So angry at the Government this evening

I’m SO mad. I haven’t been on this board for months and I was feeling really optimistic about life feeling like it was returning to normal.
It is criminal that they have let this variant in. It’s literally ground hog day. Playing politics with public health to do trade deals (because of bloody Brexit) with India.
I know there is hope that the vaccines will do there jobs but we shouldn’t be in this position. This wasn’t inevitable. Arggh so cross

This is the thing. You say we need to be cautious about opening up and immediately get the hyperbole back: "you want to lock us in our houses for the next 50 years, this is just existing it isn't living".

Nope, just need a few weeks to make sure the variant does not evade vaccines.

mightyducks · 14/05/2021 22:17

I am also furious, furious that the Directors in public health who wrote to Matt Hancock in February, yes February, telling him if they didn’t prioritise vaccinations in areas of high risk, rates would surge again in those areas , furious that the border controls were so leaky literally hundreds and hundreds of families in Bolton and Blackburn went to Pakistan and India in January , returning home and bringing the variants with them , that should just never have been allowed. Furious that India went on the red list when it was far too late, due to cronyism between the 2 countries. Furious at the exact moment track and trace in local authorities were trying to contact cases coming back from India, the national system didn’t send the contact details through for weeks, so by the time it was received, the quarantine periods had already passed . Furious the independent Sage advice published today, recommending surge vaccinations in The areas with the high rates , has been ignored, again. I could go on ….the Government’s approach to international travel has been completely flawed and it’s people and communities that are now paying the price, the Government threatening local lockdowns when it’s their fault we’re in this position! Absolutely feel for the communities of Bolton and Blackburn, and all the children, sent home from school again this week, bubbles bursting all over the show, we all accept it was an unprecedented situation last year, but a year on the Government is still making the same mistakes, over and over again, they should all hand their heads in shame!

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 22:17

Marsha, you're hilarious. Keep at it.

GreyStep · 14/05/2021 22:18

Also paying to get out of quarantine early, or if you’re an MP you are too important to quarantine so go straight back to work.
Testing negative on a PCR 3 days travel before is bollocks. It’s the going through the airport and sitting on an enclosed plane that’s the risk as well, airborne coronavirus happily hangs around in the air for 30mins for the next person to walk through its cloud, then it’s also super happy on a plane. Yes the air is filtered, but you’re not wired into the filter, it still circulates between you and the next person before.

Rich people not having to quarantine and ending it early and not testing is a fucking joke.

Oh come on a link to SAGE

You can do it

Or are you making stuff up

User123456777 · 14/05/2021 22:18

I’m so worried now I feel like I need to quickly take my child everywhere we’re allowed to go before we lockdown again. Surely that’s what’s going to happen? It’s fucking ridiculous.

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 22:19

I pretty much tried explaining the same thing earlier. This place is not really for exchanging views ironically. It appears most can't read, comprehend or change their viewpoint.
MarshaBradyo · 14/05/2021 22:20

People are losing it

Talking about the scientists this and that

If you can’t link to an official statement from
SAGE, not the inferior version, you’re just making up sound bites in your head.

Blubellsarehere · 14/05/2021 22:20

I really want to travel again
Visit family and freinds abroad
Who doesn’t ?

But I do think it’s irresponsible to sanction foreign travel yet . Given how bloody awful it has been I don’t think it is a huge ask we brits only holiday in the uk this summer . Compare that to lockdown !

It isn’t a huge ask to avoid another lockdown .. surely to god

Holiday companies like easy jet are being irresponsible . I feel they are running before they can walk .. our government is is pandering to them

Borders need to remain closed

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 22:21

Marsha do you pretend to be obtuse? Who do thing is briefing boris? Are you not capable of joining any dots. Do you need everything spelled out letter by letter. Use your nouse girl.

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 22:21

Last time I looked the minutes of the sage meeting had not bee released. Why might that be??

onecandream · 14/05/2021 22:22

If it's "safe" enough for me to be in a classroom full of primary aged children and two other adults without social distancing or masks, then I deem it 'safe' enough to go to my friends house for lunch tomorrow.

He hasn’t briefed that earlier list though has he

Fgs you are such hard work it’s more unbearable than this bloody virus

Thefourbells · 14/05/2021 22:22

Here you are Marsha, from the decidedly anti lockdown daily mail www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9580159/SAGE-says-realistic-possibility-Indian-variant-lead-10-000-hospital-admissions-day.html

MarshaBradyo · 14/05/2021 22:22

Because you haven’t looked hard enough obviously
SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 22:23

Hopefully they will release the minutes soon and you can read all about it.

Thefourbells · 14/05/2021 22:23

I mean a quick Google brings up thousands of links so I suspect you are just being obtuse deliberately.

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 22:24

No because they hadn't been put on the gov website yet.

MmeLaraque · 14/05/2021 22:24

@Livelovebehappy

MmeLaraque please don’t be such a dumb arse. Obviously food supplies and meds can be allowed in. Deliveries dropped off at ports, then off they go back from where they came from. Deliveries/stock can be quarantined. But people should not be allowed to leave the country nor should they be allowed to enter, until this virus is under control. I can’t see why people are happy to think otherwise.
I'm no dumb arse. You perhaps are.

I read politics, language and international trade at university. I couldn't continue because I couldn't afford to. Some of my old friends are in French government now. Do continue... I can check with them how much of knob you are being, but I already know.

10,000 per day? Are they mental.

So they think we will admit 2.5x more than the peak in January? And in four days have more in Hospital than at peak in January?

If you are going to make such absurd modelling, then you completely discredit anything else you say.

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 22:27

I didnt actually realise the media had access to sage minutes now. I was waiting to read the official doc.

MmeLaraque · 14/05/2021 22:27

@onecandream

That's not safe. It hasn't been, and won't be. CV is airborne. You take that risk, you take everyone in that classroom, and everyone linked to it, with you.
SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 22:27

Thanks vera

Not reading it, but really? Confused

Why so off
