So angry at the Government this evening

I’m SO mad. I haven’t been on this board for months and I was feeling really optimistic about life feeling like it was returning to normal.
It is criminal that they have let this variant in. It’s literally ground hog day. Playing politics with public health to do trade deals (because of bloody Brexit) with India.
I know there is hope that the vaccines will do there jobs but we shouldn’t be in this position. This wasn’t inevitable. Arggh so cross

@ilovesooty, for eff's sake, why should anyone not mention it? As I said, closing the borders doesn't work unless the illegal crossings are being controlled as well. This is nothing to do with "bloody foreigners", if people think borders should be closed to stop the spread of covid, it should be done properly or it's not going to work.

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 21:45

"This is all getting a bit silly now"

Mn never ceases to amuse me.

ichundich · 14/05/2021 21:46

Exactly. We just cannot carry on like this forever. It's been 14 months; my kids have missed nearly a year of schooling. Even now they're missing out on their education because their school day has been shortened to allow for social distancing at dropoff and pickup times. This is a small village school with fewer than 150 pupils.

MmeLaraque · 14/05/2021 21:46

@Staffy1: There is no legal requirement for a refugee to claim asylum in any particular country. Point 4. You can read that far, yes?

Your ignorance is *your problem, not theirs.

www.amnesty.org.uk/truth-about-refugees#:~:text=There%20is%20no%20legal%20requirement,country%20in%20which%20they%20arrive.

ilovesooty · 14/05/2021 21:47

@Staffy1
Try reading up about the rights of refugees.

VaccineSticker · 14/05/2021 21:47

@MarshaBradyo my solution? I’ve already said it, but I will say it again as you don’t seem to read. We are an island: Lockdown the borders - quarantine any incoming traveller, get all land freight covid safe into this country.
We are a developed nation, an island, this should be doable with a bit of determination.

Staffy1 · 14/05/2021 21:47

@thefourbells, sorry to hear that. I'm sure that isn't the reason it's happening on a large scale now though.

MmeLaraque · 14/05/2021 21:48

Refugees are not illegal. HUman beings are not illegal. You a Farage/BNP supporter?

No that’s not a solution to the road freight issue. You do realise the countries you want to emulate, eg Aus don’t have this issue.

You have to think harder than ‘all land freight sage into this country’ whatever you mean by that.

ilovesooty · 14/05/2021 21:49

Thank you @MmeLaraque

I don't think I could have been arsed to inform someone under such ignorant I misapprehension.

Staffy1 · 14/05/2021 21:49

@ilovesooty, try following my point.

Thefourbells · 14/05/2021 21:49

No, I'm sure all these immigrants want to come here to access our second to none benefits system, dog shit encrusted pavements, drizzly weather and tediously self obsessed, inward looking citizens.

Doomsdayisstillcoming · 14/05/2021 21:50

I am so angry.

But what can you do? There’s no way I can directly tell them they are shitbags. I mean, I could have last week in the local elections, but Boris was doing so well back then.

MangosteenSoda · 14/05/2021 21:50

Imo at this stage there shouldn’t be variants here due to travel. I lived in East Asia for years and know loads of people there. Hotel quarantine from early on.

Our gov waited for almost a year to implement it and then have been shit at implementing it effectively.

ilovesooty · 14/05/2021 21:51
@ilovesooty, try following my point.
I have no respect whatever for your point, which is rooted in ignorance.
And that's giving you the benefit of the doubt.

This post literally makes no sense. Encrusted yet drizzle?

Slippery shit coated pavements I think you mean.

User135644 · 14/05/2021 21:52

@MmeLaraque

Would be good if they could stop all the illegal immigrants as well, but they have been coming over in their hundreds daily.

You mean refugees. They're not illegals. The right to asylum is enshrined in international law. Do, please stop reading the Daily Fail and its ilk.

From France?
Staffy1 · 14/05/2021 21:54

@MmeLaraque, @ilovesooty, I can't be arsed to argue with people who deliberately miss the point and try and twist things, just looking for an argument. Where did I say they weren't human? People who come into a country without coming through the legal channels are called illegal immigrants. I didn't make the term up. And as I keep saying, border control to prevent the spread of covid needs to include everyone or it doesn't work.

Thefourbells · 14/05/2021 21:54

This post literally makes no sense. Encrusted yet drizzle

Different months have different weather. Had hardly any rain last month. This month it's tipped it down almost every day. HTH, but I daresay not as you knew what my point was.

Have you thought of moving? Doesn’t sound like you like it much
Livelovebehappy · 14/05/2021 21:59

MmeLaraque please don’t be such a dumb arse. Obviously food supplies and meds can be allowed in. Deliveries dropped off at ports, then off they go back from where they came from. Deliveries/stock can be quarantined. But people should not be allowed to leave the country nor should they be allowed to enter, until this virus is under control. I can’t see why people are happy to think otherwise.

Thefourbells · 14/05/2021 21:59

Have you thought of moving? Doesn’t sound like you like it much

No I haven't, I was born here and my family are here.

I'm allowed to have an opinion on the country I'm a citizen of. Lots of Britain is great. Sadly lots of it is incredibly small minded and unable to look past itself, as this thread demonstrates.

Thefourbells · 14/05/2021 22:00

I do think it is very telling that, in a discussion about immigration when I have set out the history of my family, people are instead choosing to get defensive regarding my own opinion of the country I've lived in my entire life.

Kind of proves my point tbh.

Yep a lot is good

You can have an opinion but it sounds depressing to think so lowly of where you live. Up to you though.
