how things seem worse this year despite us having a decent amount of natural herd immunity and nearly 70% of the adult population having had at least one jab.

A few weeks ago I was so optimistic about things getting back to normality for summer. But instead we now have another strain of this pissing virus to contend with. I’m also raging because I feel that this could have been better contained with stricter hotel quarantine being imposed earlier when it became apparent that there were problems in India.

Now I just feel like this year is another total write off. I see no point in going abroad to sit on a plane wearing a mask, walk around in the heat wearing a mask and potentially have to quarantine upon my return. I have a lovely holiday booked for October but doubt it’ll happen.

Also, there’s no opportunity to be spontaneous anymore. Everything worth doing has to be booked weeks in advance and planned like a military operation. Otherwise it’s a trudge about in the wind and rain.

This just is so shit @AnyFucker and I totally get it. I hope you feel a bit more positive soon.

Ostara212 · 17/05/2021 12:18

OP "We are being primed for a screeching halt to the roadmap"

Yes, I think this too.

I can only offer Flowers

loulouljh · 17/05/2021 12:20

It does feel flat..the scaremongering (because that is what it is) was inevitable. And there will be more between now and then. Lets hope for some sun at least!

Watercoloursky · 17/05/2021 12:24

Wishing all of you celebrating belated festivities a very May-rry Christmas!
